A nice dusi, drinking well now. Not port-like as others said, but it has a very fruity, spicy- sweetness to it. We had it w a hearty homemade beef bourgogne/stew and it was great w this also robust dish.

Zintastic! Smooth, rich, balanced. A little high on the alcohol (15.8) but you would never know from the taste. Very nice mature Ridge Zin. Big rich ripe nose, followed by smooth fruit, oak, silky tannins and long finish.

With Ribeye steak and roast carrots Dark garnet, touch of rust at the rim, no longer opaque. Nice nose, almost a touch of sweetness. Nice first hit on the palate, Zin pepper, some heat, blackberry, long finish. Still lively, but fully mature. Simile: Jeremy Brett's Sherlock Holmes (not Robert Downey's version), serious, a twinkle in his eye, and a bit non-conformist.

Baked and pruny, nose and flavor profile. Less than pleasant given the heritage of Dusi. I think there is just too much heat in this vineyard to make much other than high-alcohol, overripe monsters and I think I am going to stop buying Dusi's. Both Ridge and Turley Dusi's suffer from the malady of overripeness.

Nice dark purple, just aging at the rim. Nose is hardly there, just a hint of jaminess. Some faint American vanilla. Beautiful mouth feel, jammy yeah. A mature Zin that has lost that acid zing, the oak has mellowed and still has tannins and fruit to support. End of life? Few hours in, it is heading into a deep sweet fruit, almost can feel that port thing coming on. Drink up good stuff. Day II. Really went porty. Drink up asap. Mine was kept in perfect cellar conditions.

With Steak and Portobello mushrooms. Decanted, but only shortly before dinner. Very dark burgundy, almost opaque, and still. Cherry and blackberry on the nose, and some alchohol. Very big wine, dry but subdued tannins, blackberry and some bitter chocolate with Pepper. This is a frontal assault on teh palate. Not entirely balanced. Thisi is Brando in Streetcard - not for the faint of heart. Not entirely balanced.

Saturday at Lee and Lisa's for a shared BBQ - brought - opened and enjoyed the '06 Carmichael and Dusi. All enjoyed both with the Dusi presenting a greater floural component - lavendar (?) and the Carmichael peppery and complex - Ridge Zin and summer BBQs always a combo!

This bottle got "lost" in our cellar and now it's missing a lot of it's jamminess - too aged. Still a solid zin but with no spice or jam it's no longer 'to die for'. Played up really well to a spicy veggie lasagna and the lasagna brought out the fruit which made it nicer.

An initial scent of cherry and raspberry, followed by blackberry and currant. Very heady. Taste is cherry, dried fruits, currant with very, very restrained tannin. More "jam" and less "spice" than many Ridge Zins. Less spicy / alcohol punch than one would think given the 15.8% alc. Lovely.

Here is a Zinfandel that's proportionate, not obnoxiously jammy and rich to the point where the second glass becomes a chore to enjoy while being layered with a profusion of fruit and secondary aromatic complexities.
Rich core of currant, vanilla-cherry, dried fruit and black raspberry is threaded with cedary-oak, cracked-pepper and pencil shavings. Judiciously ripe and juicy, spicy and caressing, with a backing of dusty tannins and a beam of sweet cinnamon that dusts the flavors of bramble and plum.
I split this bottle over a two night period; the second night shared a similar profile but everything was a bit more tame. Bass notes of a toasted earthy-chocolate became apparent while the core of fruit took on a sliver of cassis.

Big, plum, prune and raisen. This is a 100% zinfandel and my least favorite of all of the Ridge Zins. I admit that I'm not a fan of zinfandel, but Draper usually blends them quite well. No blending here, unfortunately. 2 bottles left... hmmmmm. Gift time!!!!!

Medium-dark red color. Aromas of cherry preserves, cherry, blackberry, raspberry, and blueberry. On the palate, this shows better balance than the bottle in December 2009 with sweet, ripe berry fruit flavors, a fine tannin on the long finish, and a bit of dust. Great with turkey tacos.

Blackberry, blackberry, blackberry. Just dominates the nose and palate. Some tannin grip on the finish, but pretty smooth. No heat despite the 15%+ alcohol. Went well with burgers and grilled potatoes/onions.

Deep red color. Aromas of roasted fruit, berry pie filling, blueberry, strawberry, blackberry, and raspberry. On the palate, this shows a bit of raisining, but is dominated by a jammy blue/black berry fruit profile. Riper than past years' efforts and it shows in the flavors and the heat on the finish. Gritty tannins show up at the end. Will likely integrate with a year in the bottle, but the roasted/raisin notes will keep this from being a great Dusi in my book. Drink.

Tasted at winery- double-decanted and open for an hour. A great zin by our books. A faint raisiny-touch shows that the fruit might have been a bit overripe, but a smoothness and softness to it that we really enjoyed. Drink by 2012.

Among my current favorite Ridge releases, though it exhibits a jammy and sweeter, almost late-picked-flavor profile. The spicy zin characteristics seem to me to be a little muted in this wine, but the character is overall very bold and knocked my socks off rightout of the gate at the Ridge tasting event where we first sampled it. Fantastic by itself, this wine makes me want to savor it all night long in small-glass quantities. It's also excellent with savory dishes. We generally decant this one 1-2 hours before drinking, though it's approachable right away as well... the nuances of the fruit don't really show up until later, though.

Very good for what it is, a big jammy fruity Zin. If you don't like big fruity Zins you will not like this, if you do this will be your new favorite wine. Last years Dusi had more spice- this doesn't. A one dimensional wine and fruit be thy name. Nose: berry pie with some spice... taste: spice disappears into the black fruit with some red fruit. I said "fruit" a lot in this review. The alcohol is a little high in this wine and there is a slight cooked taste. Went alright with food, but on a cold rainy night like tonight this was awesome and hit the spot.

Wine 7 of Ridge Zinfandel Tasting: A big nose of thick jammy fruit with just a little cedar. Thickness on the palate. A bit more big fruit than the northerly wines. Warm tannins. Even though the alcohol is basically the same as the Sonoma & Napa Zins, it doesn't taste as fresh. It has more of a cooked fruit sense.
