Hugely enjoyable bottle. PNP. Strong saddle leather, animal, barnyard funk on the nose. Light, lithe and reasonably long on the palate. Supple and balanced. Drunk with cheese after GPL11 and showed more perky St Julien character. In a really good place right now.

Surprisingly ripe and appealing for the vintage while remaining classically styled. Cassis combined with strawberries and cherries on the nose, cut blackcurrant branches, mint. Fresh, cool, precise. The fruit gets a bit muddy on the palate, with a bit of a roasted character. But the balance is good, there’s decent density of flavour and length, and the finish is pleasantly persistent. At peak but no rush to drink.

Much better than expected (... for the vintage): A classically styled bordeaux. This 2007 vintage does not need much air at this point - so I do not recommend any decanting, just pop and drink. Right out off the bottle in the glass there are very nice aromas of automn leaves, old leather and some animalic notes. Very warm and cozy! (Reminded me of one of my very first Bordeaux experiences - a Malescot-St-Excupery 1981 I tasted in the year 1991). In the mouth smooth with molten tannins, but still enough strength, and again earthy, secondary notes. Better than 3 years ago! Will probably not get any better from now on, but still has some years ahead to give pleasure. Tasted first without food, later with venison - what a nice surprise! Tasted out of the opened bottle the next day, it still was good (but not as good as right out off the bottle the day before!)

Good colour; classic GL nose, wild/farmyardy, then cigar box; quite fleshy though scratchy tannins, mid-weight, fresh; pinched finish, fair length. This has plenty of time in hand. A success in the vintage.

Opened and decanted 1 hour. Served to accompany roast beef. Plummy red colour. Nose shows autumnal hedgerow fruit, surprisingly young as I'd expect this 2007 to be at maturity now. The palate is dry, rich showing dark berry fruit, charcoal, good length, nice earthiness. Good accompaniment to the beef. Perfectly mature now but would probably keep another 2 or 3 years.

Opened and decanted 90 minutes before drinking. Colour is medium burgundy. Nose and palate show good blackcurrant fruit levels. Well balanced and good length. Drinking very well at the moment, though I feel unlikely to improve any further, so drink up. Drunk to accompany beef wellington, in parallel with the 2001. My wife preferred this '07, but the other five at the table preferred the '01.

Opened and decanted 2 hours. The colour is light Burgundian, the nose shows dark berry fruits and I could have happily just breathed in the nose for an hour before tasting. On the palate, it's rich and earthy, in my view everything that a St Julien should be and it's at perfect maturity. It's long and held well in the glass for over an hour. Beautiful.

Medium bodied, with a strong, earthy, barnyard note that would be more at home in Chateauneuf du Pape, than in Bordeaux, you also find notes of tobacco and forest aromatics and some red fruits, this is ready to drink as most of the tannins are long gone. The lean finish is a bit clipped, so this is probably better suited for near term drinking, than for any further development.

Tasted at the Three Borders Wine Group, Hampshire, UK - tasting of Bordeaux wines - the second of two 2007 reds. Opened and decanted 2 hours before tasting. In our wine group, this was the star red of the night. The colour is starting to show some ageing. The nose is savoury, market garden aromas. On the palate, it's smooth with a lovely long finish of chocolate. We thought this was at its peak now.

This is one of the best wines I've drunk in recent months, though as a Bordeaux fan I had high expectations. This is a great vintage for drinking now. Opened and decanted 2 hours. Inky black appearance. The nose opens up to show beautiful vanilla with rich leather overtones. The palate has that great earthiness I enjoy so much with prominent orange and chocolate. Luckily I have four more bottles. I had to resist opening another bottle straight away!

An off vintage drinking very well. Currants, blackberries, walnut shell, and a hint of sweetness from the toasty oak. Classy and well developed, elegant rather than powerful, with nice heft, lovely texture, good length, and a dark fruit and earth profile. No hurry, this shows no sign of letting up.

Tasted blind and guessed off vintage late 90s (!!) Pauillac! Impressively well mannered and developed wine, very expressive, quite secondary in a way already and drinks just on the money. Has definitely evolved very nicely since a year ago when we had this (April 15 - Papies 90) and was just so given and enjoyable. Very good fruit , in balance and has an effortless pleasure giving side. Not the deepest or most layered wine but definitely made us smile. Well within its drinking window now and at a good price highly recommended. 91-92

A very nice surprise and definitely has evolved to a better wine since we came across it almost 3 years at during our visit to Gruaud Larose. We did not decant not did it feel ike it needed it tbh. Well open on the nose, classic cabernet sauvignon profile, with dark fruits, light pepper, leather at times. Even a few hints of an earthy profile. On the palate it felt veyr approachable, well round albeit the tannins are very much alive. Very enjoyable at this stage. We have very limited experience with 2007s so not sure how this stacks vs others and not sure how this evolves from here on. For sure we saw no worrying signs and we see this as having a decent life ahead of it. 90-91 for now.

A beautiful, regal and polished wine that really shows off the very best of St Julien with all the components you would expect wrapped up in an elegant frame. No signs of the 2007 vintage here, this is just beautiful wine that will age well over 20+ years. Already approachable.

Popped, poured into a decanter and served immediately; consumed over three hours. The wine offered violet, black currant, blackberry, plum, dark cherry, raspberry, strawberry, saddle leather, barnyard notes, spices, liquorice, dark chocolate and cigar box on the nose. On the palate the wine showed floral notes, graphite, black currant, blackberry, plum, dark cherry, raspberry, strawberry, leather, spices, clove, liquorice, espresso, dark chocolate and some tobacco, paired with medium-plus well-integrated acidity, medium-plus fine, well-integrated tannin and very good length. The medium-bodied wine did not have the concentration of more heralded vintages, but was very well-made, very balanced, with good complexity. A great success for the vintage. We liked it. Start drinking from 2014.

Medium plus purple core, deep ruby rim. On the nose, dark fruits, oak, vanilla, toffee, baking spice, licorice. On the palate, medium plus acidity, medium plus finish with notes of dark chocolate. Well-balanced and elegant. At this stage, the tannins are still firm, but supple. They are certainly not green like some of the 2007s I tasted. It should reach its peak in another 5 years or so, depending on the cellaring conditions.

Gruaud Larose Dinner (Inovasi - Lake Bluff IL): I think this clearly outclassed the two young vintages of Larose du Gruaud in the flight (2009, 2010) despite the challenges of 2007. Plum and cassis with a meay character on the nose and faint floral hints. Currant and cooked meat flavors with some leather elements on finish. Probably best starting in the next few years.

Tasted at Chateau Guuard LaRose after sampling 2001 Sarget, 2001 First Label, then 2007 Sarget. Opened 45 minutes before tasting. Clearly the best of the four. Based on earlier scores it must be aging well as I found it spectacular and some other reviewers found it lacking. Smooth tannins, strong clove and cinnamon with heavy dark cherry base. Great finish that I am still savoring.

Tasted at the chateau. Earth, coffee, smoke, chocolate. Roasted. I wonder how much toast was on this oak. Tannic and a little animal on the palate. I wonder how the post-2006 Gruaud style will play out in the long run... 3+ to 4-

2012 Bordeaux Trip; 4/1/2012-4/4/2012 (Bordeaux, France): ’07 GL – This bottle had just been opened. Toasty mocha nose with a touch of animal and red cherry. Palate is well polished, with fine tannins and moderate concentration. Tannins are rather soft. Shows sweet cedar notes along with black cherry and cassis. Finish is a little short and simple, but adds a stony element that is almost flint. Nice polished wine in a tough year, good for drinking now. 90-92

UGC 2007 Bordeaux (The Drake, Chicago IL): nose: real good and balanced nose of cedar, tobacco, spice box, a bit of funky tones, dark red cherries and some sour berries
taste: excellent fuller feel with chewy tannins and tones of cedar, tobacco, dark red cherries, and sour berries. Good depth, and showing its youth as the tannins are fairly rough
overall: A real nice showing by Gruaud Larose. Well balanced with a real muscular style to it for the vintage. The tannins are good and there is some very good material to work with on this

General note from memory: This was one of the more memorable wines of the UGC tasting, all the more impressive since this wine trades on subtlety, character and finesse rather than power and opulence. Classic St. Julien flavors of reddish-to-dark fruits, graphite, tobacco, all tightly structured in a way that will provide a very classic Bordeaux pleasure over the course of its evolution. Well done for the vintage. 90-92.

If this wasn't a great vintage then I want to try one of them because this was all there at the start. Straight out of the bottle it had a decent nose and tasted of mocha and fruit. Was a bit elegant and looked really pretty in the glass as well. Bit more acid crept in later and a glass the next day had more greeness

Beautiful nose. Red fruits, smoke and coffee like on the palate. Medium bodied. Smooth and balance. Very nice.

Some Highlights from Flickinger Tasting (Casino Club - Chicago IL): Tasting, brief note. Some dark fruit with some cassis hints on nose, but leaner styled flavors. Nice overall, but ever-so-slightly drying on finish.

5th Annual Pilgrimage to Chateau Lanessan (and its 200 year old cellar ); 8/17/2012-8/19/2012 (Chateau Lanessan, Bordeaux): At the chateau. For a 2007 this showed very well with good fruit on the nose and starting to integrate the oak. Good fruit on the palate and although it lacks depth it makes for good early drinking in our view. 89

Hint of cinnamon over sweet tannins this screams of very young but has soft edges in the glass revealing the softness it may become in several more years. This is young but a good decant and this is a great wine for value.

Union des Grands Crus de Bordeaux 2007 Tasting (The Annex - Hollywood & Highland): Very delicate on the nose with earth and blackberry. The red berry flavors are supple and attractive with interesting earthy and savory tones. Tremendously elegant throughout with restrained tannins and acidity.
