Based on its forward earthy nose and its slight brick hue, I first thought this was over the hill at 15 years of age. Very musty with no fruit profile on the nose. After breathing in bottle for two hours, corked it back up, then returned to it 24 hours later. The obvious tannins surprised me for a Cotes Chalonnaise of this age. Yet, it drank surprisingly well the second day, with red fruits on the palate and that earthy nose now very beguiling and hypnotic. I agree with other recent reviews that this is approaching its final moments, so I would suggest drinking this over the next 12-18 months.

The nose is somewhat closed, but has strawberry and alcoholic heat that suggests the acidity you get on the palate, which has tart cherries and and wet earth. Sharp and tannic without much fruit left at all. Almost the complete opposite of what I would have expected from a Mercurey Pinot.

Lovely earthy nose with a hint of raspberry and strawberry. This bottle was fading on the palette with the fruit just poking through. Not sure if I would hold any longer.

Manque un peu de matière. Belle acidité et tanins légèrement asséchant a l'ouverture. Avec l'aération il se dévoile un peu cerise et graphite. A probablement besoin de temps.

Lighter style of red berries and earth and granite. Components all there but still needs time in the bottle to work out the predominant acid and tannin elements.

Nice nose, typically charming pinot fruit, good intensity. Taste has a rough tannin edge making the wine fairly strict and not that easy drinking by itself. Will observe over the coming days.

Drank first bottle a couple of years ago. Overwhelmed by the oak and tannins. Tannins have softened considerably and the fruit is showing. Drinking nicely now. Will give my last bottle another year or so.

A little pissed off at being opened so young so it sends out all of its structural elements to warn the drinker off. There’s fabulous, minerally posture upon which tart red fruits are shrink wrapped tightly against and it is going to be special, it just needs another 10 years.

Very raspberry fruit on entry, and rasping tannins too, as you'd expect from Faiveley, but the fruit was there to soften them, and what deep fruit it was too, the merest touch of the farm and a certain wildness (though nothing like the Volnay that followed) - very nice, interesting wine

Initial nose of rose pedal
Laser acidity a tad sour on the palette
Ruby red juicy fruit
Still has some harsh tannin decided to let it breathe
After 1.5 hours
Opened up to mineral
Lighter bodied
Concentrated masculine fruits
Elegant and intoxicatingly aromatic at the end

nice fruit. bit disjointed - still on the young side. Needs several years in bottle. Try again around 2020

From cask: Pale cherry. Earthy but charming nose with raspberry and blackberry fruit. Dry but well poised. Very rustic in style, but satisfying. 3+
