To my surprise, this bottle was still drinkable! I picked up a number of these Koonunga Hills from the late 90s cheap in an online auction a while ago. The other bottle of this vintage was too far gone, smelled like hay and tasted like sultanas. This bottle had none of that. Good colour, subtle berry. It definitely needed some air. Very surprising.

Good colour, quite a minty blackcurranty nose. Follows through to palatte, quite elegant though with new world jammy fruit. Not long, but pleasant enough and better for its extra age.

($10) Dense color in the glass. Nose is stewed dark fruit, a hint of oak and a pinch of roasted nuts. In the background are dust, herbs, and spices. Full-bodied, good with food and overall surprisingly entertaining.

Pretty amazing for a wine like this. But you do have to keep it this long to get it good.

These are undrinkable young. 20 years and it's a great wine for the price.

Belle évolution. Beaucoup plus soyeux que lorsque mis en marché Plus équilibré. Pourra encore vieillir. Tannins assouplis, mais encore fermes.
