I had this wine a few months ago and that bottle was way down on its decline. That's why I opened this one up soon after. However, this was like a completely different wine. Nose still had dark fruits and over time some secondary notes appeared. The palette was balanced even though some might find it a little too spicy. The tannin was fully integrated making the wine drank very smoothly. I guess the lesson learned is to open these early rather than late.

Another one I had forgotten. This is past its prime, but was (a bit) better with some air. On an initial pour, this was a quick punch of fruit, followed by a hollow mid-palate and then a bunch of residual oak. With some air it filled out a tiny bit of the middle, but I think this missed its intended purpose by several years. No tertiary notes, hanging on rather that evolving, drink these earlier... don't confuse this with the Martha's.

1st night: nicely structured but not getting enough fruit to balance the firm tannins. Dry medium chewy mouthfeel, decently long finish with dark fruit lasting a while, but initial flavor upon entry isn't overwhelming me. A good but not a great bottle. 2nd nite: much better fruit/tannin/acid balance. Quite enjoyable, a bit of spice at the end, raised to 90 points.

Dark ruby color turning crimson at the rim with a reflective edge. The nose shows off red and black fruits, earth, eucalyptus, mint, and vanilla. The palate is full-bodied, dry, with a silky texture. Flavors of dark cherry, cassis, dark chocolate, espresso, black licorice, dried meat, and very mild smoked oak. This is a delight - one of the old-styled Napa Cabs that have maintained its classic style. Finishes long and pure with refined tannin and a hint of white pepper spice sprinkled on oak. Drink now until 2019.

Second and last bottle from my cellar and I am sad it is gone. Smooth wine with notes of currant, black raspberry, and earth. Tannins not overly pronounced. Enjoyed with a bone in ribeye and Quinoa. I think this wine is in a peak state right now drink it, it's fab!

Decanted about 45 minutes. Drank alongside Heitz's '03 Cab Sauv and this was the winner! Was more aromatic, a little floral, had more body and flavor on the palate, integrated tannins, nice finish and seemed to have enough acid and structure to support a few more years of development. Enjoyed it more than two years ago.

Christmas Wines w/ Family & Friends; 12/24/2014-12/28/2014: Showing quite well right out of the bottle, no decanting necessary. Evolving aromas, still lively on the palate with dusty tannins, medium acid and velvety red and black fruits. Some real nice earthy, charcoal, cedar and tobacco elements, the latter of which became more evident with time. Bold and full but showing lots of nuance. Seems in prime drinking condition, maybe a few more years if in perfect condition, but no problem drinking up now.

Alas, my last bottle of Heitz after the Pennsylvania wine stores had several batches a few years ago. The '04 is fruity and balanced, with oak and cinnamon, menthol and raisins. Nice nose on opening. Allowed to breath for about an hour, and even then, was a bit tight on first tasting. Earthy, with smooth long aftertaste. Wish I had bought more....

Aggressive aromas of cedar and blackberries. Sweet palate of raisins, vanilla and heat on the finish. Not bad, avoids the excesses of many Napa cabernets. Good for what it is but not a great value at ~ $40.

Nose of blackberry, black cherry, licorice, eucalyptus and vanilla. A little angular when first opened, but this smooths out some with air. A good bit of acid and moderate tannins lead to spice and oak that fills out the moderately long finish.

After a couple of hours sitting in the open bottle the wine really hits its stride. Dark fruits on the nose with eucalyptus and horse saddle. This is a rustic wine that paired very nicely with fillet and wild mushrooms. Blackberry and fig with firm tannins. I would buy more if given the chance.

Fall Fest 2008: nose: well balanced nose with cranberries, dark cherries, mint and red currants. Nice heitz style, but the hot vintage shows through a bit with this being jammy(well, jammy for heitz)
taste: slightly disjointed with cranberries, dark cherries, red currants, and anise tones
overall: I was expecting a bit more to be honest. Its a good solid cab, but it just didn't have that refinement that heitz brings that I love from them. Its not even that this is young, it just didn't have what I'm used to from heitz. c'est la vie

A little to early for this wine. A bit green at the beginning. Took about 3 hours for this to really open up. When it did it was a little jammy along with some heavy plum notes. Still a bit tannic but has nice potential for being a very nice wine in a few years IMO.
