Decanted about 2 1/2 hours. Explosive with rich cream and dark black fruit on the nose. Underneath was hints of tobacco and dark chocolate, plus a touch of spice. The palate was more about the dark chocolate and tobacco, with the dark black fruit in the background. Not as creamy on the palate as the nose was, but still heavily influenced by the oak.

Pop & pour (notes from day 2). Lots of oak in this one, with a soft quality that was nice at first, but quickly gets tiresome. Creamy and smooth, flavors of raspberry and cassis rule, with vanilla and oak being prominent in the finish.

Decanted 2 hours. Lots of oak on this one, just starting to really integrate on Day 3. Initially, this was a big mouthful of wood, with some great berry fruit and drying tannins. Day 2 was much smoother, but still heavy on the vanilla-oak flavors. Day 3 this wine was singing, with just some vanilla on the finish, and that blackberry and plum fruit hitting hard on the attack. Not a fruitbomb, but certainly not shy either. I'd give this another year or two to integrate everything a bit more. I see the 2006 Columbia Valley has a drinking window of 2013+, which should give you some idea on this wine.
