Seymour Wine Club Meeting 1/20/18 (Home of the Slywka's): Tasted Blind. Aromas of dried cherry, mushroom and earth. Flavors of dried cherry, mushroom and dried strawberry. This still had quite a bit of fruit in it and really opened up over 30 minutes. Ends with a beautiful 30+ second finish. I was surprised because of the quality of the vintage overall and the previous 07 Shea's I have had have been so so. I gave this 93 points and it won wine of the night.

Light color even with a little bricking. Despite the the fragile color, this was a rather large scaled wine for the vintage, but quite balanced. Nose was quite expressive with a floral quality to the red fruits. Red fruit and underbrush on the palate, which was supple and round but plenty of verve. Moderate finish with some sandalwood and spice notes mixed in. Quite nice. Probably at peak for me.

The 2007 vintage is starting to age well. The fruit is starting to take second fiddle to sandlewood, mushroom, and earth. Beautiful texture and long finish.

A terrific OR pinot, with brown spice, flowers, black raspberries on penetrating nose. Very smooth with silky tannins, tons of minerals and wild dark cherries, mocha. A bit disjointed on day 1, but on 3rd day this took off. Reminds me of a great vosne.

Graham cracker and dark fruit on the nose. Cola and earth on the palate. Long lingering tannins, perhaps too long for some but I enjoyed it very much. Probably wait a couple years before I drink my last bottle. Will only get better.

Still quite young; decanted for an hour and consumed over ensuing 90 minutes. Out of the bottle was very closed to both nose and palate but at 60 minutes the cola and dark fruit noted by others emerged. Shortly thereafter the wine exhibited powerful spice box and almost pepper, which gave way to a lovely, integrated wine with excellent balance of wood and fruit. Heavy mouthfeel throughout. I think the more austere scoring and comments below resulted from consumption way too young. Even now it is still infanticide.

Just not the complexity and interest you usually get with a Homer. A little... well... blah. Perfectly correct and drinkable, but not at all memorable.

NC Cindy tasting. Quite dark in color, on the nose this wine is fairly sweet on the nose with good cola aromas over a base of dark cherries. On the palate, nicely balanced, but maybe just a little bit one-dimensional, with the cherry and cola flavors carrying through. Very easy-drinking, this wine wasn't quite complex enough to garner the 92+ scores we've seen from professional reviewers. Still, it was a very solid effort, and probably the third-best effort of the night for my palate. Not Old World at all, though, so beware if you don't prefer the California flavor profile.

This wine is big. Too early to drink now, and I'm sure it will improve as the tannins integrate, but for the price point, I'm not sure I'll go back to this wine. Very lovely wine, but should be $40-45 instead of $75.

Our 2007 Homer is blended from some the best barrels in our cellar. Complex aromas of clove, cinnamon, ripe plum and blackberry combine with an opulent texture and ample ripe tannin. The result is a big wine of great intensity and complexity. Home was a particular favorite of those who tasted it as a barrel sample last Memorial Day weekend. 333cases made.

Futures barrel tasting. Nice fruit and well integrated oak. The most enjoyable of the 2007's for us. Too expensive to buy even with the reasonable futures discount.
