On magnum. At it's peak, with layers of fruit (cherry), forrest earth, a little tobacco and some sangiovese bitter in the after taste. Very easy to drink; bottle was empty in no time at all. Went very well with the Tuscan beef stew.

Ruby red. Classical sangiovese aroma, quite spicy. Medium bodied, surprisingly mature fruit. Nice acidity. Herbs and sottobosco. Not very long nor complex. Nice but not exciting.

Right at the corkpull, the nose is absolutely beautiful, promising gorgeous fruit to follow...rich cherry and the depth of ripe raspberry juice, shows just enough richness to fill it out. Think late afternoon sun.
Tart cherry, clear and bright. The nose at this point is much richer than the palate, but let's see what develops.
Day 2 (midday): The nose has really thinned out and the alcohol is abundantly present. The palate has remained tart and becomes not just tart cherry, but sour, too. Mouth-puckeringly so... Recorked and had another glass of the Vietti Perbacco instead. Last night, it really did not work well with italian sausage and homemade marinara. (Vietti Perbacco worked so much better.)

Chianti (Waterford Wine Co., Milwaukee): at pop and pour quite a dose of dark wheat oak note up front. nose is wound pretty tight right now. palate is tight cherry fruit with a floral attack that quickly disappears. rose. violets. as they reappear on the finish. 5 hours in...tannin adds approachable texture to this wine. Otherwise easy one dimensional cherry fruited. As it sheds some tannin let's hope it develops some secondary character.

Good fruit expression of sangiovese on the nose, almost bolder than I expected or remembered. Tight palate, but just opened. Juicy, with some darker fruits showing through. Tannins present, but tamed. First drag of the day here so showing very acidic to me right now after a cough drop. We shall see where it goes.

Very good. Decanted for about 40 minutes before first glass and ran first glass through the vinturi. On the nose there was some barnyard, mixed with very vibrant red fruits. Cherries, and Raspberries. On the palate the acidity is very interesting, very strong but not intrusive. The sour cherries are rocking in this wine. I thought it was a very nice chianti.

Typical black cherry-driven smell, simple but pleasant, then palatable softness, subtle tannins, stimulating acidity and some fruity savageness in finishing: they define an agile medium-bodied, balanced, good Chianti Classico. No frills here.

Blind Sangiovese Tasting (Living Room): The wine has scents of cherries, and a creamy mushroom dish, with both characters coming through when tasted. The flavors are light, and the structure leaves the wine feeling a bit hollow.

Blind Sangiovese Tasting (Dan's Place): Smells mature... though something is odd here. It really smells like a boxed cake mix, complete with frosting and candy sprinkles. Smells fake. Bright fruit is present on the palate, no real tannins, but it's candied tasting. Candied fruit but still no tannins on the finish... this tastes like a completely resolved wine. Surprised to see it's 2006 upon reveal.

Smells like wonderful Chianti. Dusty cherry, clear water, nice palate dexterity. Nicely done. The RS is more contemprary style where as this is supposed to represent Chianti in its classical, well made form.

Nice bottle of chianti Classico. A good balance of fruit and earthiness with just enough acidity and tannins make this a pleasant and easy drinker.

Maybe too late for this bottle. Non defective, but missing typical sangiovese aromas and very "fast" in the palate.

Slightly candied cherry flavors that are focused but quickly overwhelmed by Sangiovese acidity. Pretty, but needs food to cut the acidity.

Sensory Evaluation excursion: Badia a Coltibuono (Gaiole in Chianti): 90% SG, 10% Cannaiolo. Very good CC. Ruby, clear, moderate acidity, moderate level of smooth tannins, light body. Not too intense or persistent, medium length and complexity. Just like a CC should be.
