On the nose it is buttered with hazelnuts. The curry will arrive during the tasting.
The palate is fat. Beautiful substance, where the butter fights with the curry to gain the upper hand. It is structured with a fine acidity. The wine is ample, almost oily. The finish is of a very beautiful intensity where the minerality emerges with a freshness which gives it a lot of length.
Excellent bottle.

Darker yellow in color. Not a ton on the nose initially. May have been a little cold. On the palate this is better than it looks. Good richness and vibrancy. Hints of oxidation but not overly oxidized. Lemon, tangy acidity, nuts, lees. Overall for the vineyard a bit of a disappointment but still good for a 17 year old white wine. Drink up - given the color and oxidation creeping in this will not improve.

Deep, dark gold, the wine was compltely closed. Even 30 minutes after decanting it was aromatically restrained and more about flavor and body. This is a big, rich, sappy wine with a grainy, mealy mouthfeel and flavor, with a classic Burgundy bite and a rich, long and comforting finish. Almost to be savored on its own, away from food, it nevertheless did well with a rich seafood dish. Not sure where this goes from here, I would drink up.

When i first openned i was concerned that i had a bad bottle...However it definitely got better. Drank over a three hour period and this is a very mature wine for its age..but lots of nutty rich flavors. I went from almost throwing it out, to really enjoying after a couple of hours.

At first I thought this wine was shot, nasty but I gave my wife a sip and she said it was fine. After digesting that blow to my ego I tried another taste ten minutes later and it was much better. Detectably getting over the hill, but not there yet and absolutely stunning with her salmon soufflé.

completely on target, this was a terrific bottle. Fully mature, elegant with honeysuckle, green apple, tropical and limestone nose. TGreat minerality, precision on the attack, and intensity which goes on for a very long finish. Powerful, perfectly balanced, complex and delightful

Started off being a tad reticent, this literally blossomed in the glass! White-flowers, honeysuckle, brioche, this just kept morphing in the glass. Yellow-fruited, it not only had the intensity of its '01 sibling, but also tautness/freshness as well, making it much more complex & engaging. By the end of the night, this was just great, with classic butterscotch notes amidst well balanced richness & minerality; Ended with a long savory saline note. Most wonderful!
"1er" Dinner at the American Club to determine which plots belong to a "Grand Cru" status. Dark yellowish gold. Nose on this was initially subdued but with time and air, this was brilliant. Methol, mint leaves with lots of toffee, caramel, orange and sweetened pineapples. Touch of smoke and char as well. On the palate, there was excellent structure and balance. Toffee, butterscotch, vanilla crème, melted butter, tangerine, buttered corn and Indian mangoes, with a lovely lingering finish. Brilliant Meursault Perrieres! Verdict on Grand Cru worthiness - Yes. And Lafon would be amongst the top 3.

Ripple and Ridonculous Wines (Ripple - Cleveland Park - Washington, DC): Pure, lively, intense acid and mineral notes but creamy body. Just a hair behind the bottle that preceded it (a '99 Coche Dury 'Mersault Rougeots'). Color a little advanced, hard to say if this is a little bit of premox or just a 12 year old bottle of white Burg. Either way, time to be drinking these. Very tasty, everyone at the table enjoyed the wine, but not all that you expect from a great Lafon in a great vintage. Not quite as sweet as the previous, a little 'nutty' in flavor (the 'ox' in the wine?). Would have been better on it's own. Drink these!

Burg Dinner with Friends (The Bristol - Chicago IL): Very ripe and powerful apple and pear, well supported with some hints of roasted walnut, cinnamon and allspice. Bottle variation. My last bottle, just a few weeks ago, had the beginnings of either PremOx or Ox. None in this bottle. Just a near perfect white burgundy. This is why you age white Burgundy instead of drinking the first day it hits your cellar. Medium gold color, flavors of butterscotch, toast, a little bitterness (in a good way). Wine has been in my cellar for 6+ years and I think handled well before that. If this bottle is representative, I'd be careful aging these more than another 3-5 years. I'm going to drink all of mine over the next few years. Great now, but the risk is that it goes downhill from here...

A little more gold then yellow. nose of smoke, minerals and lemon peel. upon opening i think the wine was a bit too cold and tasted of sharp lemony acidity and a touch of sweetness at the end that worried me as it taste like the wine is developing a bit faster than it should. not premox just speedy. as the wine warmed up the acidity took over in a good way. the wine showed a bit of butter/cream, lots of lemon lime and most of the sweetness went away. nice lunch wine

OK, is it possible for a wine to be this good and still have a little oxidation? Well, the wine started fairly dark and a pretty oxidized nose, and I thought about pouring it out. But one sip gave me pause. The wine had an uncanny mineral richness and smoothness. There was/is an amazing balance and a black fruited( or undescribable blackness), sheer, amazing, balanced, intense attack that never let up but had such smoothness and no abruptness, and lasted for ages. What an amazing wine. Oh yes, the wine lightened up in color over about a day, and there was never a thought of oxidation on the mouth and only the slightest hint on the nose on day two. FWIW I am not a pro white Burg drinker, but I have bought a good few of them since 1992. I have had more than most of them premoxed- especially with any age. I have mostly, even in the worst case scenarios, let the pre-moxed wines I have opened, go to the next day- call it science-, and in this case it paid off. If you have zero tolerance for pre-mox, then you would probably "flaw" this wine. Also, I have never had a better example or Perrieres, so my score might not be of consequence, but I have to say that this is a mid to high 90's wine, and gets better by the hour. 97 wiki
