Lemon gold. Rather spicy, cinnamon-y, baked apple nose. Rich, fat, mouthfeel. Dried mango and candied pineapple. Baking spices again. Red apple, apple pie. Apple skins and grape skins. Slightly bitter pomelo on the long finish. Lovely stuff. Went very nicely with our pan-Asian dinner of Char Kway Teow, Duck in red curry, Beef rendang, and our local version of ceviche called kinilaw which uses vinegar instead of citrus.

First bottle and feels like this is approaching peak. Peach, yellow fruit, with grapefruit and greener citrus zest, perfect Spatlese weight and a refreshing slate aspect to the finish although this came across as softer and a little more delicate than eg NH. ***1/2++

From glass. Pale cloudy yellow at first, then more of a sheen. Nose of flat, creamy coconut, lemon custard and a bit of rubber. But Donnhoff is full of surprises: vibrant, arresting, zesty acidity; full, rich, juicy lemon and gray rockies; clean finish, lingering more on gums than tongue. Some coconut and custard too, but mostly intense citrus. Delicious.

Riesling and Vietnamese/French (Ngon's Bistro): Another Donnhoff that really got my attention. It seems so elegant, and this 2007 had great balance. Ripe golden fruit, apricots, pineapple.

This was remarkably fresh on the nose with ripe apple, apricot, young peach, sweet cream, smoke, wet stone and hints of botrytis. It was soft and pleasantly ripe on the palate, offset by brisk citrus-tinged acidity and minerals with mounting sweet inner florals. The finish was medium in length, showing ripe peach, with mouthwatering acids a and lingering minerality.

very nice sugar/acid balance, like a spatlese with some age should drink, one could find sweetness if you looked, but it didn't announce itself with each sip. Nose and palate seemed a bit tight, opened up some after a few hours

Floral nose with slate and lemon custard. Some sweetness balanced by strong acidity. A harmonious wine that should improve for at least 10 years. 92-94.

I agree with the previous taster. This wine is still tasty but it lacks acidity and comes off a bit flabby. The flavors of sweet stone fruits and minerality are there but it just seems to be missing something. That was a pretty quick decline since the last bottle I had which was only slightly over a year ago. Drink up.

Golden color which suggested advanced aging. However, the wine was not advanced and showed good acidity and minerality. Stone fruits on the palate. Drink now. This won't get any better.

Light-bodied with the color of straw at this age. On the nose, flavorful fruit intensity and light oak; I get pear, peach and a hint of petrol. Off-dry with medium-low acidity, at first taste the wine starts creamy, but finishes with a bit of tartness.

This summer I have been drinking Dönnhof riesling trocken 08, which has been very nice, now in the end of the summer I had this bottle from 07. The alcohol is lower than the trocken 08, this is halftrocken but it has a very nice mature feeling which makes that I don't feel the sugar that much. More minerals and depth. Of course you sense that there is sugar in it. The color is very nice deep yellow and on the nose it has lots of mineral and mature fruit. The taste is fresh lots of acid, mineral, stone fruits, big body with a grape finish that seems not to end. The wine is so intense and powerful that I wonder what might go with this, maybe a creamy salty cheese or some asian dish with seafood and coconut milk.

Brought to a thai restaurant for dinner. Light yellow color. Great nose right out of the gate with some baked apple, stone fruit, honeysuckle and a touch of petrol coming through. Similar flavors on the palate with intense, sweet stone fruit coating your palate. Creamy texture but plenty of acidity and a long, sweet finish. Really nice wine and will continue to develop with age.

Not as sweet as most Spätlese. Lots of ripe pear with a little spice (not sure how to describe the spice). It had a long smooth finish. Just the right amount of acid made it a fantastic pairing with fresh cracked dungeness crab.

A bit more cut would elevate this delicious wine. Aromatically broad, the palate even moreso, this is a rich wine with nice cascading layers of flavor. Apricot, white peach, persimmon. Wonderfully suited to pair with rich main courses. Has miles ahead of it, and is a nice candidate to improve with a little bottle age.

Deepening yellow. Lovely riesling nose with white and tropical fruits accented by citrus, stones, diesel and flowers. Sweet fruit and mineral on palate. Nicely balanced and textured. Leans toward complexity, but not prominently at this stage. The RS was off-putting to Nancy. Hope I can persuade differently or find a better food match as I really like this style.

Alcohol :: 8.5% This has the most expressive aromatic profile in the line up, honey lemon, grapfruits with hint of perfume floral and Mosel like mineral tones. Juicy intense palate with rich lemony, citrus notes and hint of sweet yellow fruits that firmly supported by the mineral backbone with bright acidity that flow on to the very clean, grippy finish with ripe acidity to go along. The most complete wine though lack a little bit of depth and clearly wine of the night for everyone. Buy - Maybe.

A Spätlese Blind Tasting (Fatty Weng): A classic nose of understated aromatics, especially of white flowers, leads to a light-bodied off-dry palate of intense clarity which perfectly epitomizes the phrase power without weight. Not an outstanding Spätlese per se but one with modest grace and drinking well now.

Really impressive. Much, much better than my last experience with this wine: this is full of bright red fruits, peaches and apples over a saline mineral base with a faint creaminess emerging on the back end. There's a sense of finesse and polish to the flavours with all the elements combining into a seamless whole and bright acids underneath keeping it very refreshing and nicely balanced.

Somewhat disappointed. Though very good, it was a bit to sweet without enough acidity. Lots of citrus, mint, and apples, good mouthfeel and decent finish. Perhaps just way too young, but this just was not singing tonight.

Fuller on the palate as compared to the JJ Prum. Finish is almost slate like and is light. Seem the style is thicker and heavy on the palate. A bit of lychee on the finish prefer the more elegant of JJ Prum. Nose not really obvious.

Light yellow to yellow color in the glass, clear hue throughout. Nose of diesel, flowers, tangerine and light notes of pencil shavings. Flavors of sweet cherries, orange zest and light notes of honey. Medium to bright acidity, medium body. Drink or hold.

Doesn't have the sense of understatement or elegance that I normally expect from Donnhoff's Spätlese, this is much more forward and showy with a bright floral and faintly perfumed aromatic profile leading into a rich, creamy-textured palate full of bright strawberry and peachy flavours over softer saline mineral notes. Very tasty at first, though this feels rather on the soft side without the acidity or definition that I look for in Spätlese, and after a couple of glasses the sweetness gets heavy and tiring.

A pleasant surprise, having found the 2005 bottling of this wine a bit flabby at this stage of development. Ample acidity to balance the sweetness...medium plus finish...this wine strikes me as performing as a spatlese should be expected to....very good

Ramonet Dinner (Park Palace, Grand Park Hotel): Donnhoff seems to be able to do no wrong in recent vintages - this was rather short of overwhelming though. Every was pleasant and yummy, but nothing outstanding. Still, very enjoyable. Nose showed pineapple notes, along with more reticent Chinese pear scents wed to chalky mineral and musky flowers. The palate had typical Donnhoff grip, lots of dry extract, and sweet white fruit with a little spritz and nice acidity. Not terribly complex, but certainly very elegant. Nice, longish linger at the finish. A little short of power, but what it lacked in this department was balanced of by plenty of flavour and charm.
