Very nice. Some umami alongside the fruit - tomato paste, iron, maybe even seared steak.
Age-developed and complex, but still leads with fresh purple fruit. Balanced, mostly; if it leaned any direction, it would lean towards a bit of ripeness.

What a gorgeous wine. This is one of those wines I experience from time to time that truly take me to a happy place. It's an old school Napa Cab, as is Cathy Corison's style, in that it's elegant and restrained, ripe, but not overripe. It's all about balance with Corison wines, nothing over the top. I don't know for a fact, but would imagine grapes were picked at a Brix around 24-25ish. Blackberries, cherries, dried herbs, tobacco, great acidity, well integrated oak, just many of the things I love in a Cab were in there. This is the 6th bottle from this vintage we've had over the years, including a magnum we bought at the winery in 2015 and it's aging beautifully. I did not decant, but rather slow ox'd it - I think that was the right call - and served with juicy top sirloin burgers at the cottage. I've got a few bottles left, and don't feel rushed to open them. Superb.

Intense magenta. Toasted oak, violets, and blueberry nose. Light to medium bodied, blackberries, spices, cherry compote, sweet tannins, good acid, and a nice long finish where the fruit hangs on for an impossibly long time. Terrific.

30 minute decant. Nose of cherries, caramel, and cherry wood. Palate of black cherry, wet rocks, and minerals. Long, lengthy tannins with dark plum, rubbery clay, chicory, and oak. Finish seemed a bit hot when first poured but came around in the glass so a longer decant is recommended.

Used an Ah So and decanted 45 minutes before dinner. Selected this vintage for first wine of the pair and the notes steered me right. This was a lighter style, but still has nice fruit and great balance. Very enjoyable.

violets, plum, clove, blackberry, cassis, anise, leather and dark cherries
expected it to be lighter and that's what I got. I appreciate her leaner style if drinking on its own, but when it goes head to head with other 06 Napa, the fruit just seems thin. nice balance though.

To be honest, an OK bottle of Cab, not something too linger over. Decanted after cork disentegrated on removal, well balanced but no essential fruit. Has nothing on a good Red Mountain cab. Would have hoped these would knit into something greater than the sum of the parts, but after the disappointing 2005, did not want to take the chance of waiting too long.

Drinks wonderfully right now, with proper breathing. Slow oxed for an hour, followed by several hours of decanting; tasted throughout. Gorgeous floral nose that persisted from the opening. On the palate, plenty of energy, some clay, indian spices, tobacco, and dark fruit notes. Great richness and depth of fruit balanced by very good acidity and well-resolved tannins. Appears to be at its peak, relative to my prior tasting in 2015.

Exactly what you expect. Restrained bdx style, though 100% cab. 13.8% ABv and completely integrated. Alive and probably in the middle of the window not the end. Black fruited, BlackBerry, blueberry, jam, some earth and graphite. I probably would not have picked napa. This wasnt a wow wine, just a very nice smooth cab, probably not worth the price after the increase over the last few years.

Tasted the 1999 and 2013. 5 stars. Full bodied and well balanced. Dark fruit and earth aroma. Blackberry, plum, coffee and spice flavors. Smooth and long finish. My favorite cab.

This is just gorgeous. Inky purple with very little sign of age. Pure blackberry, cassis fruit supported by lovely chalky tannins. Thick, concentrated and sweet and ready to go right now this minute with or without food. Sensible alcohol at 13.8%. Quietly confident and just exudes class without having to shout about it. My only gripe would be that it possibly lacks a bit of freshness but maybe I served it too warm.
Either way, a superb wine made by a vigneron clearly at the absolute top of her game.

This is drinking beautifully, even before we grilled the gorgeous 24 oz. Flannery rib steaks. Lots of bright red fruit, licorice, and a luscious and long finish with ripe fruit and milk chocolate. I tasted this at the winery last month and it was terrible, but I already had a couple of bottles in my cellar. I opened this because I had to see for myself if the bottle at the winery was off or if this vintage was a dud for Corison. I have my answer but why pour a bad bottle? If it was my first time trying Corison, I would never buy a bottle.

After we had finished our tasting flight which included the 12 and 99 vintages of this wine, they brought this out. I generally like older wine. I assumed I would like the 99 better than this since I prefer more mature aromas in my wine. I was wrong. This is a stunner which is at or near peak. Blueberry, sun dried tomato, mint, graphite, iron. Long licorice finish. Lovely balance and ultra-elegant and refined, as were all of the Corison wines. This is my style of wine, other Napa drinkers may not prefer this subtle style. This can age and evolve for 10+ years but it is so good I do not see why one would wait to drink these. Outstanding.

PnP at Wild Olive in Rosemary Beach. Quite a find. After cooling down below 75, this was really good. Great note, iron and red fruit, palate was blood, iron, red dust, cherries, cherry Coke, cola with a hint of extra tartness without being bitter. Tannins and wood not in the profile at all.
A sincere nose of dried berries, vanilla, and spice, with hints of cocoa and caramel playfully peeking from the back palate. A medium-bodied and well-structured wine whose expertly balanced tannins and acidity attest to the winemaker's skill. Rounded, velvety, and with a vibrant, engaging, and lingering finish, the wine displays a reserved elegance that's to be appreciated.

Smells the most cherry medicinal out of the '04, '05, '06 set. Bright candied cherry fruit.
In a real sweet spot from '12 and '13 - so I guess put it on the 10 year plan. So the nose is very opened up and expressive, all the fruit is still in play on the palate, rounded with supple tannins now, a very long finish.
Slow ox for several hours, followed by decanting over few more hours. Beautiful, concentrated nose and impressive finish. Mid-palate is well developed. Relatively ripe on the palate, with aged cherry, leather, and blue fruit notes on the palate. Aging quite nicely and drinks well now; not at its peak yet though.

Delicious wine. Blue and red fruit, tobacco, leather. Very fine grained tannins. Nicely balanced wine. Should age well - tertirary flavors/aromas only very subtly emerging now, but hinting a bright future. Elegant, not over the top. Excellent. Should please anyone who enjoys more restrained, elegant, old school cabs.

Cathy Corison's wines at Arlequin (Arlequin SF): Dark ruby in the glass. On the nose, overripe cherry with faint brett spice. In the mouth, classic Corison: Medium body, medium alcohol [also 13.6%], excellent midpalate aromatics with a hint of Brett and well-contained tones of fresh wood (smells like smooth, fine-grained freshly-sanded wood to me) [French oak, 50% new]. Balanced acid (moderate - not as elevated as the others) and plush moderate-intensity tannins. Long finish. A cool year - they picked a month later than usual. Score: Between 8.5 and 9. $100

A classic Napa Cabernet Sauvignon in every way. Deep dark red in color with a sophisticated blend of blackberry and oak with a hint of raspberry fruits. A medium body superb wine to have with steak.

Not up to the 2005 or some recent vintages. A little heavy on the oak and tannins and light on the acid. Consequently, the fruit is a little mushy. I'm a big Corison fan and this vintage disappoints in its lack of structure. Of course, in being picky. It's still a very nice wine. Just not what I expect from Cathy's wine.

leather, tobacco, blackberry, silky narrow body, slight heat. drinking nicely though a few years might be good for it to let more of the secondary notes come in. Should easily last 4-5+ years. Would be better without the noticeable heat - if the heat ever subsides this will be an awesome bottle.

Corison (at the winery): Black currants and cigar box - pleasant but much warmer fruit than the 2010 and the 2005 which were tasted side by side. Still has some grip, but the midpalate is soft and the finish short.

A ripe, fruit-forward Cab Sauv that's drinking well right now, with potential to improve. A little tight on the first day, but singing on day two. Smooth and elegant with not a trace of oak. Great balance between tart black currant, sweet ripe raspberry and bramble. Hints of cigar box and leather that will hopefully develop further in time. Good acidity level and slightly dusty tannins. The fruit lingers on the long finish.

Classic Corison style, restrained. Elegant - a ballerina amongst guerrillas. Decanted for a few minutes and drank over a few hours. Fruit is still ripe with some grippy tannins. It's drinkable, but this will easily cellar for additional years. All and all, a very nice Napa cab. VERY GOOD.

Highly perfumed smells of mixed berries, brush, and cassis. The palate is juicy and light on its feet upon entry, but really closes with a flourish with good weight, spice, cherry/cranberry/blueberry fruit flavors and good earthiness to it. Loved the measured sweetness, earth, and freshness this displayed on top of the heady fruit. Classic Napa Cabernet, and down right impressive.

This is a restrained type of Napa Cab, yet it is rich, friendly and really likes to play along. Very dense cassis nose, with tobacco, tar, leather, but not so Medoc-like as in other vintages. Still a great wine, and if you like this not-so-over-the-top style of Napa Cab, this is what you should look for, great stuff, long, foodfriendly but also great on it´s own.
By the way, I let it breathe for almost 3 hours before serving, and trust me, she needs air!

Very nice cabernet. Dark red in the glass with a nose of blackberries, leather and violet. The taste is slightly subdued with dark chocolate, blackberry and tobacco. The tannins were really well integrated in this. I wanted more from the glass, the aroma was sublime, the taste on the pallet a little lacking. Overall very good and I'm glad I have more.

Double Blind Tasting - 1/23/2011 (Farpointe Cellar): Dark red in the glass. The wine smelled a lot like blueberry pie topped with whipped cream. Spice and tobacco round out the nose. Rich on the palate, The tobacco and blueberry flavors were really well married together. The cigar finish was very appealing.

taste: full bodied with thrashing tannins. The openness of the nose is sharply contrasted to the tannins on the palate. Behind the tannins are good tones of dark red fruits, mint, cedar and some vanilla tones
overall: this could be a real stunner when the tannins pull back a bit. Well balanced, but the tannins are just too much at this time

This wine is very dark ruby red, medium bodied and 13.8% alcohol. It is like all of Corison's wines, traditionally made. It gives off aromas of boysenberries, dark chocolate, violets and leather. It tastes of dark berries, black cherries, and chocolate. This is a wine that has the acid, tannin and solid structure to improve with age. This wine is drinking decently now, a lot of decanting will be needed, but natural aging will do it the best. I would wait until at least 4 years from now to open this one, it should easily improve 12 to 15+ years from vintage date and would not be at all surprised to see it as an excellent wine at 20 or more years of age. Last year I had a 1998 Corison, and even though '98 was not considered a good year for Napa, this wine was still not at its peak, it had no color loss and had many great years ahead of it. Even in off vintages, Corison wines are still going to be made for the long haul! The wines are definitely food friendly at Corison as well. One of the most underrated, underappreciated wineries in Napa. A must visit if you are in the area!

Just a baby. Big nose. A bit tight on the palate but nicely balanced with rustic black fruit notes. This should age beautifully. Love the restrained style of Corison's wines. 13.8% ABV

Tasting that included 2001, 2004 and 2006 plus 1998, 2002 and 2003 Kronos. The 2006 was the least impressive of the line-up. Good but not great.

Very reserved California cab. Well integrated flavors, but did not find anything particularly compelling over two days.

Family Winemakers. Nose of dark black fruit, currants, and dust, more of the same on the palate, tasty, subtle, touch simple, medium body, and a long pleasant finish.

Very restrained style that was then lacking the necessary finesse and balance to coax me into liking this one. Could easily be confused for a bottle of Cali cab from much less pedigree.

3rd Annual Expedition Wines American Homegrown tasting (Webster's Wine Bar, Chicago IL): nose: balanced and open nose of cedar, mint tones, dark red fruits, red cherries, some red currants and a touch of vanilla as well
taste: full bodied with thrashing tannins.
