A good night for less heralded wines. Bricking ruby color. Rustic Pinot nose - noticeable Pinot fruit extract, some earth and dark cocoa powder. Palate has matured and shows a wonderful balance of fruit and structure. Will last for many years but why wait. I can’t imagine it being more pleasures than it is now. Delicious village with real character. (90)

Brilliant and right in the pocket. Smoky, savory animal notes but still enough fruit and sweetness to rock it. This doesn't have the concentration of the 1er crus but shows great development and complexity. At peak for my taste and really everything I need from a village red Burgundy. Wine of the night.

Ruby. Sappy berry, sous bois, and dusty earth on the nose. Palate is a tad thin, but offers up an appealing mix of red and black berry framed by soft tannins and bright acidity. The 2006 NSG is everything you want in a Burgundy, with complex aromatics in a weightless package, batting above it's level for a village wine. While this might develop further aromatically, I don't think it has the stuffing to evolve structurally, so drink over the next few years.

Deep garnet core, pale garnet/mahogany rim. Earthy, aromatic, bilberry fruit, touch of hazelnut. Medium/full bodied, autumnal, lightly earthy bilberry and plum fruit, touch of liquoricey richness, tannins relatively fine if a touch sandy on the good length finish. Very good indeed, no particular hurry

Oregon vs. Burgundy Single Blind (Tilia, Mpls): Medium red color. PNP, drank 1 glass blind over 60 minutes. This was young and a bit alcoholic too, anise, red fruits, spice and some wood, firm tannins, not particularly appealing at this point. Called Burg and Chev.

This has always been a good wine in my opinion yet nothing more. My mind has not changed. Soapy, red fruit nose followed by a chunky palate that has an austere, tannic finish. Maybe it still needs time, but I just don't get a lot of harmony. We will see. (85)

Dry Riesling and Burgundy night (Olea, New Haven): Not an especially complex wine, but a very enjoyable one right now. It's surprisingly accessible for a young Chevillon with an array of bright fruit framed by more savoury earthy, tree bark, and herbal notes. Rather polished on the palate even though there's some lingering grainy tannin on the back end, and this certainly held its own alongside an '07 Raphet Beze.

PNP. cork perfect. color dark ruby. nose gives cherry and cola notes, with sous bois and a hint of iodine. swishing shows the considerable structure that is equal parts acid and tannin, but the fruit is dense and balances these. sipping shows very nice fruit density and a lengthy polished finish. wondering if previous tasters caught this in a shut down phase because this is really nice tonight and not lacking in any way.

A pretty light red color. Not much to report on the nose. The wine is easy to drink, with light red fruit. It is not that complex, but still has some tannic backbone. While I thoroughly enjoyed it, it is not worth the price.

Medium garnet. Nose is quite developed and typically NSG with smoke, earth, liquorice and underlying plum fruit. Quite rich if not particularly deep. Medium/full bodied, plum, black cherry, liquorice, soft tannins on mid-palate, lovely tangy acidity, medium/good length finish with a touch of firmness at the tail end. Very good villages, drinking now, no hurry. Next bottle 2 years.

Interesting Burgundy with complex tannin structure and moderate fruit; full in the mouth. Had interesting overtones of young Brie, which I did not have with it but which would probably have made an excellent accompaniment. At eight years old, this is hardly a young or particularly old Burgundy, but it definitely has the character that comes with age.

Bright ruby color. Juicy, sweet red fruit nose with some cafe creme. You get the feeling of freshly fermented Pinot in this wine - consistent in all bottles tasted. The palate has deepened over the last few years. There is still some tannin on the finish which suggests positive evolution for the next 3 to 5 years. This wine is just pure Pinot goodness - not complex and a touch hollow on finish - a great dinner time crowd pleaser. (88)

At Ely's Wine Bar, Dublin. €80 off the list. No formal note. Reasonably developed sweet red fruit, notes of game and spice, soft tannins, decent acidity, good length finish. Not overly complex or deep, but well balanced, soft and absolutely ready to drink. Very good indeed.

Deep ruby color that lightens quickly at rim. Sweet cherry jam nose mixed with horse hair and iron - this is no delicate flower. Muscular palate that lacks refinement but has good mid-palate stuffing. Has some bitter tannins on the otherwise slightly hollow finish. I think this bottle is in a dumb phase. Aging a few years should improve things but it is no guarantee. A wine I normally adore, but only so-so this evening. (87+)

Took about 3-4 hours to open up, and it was well worth the wait. Great texture - very smooth and silky. Very savory (blood and iron) but with a core of dark red fruit. This manages to be both serious to very gulp-able / delicious. I think it's a few years away from peak.

Drank over 4 days. Initially tight and tannic. Becomes much smoother quite fast (in about 30 minutes), but the aromatics are still quite muted. It has a lovely texture that manages to give a lot of satisfaction even though the taste isn't too impressive yet. The aromatics were much more expressive on days 3 and 4 and offered some lovely, quite complex fruit with nice warm-hearted soil tones. This will need some serious time in the cellar, but should be delicious when it starts to deliver.

This wine is gently spicy, with chocolate and driftwood on the nose. A core of dark strawberry dominates the aroma, with subtle crushed stone, earthy forest moss and mushrooms, and just a touch of pine.
The palate displays good depth with dark red, nearly dried fruit tones at the core. The palate is soft and bright, with a spritz of orange, a spark of cherry, and just a hint of white pepper. Following the mid palate and into the finish there is a very distinct earthiness, somewhat dusty and hinting of wooden casks. This is a nice wine, somewhat to the point, but well balanced with a solid tannin structure.

First bottle from a case bought on closeout. Tight and tart initially, this opened up to reveal a beautiful core of mid-weight red fruit. Beefy, brothy, and bright, this is a well-structured and very complex village NSG. A huge step up in quality from the 2004 (see TNs). Hold.

Perfumed nose, with darker red fruits. Muted earthiness, perhaps more so than I was expecting for a Nuits-St-Georges. Somewhat bright palate of red fruits, reasonably complex. Young tannins of course, and some bitterness. Medium finish.

First bottle from a recent case purchase. Rusty red color with watery rim. When first opened the smell of Brett is prominent, but this has faded now after a few hours to allow aromas of earthy cherry/raspberry to emerge. On the palate this has good structure and drying tannin from start to finish. Flavors of red fruit and barnyard. Acidity builds towards the finish which is excellent with red fruit lingering nicely. Needs, say, 3-5 years in the cellar and should be a great village Burg if the Brett stays in check.

2006 Chevillon (Vin Vino, Palo Alto): Meaty, somewhat tangy nose. Surprisingly berry like, sappy fruit upfront with a dip and a rapid transition to a more dusty tannic finish with good acidity. Not the most harmonious wine, but very good concentration and material for a Chevillon VV.

Medium deep ruby red. The nose is textbook Nuits with black currant, pepper, spice and iron notes. Medium bodied and very well balanced considering the material. Sweet dark fruit, iron and game on the palate with a great earthy sense of place. Tannins are present and a touch rustic but not distractingly so, just makes a stronger case for Nuits. Finishes with some wood and a lingering sense of earth. May well merit a higher score with a few years time. This bottle was considerably better than the first and has settled down quite a bit.

Not decanted. Nose of ripe red cherry and raspberry, slightly floral, with a slick sheen of new wood (vanilla, toasty mocha). Red fruit and bing cherry dominated palate with juicy acidity and again a good measure of creamy oak. Light to medium bodied, with fine but slightly astringent tannins that appear on the back palate and finish. While I like the balance here between ripe fruit and acid, the wood is rather prominent at present, and there's some warmth from alcohol on the finish. The wine held up well overnight though, showing improved integration of wood and alcohol on day 2. I still find these two elements to be rather out of balance in this wine, though. Hold.

Pretty medium ruby color. Aromas balance dark currant and berries with earth, violet, stone and stem scents. There is just a hint of greenness here but its not unpleasant at all. Dry and savory in the mouth with earthy, mineral dominated flavors. The fruit is there and nicely formed but at this point taking a secondary role to the the mineral streak. Finish shows a touch of the nose's greenness and shows proper, chewy rusticity. Nice middle weight burg that should soften with 5 years or so in the cellar. For the $20/bottle I paid, a steal!

Popped and poured. No notes taken. This showed quite a bit of brett on the nose which scares me as I'm sitting on ~2 cases of this wine.

Much red fruit with some smoke and dirt. Silky smooth with ripe and round tannins adding a slight grip to the medium body.

Exactly as expected, nice acidic pinot noir with strawberries up front. A bit too expensive, but very easily-enjoyable.

This has really come along in the two years since I last tasted it. Much improved integration of wood and some nice development starting in at the corners. Still needs another 2-3 years, but it is approachable now with air.

@ Setai, decanted failed to open over 2 hour dinner. Restrained nose, tart, acidic, perhaps in the future. Thought it might be good value @ Setai's alleged "Bottleshock" price of $135 e.g only 2+x retail, vs there nrrmal list of $320, A RIDICULOUS $320 - 5X RETAIL!!!!
Village wine that can't compare to my single cru 02 Les Vaucrains.

Burghound's review was perfect: "An exceptionally pretty nose for a wine at this level with an earthy mix of red and black pinot fruit where the earth continues onto the round, delicious and relatively firm middle weight flavors underpinned by ripe tannins and fine length. This is a solid villages. (86-89)/2013+"
