Tasted blind. Pleasant rum raisin on the nose, leather. On palate, loads of plum, with leather and brett. Nice juicy acidity. Impressed that this is nearly a quarter-century old! Guessed it to be R bank bordeaux with lots of Cab franc, but surprised to see it's all Cab sauv and merlot. It's definitely thinning, so wouldn't store for any longer.

Dark ruby red with a mix of orange and pink rim. Blackberry, blackcurrant, cedar, pencil shaving, cigar box, tobacco and spices. Wine was initially muted and flat. After breathing for 3 hours in the bottle (no decanting), nose was open and filled with bold cedar and pencil shaving found in mature claret. Palate on the other hand, was on the feminine side, with weak fruits and soft/silky tannin.
In my opinion, this wine was at prime, with elements integrated to their optimal point. Any further cellaring might upset the delicate balance the wine had achieved at time of tasting.

10/15/23 Very pleasant. The 2000s are starting to show well. Nicely balanced soft tannins. Black fruits, slightly cedar. Good length. Drink but no need to rush. Good enough for family.

Very 2000 in that the colour is very deep, the fruit is plush and there is considerable extract. This was in magnum and felt like it would last another 10+ years easily. Should develop as at present only two dimensional. Impressive if a bit predictable.

Splendid! Lots of sediment that makes decanting a must. Nose does not offer a lot of hints on what will follow, but after a brief period of aeration, it is ready to drink. Would not suggest decanting any longer than 30 minutes before consumption. Initial palate presents with a light, aromatic olive note, followed immediately by ripe blackberry, pure dark chocolate bitterness that fades into a refreshing feel of toasted tobacco notes. Very tannic and astringent, aftertaste is punctuated by a touch of pepperiness in the throat, that is relieved by the indulgent firm bitterness of chocolate notes, which linger for a long time after each sip. Very complex, yet fairly smooth, with different flavors developing and varying intensities as it spent time in the glass. Seems to me to be near the zenith of its aging, but would recommend to drink now, as it definitely will go downward soon.

The beginning was very promising. The cork looked like from three-year-old wine, very little sediment, the color was closer to red than brown, the smell was simply fantastic.But...
No acidity no tannins, there are all flavors, but muted and quiet. To be clear, this wine is still highly drinkable, matter of fact - my wife likes it. Smell - wonderful aromas of tobacco, earth, red fruits, smoke. Perfect balance, where no one aroma is above others. But I expect more from 5th Growth Classé, especially, that 2000 year vintage was simply fantastic. But...I don't blame this wine I blame myself for laziness. If I would search more then one source I discovered then this wine in this particular year was not too much appreciated by wine critics. 89 points on average. This was delicious, showing tertiary characteristics now. A friend brought this over for a dinner party and I didn't know the producer at all. Turns out they’re a 5th growth in Haut Medoc, but relatively obscure. He double decanted it, and I believe he let it sit in the decanter for a few hours before he put it back in the bottle. The tannins are resolved and it's very smooth and elegant. It's not a mind-blowing Bordeaux, but we quite enjoyed it. I don't think it's going down, but I can't see it getting any better so if you own it, drink up. Not for those who love big, powerful, fruit forward wines.

Purchased from WineBid. Perfectly preserved cork, pristine bottle condition. Medium heavy sediment, lost 3-4oz to decanting. Fully resolved tannin and unmistakeably a Bordeaux. Leather, earth, tobacco, tar. There isn’t much fruit left here. Weak nose and short finish, but to expected from this level wine. For a Thursday night bottle I couldn’t ask for more. Only one more left in the cellar. Will be consumed sooner rather than later, not much upside potential.

Purchased upon release, color still dark, but a bit maroon. Old school for sure, and has some elegance. While there is still some life, there is a too much brett showing in this bottle for me. Did not go away after 2-4 hour either. Still barnyard and funk. I like a bit more purity, though some may find it interesting. Length and complete OK enough. One thing I can say, I had the 2009 vintage for this label, and it was pretty damn good for the buck. If you have this 2000, drink up, as I fear the brett will take over the fruit even more so. Seek out the 2009.

Marginally better than previous bottles, in that the "luxurious" oak has at last retreated into the mix, and that the fruit has now jammified into a reasonably attractive brambly ensemble, but there's not really enough fruit left to merit interest. The result is a fairly nondescript wine lacking grip and charm. Not bad enough to pour down the drain, not good enough to deserve praise. Boring.

Agree with one of the recent notes that this wine is fully mature but not past its prime. Bottle had a fair amount of sediment but we didn't decant for fear of over-aerating and losing flavor. Stood up bottle for an hour before opening, which was sufficient to clear up the wine and get most sediment to bottom. Flavors are very harmonious at this point, though the fruit has faded a bit, giving way to a savory palate of herbs, earth, leather. There's also a bit of crushed berry / cherry cola both on the nose and palate. Glad we have another bottle of this. We'll probably drink it within 1-2 years.

While fruit forward, I don't find this wine to be 'new world' in character all that much - well balanced, good structure, fantastic with food and good on its own (not all Bordeaux is) - great value.

I wasn't optimistic so I wasn't disappointed. Oak, vanilla and cinnamon on the nose, with a dollop of mocha. In the mouth, there is some red berry fruit in the background, but it is completely obscured by the oak and spices. It's drinkable and accompanies food quite adequately but this is a bad example of Camensac and of the 2000 vintage in general.

Even worse than the last one. Heavy aromas of oak, mocha and vanilla on the nose, much the same in the mouth, with only an inkling of redcurrants behind all the wood flavours. The finish is quite tannic and drying. This isn't my style of wine, but when it was younger it did have a certain attraction. Now it has none. Camensac did better before and has done better since, but this was an experiment in St.Julien wannabee winemaking that simply didn't work.

Typical deep ruby color of the 2000 vintage in Bordeaux - distinctive and beautiful. This wine has always been one of my favorite values of the vintage and unfortunately I am running low on stick. Classic black current fruit mixed with gravel - sweet, plump yet also refined. Right on now - good freshness but also some complexity. A hint of green peeking through. Lovely - to be drunk soon as I don't see it getting better and the green is getting a bit more pronounced. Nice wine for the money. (91)

Very disappointing. The fruit has faded, leaving the oak. Fine if you like your wine tasting of unsugared coffee, but that's not what I look for. Fans of La Tour Carnet might find tastes they like, but this is not for fans of Belgrave, Cantemerle or La Lagune, for example.

My third bottle - opened 4 years after the second. Ok. Everything has come together. Fruity palate, tannins resolved. My predictions for this wine were wrong. Love this. Nose of crushed rock, currant, licorice and vanilla/oak. A beautiful Bordeaux, especially for the price. Dark fruit and licorice on the palate with racy tannins follow through to a very nice finish, if not incredibly long. About the same on day 2 so probably not going to improve with more cellaring time.

Everything you could want from this wine. Cool, earth and cassis laden Bordeaux. It has entered its drinking window but should stay in a good place for the next ten years. Solid value and serious wine. Back in the early '00's, Bordeaux was THE value wine in the world. (89)

This is my first submission to Cellartracker. A well known wine publication said the 2000 Camensac was "Big...loads of concentration...impressive. Leave it for a long time...best after 2010." I disagree. I decanted for one hour. The wine had a somewhat gentle smoky nose. Very tannic, dusty mouthfeel. Quick finish, probably past prime. Nothing special here. Drink up now.

Bordeaux Left Bank 10 year evaluation; 5/2/2010-5/4/2010 (Detroit Lakes, MN): Performed amazingly well tasted blind for it's price level on par with wines three times more expensive. Drinking very well now but there are still a few tannins to resolve indicating it will last a few more years. Doubt much improvement coming as the finish drops off. Number 3 wine in flight 1.

In the glass this wine is a ruby red with a very light hint of pinkish orange at the rim. With scents of earth, mocha, licorice, black plums, and other dark fruits. In the mouth there is good acidity, finding balance with the tannins leading into milk chocolate, blueberries, plums, and black currant. Nice finish, soft and elegant...yet not very long. While this wine will probably smooth out a little more in the next year or so, it is ready to drink right now.

Gave this one an hour and half in the decanter. Took a taste at the open - nice explosion of fruit, but not in an over the top kind of way. Still a little rough with unresolved tannins. After the time in the decanter, the nose was not nearly as strong, more earthy than fruity. Mouthfeel was fine, but with time I think it will become more velvety and smooth. Nice dark fruit (black cherry, cassis and plum) with earth and a little leather. These are going to be good in another couple of years.

My second bottle this fall/winter confirms that IMHO this wine does not live up to the quality hinted in other users' tasting note. The wine is open and accessible - no doubt about that. And the nose displays notes of earth, pepper, tobacco, black fruit. Very nice and classic nose. Palate is a bit disappointing. Basically, there is a lack of fruit in response to the unresolved tannins. Although not herbal, mid palate is a bit thin with earth and leather, while finish is a bit too aggresive with too much pepper. I doubt that there is enough fruit for 5-8 years more in the cellar. Based on the bottles I have tasted, I would start drinking this wine. Maybe I will leave one bottle in the cellar to test the claims of other users...

Bordeaux Petits Chateaux 2000 @ my place (Netherlands): On the nose jammy cherryfruit, cassis, well-dosed oak, toasted. Still possesses a fair amount of youthful, slightly drying tannines. Nicely structured and filled with plummy fruit. Try again in 1 year. Nice. 16,5/20

Initially very good nose and taste, with some herbal elements. Faded a bit over the next 2 hours, but still a good wine. Not as exciting as these other CT notes ... but our bottle was bought from a collector, and not stored by us. So might be a bottle variation issue.

A light to medium-bodied Bordeaux. Drinking reasonably well at the moment, though tannins still persist. There was still a bit of an unpleasant greenness / earthiness to the nose that I seem to pick-up up off of young Bordeaux. My hope is that this will fade with time. I'll open up another bottle in a year to see how it is evolving

TB: Had next to 02 d'Armailhac and 03 Lynch-Bages. This bottle had been open approximately 12 hours. Black cherry in color, showing notes of plum and vanilla on the nose. Cherry came through on the palate. This was a well balanced wine with a long finish. Mine and the groups favorite of the flight. (03 Lynch was not decanted and too tight)

Inky dark purple in the glass. I decated a half bottle yesterday for 5 hours and was amazed how open the nose was for business. Tonight, I did not decant the remainder of the bottle that I had sealed under inert gas immediately yesterday. Big mistake...nose gives very little. On the palate, the wine was very tannic yesterday as much as it is today. Nice fruit though that is reinforced by tobacco and leather as well as cedar notes. Super long finish. The only thing I'm missing with this wine is the silky texture I was hoping for. Texture seems a bit clumsy. All in all, a very good $20 bottle of wine.

Decanted and serially tasted over a 5-hour period. Bright disc. Opaque purple robe with purple rim. Clean nose, initially showing coffee, caramel and similar toasted oak-induced aromas. At 90 minutes, black currants emerge. At the 4-hour point, mint, spice, chocolate and licorice aromas enter the picture. Medium to full-bodied on the palate, with medium acidity and large tannins which are somewhat coarse. Similar flavors as for the nose. The mid-palate hollows out somewhat, but this will likely fill in with further time in the bottle. Medium slightly hot/dry finish. Overall a nice showing for this chateau, which has clearly over-achieved in this great vintage. Time will be necessary, however, for the full enjoyment of this wine to be realized.

The result is a fairly nondescript wine lacking grip and charm. Not bad enough to pour down the drain, not good enough to deserve praise. Boring.

Still drinking beautifully. If you have any, I'd recommend drinking between now and 2017 - can see it potentially starting to fall off after that.

Camensac 2000 now has reached its peak: intensive color; nose ripe fruits and leather; taste still light fruity, buttery long finish. Drink now until 2017

Nose displays notes of earth, pepper, tobacco, black fruit. Classic palate with black berries, earth and leather. medium bodied. A very nice surprise.
