Friday BBQ (Chicago, IL): Fully mature, slightly funky, but nevertheless correct. A bit sweet from the fruit, but the palate is soft and clearly fading. More interesting than good.

Dinner at Hermosa (Chicago, IL): Consistent with my most recent prior bottle -- this is light and definitely shows its age, but there is still a lovely rustic, herbal edge to this wine. Soft and fully resolved, best to drink up now.

No bad wines, only bad bottles. 1984 has to be one of the worst ever vintages in France (can't think of anywhere that did well), but this bottle is pretty damn good. Mature, with some woodsy notes on the nose and a hint of pyrazine. The palate isn't too complex or concentrated, but shows a nice ripe fruit character with good acid balance and fully resolved tannins. Finishes watery though. A very nice 1984.

A monolith, but hardly a bad one. Age hasn't brought this much complexity, but at the same time it hasn't put a dent in this wine's hard armor of dense flavor and structure, expressed in an amazingly primary profile of boysenberry and blackcurrant.

Subtilt med vissa Bdx-drag och åldertecken som cederträ och sousbois men fortfarande hyfsat pigg frukt. Riktigt bra.
