  • PNP into Mark Thomas Double Bend glass (“Root” day): Medium orange golden to the eyes.

Ripe and mature stone fruits like apricots that is extraordinarily detailed and authentic. Some notes of citrus like yuzu and blood oranges too. Even some faint hints of mushroom and a little sulphuric like a top flight Speyside whisky. With time more floral and earthy spices too. Super complex and yet has the signature “gentle” feel that this domaine possess.

More about minerality than acidity at this stage, very rich for this vintage indeed and very enjoyable now. What a great combination of complexity and elegance.

No need to wait longer and a great wine with food. Easily 95 points to my standards.

About 1/3 left: significantly up on the finish complexity and length. Even more lightfooted on palate but without any compromise on flavour intensity. This really shows the material that this wine really has. Wow! 95-96 points to me now.

  • Not far from perfect. Very well kept the bottle delivering a pristine wine that needed air and time to unleash all its potential. Textbook, fine Montrachet. Less exuberant than the 2001 but definitely a classy one.

  • Montrachet 94 - deep gold colour with intense earthy, meat aromas, ripe tropical fruits, truffles. Palate rich, fresh, great level of maturity that should be kept there for still some long years.

  • Light golden color. Nose quite reticent. Quite chewy in the mouth. Good acidity but certainly lacked a bit of richness and complexity at this stage. Still quite tight even after 15 mins of decanting. Breeding is definitely there though.
