  • Millions of peaches, peaches for me, millions of peaches, peaches for free, LOOK OUT! Seriously was the best peaches juice I've ever had. Peaches and honey from start to finish, and the finish made it through at least a couple verses of the song. The body was excellent from start to finish, thick in a creamy way. Mouth coating but with enough acidity that it didn't feel unctuous. Excellent bottle!

  • Prior bottle was almost 19 months ago and this bottle was a step above that one. White orchard fruits and citrus at first, but as it opens up, golden apple, golden peach and a light honey note on the nose. Not sure if I got the temperature more correct this time or if this was simply a more advanced bottle. Medium bodied with white peach upfront, moving to yellow apple and golden peach through the middle, but backed with excellent citrus qualities and tart notes. The mid-body shows excellent richness and depth, a step above my prior bottle, while retaining the backside structure. The result is a wine that comes off as clean and expressive as the white fruit notes work so well with the more yellow/gold qualities. And the fact that the acidity, citrus and other tart notes have held up so well continue to exemplify Graacher Himmelreich as it shows a touch more evident structure and a touch less richness than a Wehlener Sonnenuhr. Overall, the increased complexity alone justifies the bump in score. Should continue to drink well for many years ahead.

  • This is lovely. Electric gold. Nose is bursting with ripe grapy fruit mixed with beginning petrol, fresh pear and barely ripe mango. The palate has started to mature yet retains some zesty tactile elements. The mid palate is pretty sweet with some richness. The flavors are pure and sunny. Creamy texture. Maybe finishes a bit shorter than the best. Should drink beautifully for another 20 years. Like this a bunch. (93)

  • Medium yellow gold in color. Aromatic nose shows ripe peach, kiwi, mangosteen, citrus blossoms, herbs, florals and minerals. Stellar palate follows through with delicacy and richness, with creamy citrus, honey suckle, herb poached tropical fruits, superb acidity aligned with the sweetness that shows an energetic and endlessly long finish. Mosel 'fruity' wine at its finest.

  • Beautiful bouquet with mineral impressions and some petrol. On the palate beautiful and delicious acidity nicely balanced by elegant sweetness. Very beautiful wine and probably for at least another decade :).

  • Gold color. Orchard fruit and no petrol aroma. Canned pear syrup and honey for days. Sweet. Really, really gorgeous. Aging wonderfully. 94

  • Deep golden color. Pronounced nose of orange marmalade, baked apple, honeysuckle, candied apricot, and a touch of petrol. Similar flavors on the palate with a ripe stone fruit and citrus profile along with some honeyed notes but all balanced by excellent acidity so it drinks refreshing for a wine this sweet. Long finish. Excellent bottle of wine and paired great with hard cheeses and some fresh local honeycomb.

  • Honey, trace marmalade and orange peel. Very nice

  • Raised cork that predictably resulted in oxidation. Was still excellent but the acidity was gone and it had evolved into a sort of low alcohol liquer state. Lots of sugar, syrupy, and some cork that gradually disappeared. I have a 2005 Prum with the same raised cork issue...

  • Very aromatic nose showing white peach, tart citrus and an almost smokey mineral quality. Medium bodied (7.5% ABV) with white peach upfront showing both high-toned brightness and deeper, more rounded depths. Mid-body adds an almost red apple quality along with more tart pear notes and slightly richer peach. There's good density here, but no overt sweetness (just density and richness) or tropical qualities. These fruits are backed were very good acidity which is almost vibrant still after almost 14 years. Along with the citrus notes, these provided good overall balance. It's in a great spot now, but should be able to hold this level for a number of years. Next bottle for me will be July or November 2022.

  • So my hand was forced with this one. I was reshuffling my cellar yesterday and I noticed that this bottle, pretty much a treasure bottle for me, due both to what it is and to the fact that it’s signed by Dr. Prum herself, was seeping by the cork and full of sticky, dried wine, so I decided to open it, perhaps a decade before schedule.

The cork pretty much crumbled and even an ah-so couldn’t prevent half of it from falling right into the wine. I decided strain the whole thing into a clean swing top bottle and serve it from there.

Luckily, the wine didn’t seem negatively affected in any way: Pours deep golden yellow. On the nose, melon and red apples. The palate is a beauty of texture and concentration. Apple, honeysuckle and yuzu up front over a background of orange pith and maybe a bit of ginger. Ridiculous complexity. Finish is super long: You feel like you just ate slices of juicy fresh apple that were sprinkled with lemon juice.

I had the last bottle 8 years ago, and to be honest, I don't think it's changed much at all. I just have a better vocabulary and more experience now.

Beautiful but still, a bit of a baby killing.

  • Yellow colour with a Golden tone,

Rich aroma of (honey) melon and citrus, not tropical as other tasting notes suggest.

The wine hits in front of the mouth and is very rich and long lasting, with very nice concentration. Quite sweet on the palate, but with very good acidity. The flavour resembles honey and lemon.

A very nice Mosel, sadly my only bottle.

  • Originally purchased this bottle in December of 2008. Very nice light gold color. Not nearly as sweet as I was expecting. Wish I would have bought a case back then.

  • Light gold color. Drank several glasses over 90 minutes. We've been drinking these '07's for a long time now - going back to 2011 and I hadn't had one for a couple years. They were beautiful then and they're beautiful now without much perceptible evolution. Wonderful fruit and complexity, tropical fruits, peach, apple, pineapple, fusil, wet stones. These are ripe and lush with great texture and the acids work nicely to balance the sweetness. Always a treat. I suppose I have to manage to save some for another 10 years anyway. That could pose a challenge.

  • Simply delicious. Old school Auslese from a ripe year yet feels lighter than many spatlese. Everything in perfect proportion. I have tons of Prum but wish I had more of this one.

  • A very nice, crisp style for a JJP auslese . Lighter and less floral/tropical fruit and flower driven than the Wehlener. For my taste, while this bottle is quite nice with scallops or cheese now, I like Mosel auselsen at 15-20years minimum. The Graacher is creamy, with an almost grainy sense of sugar seeking another 5 years to integrate. There are secondary flavors aching to express in the future so I would hold and look at 2001 and earlier for now.

  • Flat out sexy and drinking beautifully at 10 years. So clean and fresh, with impeccable balance between sweetness and acid riding on that river of minerality. Great stuff!

  • Tasted during a matter of taste walkabout, so only brief impressions. Great minerality, precision and acidity. This is a Auslese at its best.

  • Wow! Aroma exploded out of the bottle on the pull of the cork - tropical fruit, citrus, honey.... all the best things about Prüm. It was a pleasant surprise to be this open at this relatively young stage for an Auslese. The palate echoed the nose. It just coats your mouth with a texture that's not quite unctuous but does have a little viscosity to it. Tropical fruits and honey hit you for a second, then citrus takes over, and gradually fades back to tropical fruit and melon on a VERY long finish. You can still taste it after a couple minutes, and this is all happening just after the pop of the cork. A half hour later, the nose got slightly stronger and the acidity became just a little more prominent, which balanced out the sweetness nicely.

  • Gary's Mini BBQ Ribs Event (Judith's House, WI): Light gold color. Drank 1 glass with dessert. A very refreshing way to end the evening. Still showing well. Great nose with florals, tropical fruits, pineapple, passion fruit, citrus, modest fusil. On the palate this resonates nicely, very good acid and ripe, pretty tropical and citrus fruits, layered, long and fresh. This was my and group #2 WOTN.

  • This wine is so utterly elegant! What a feast! In the bouquet smoke, minerals and a pleasant dose of petrol. On the palate honey and melon, beautiful sweetness and perfect acidity. All in perfect harmony. This is an auslese alright, but not fat or bombastic in any way; only elegance and complexity. For me this is a 95 point wine! Love it!!! Completely ready now and a feast, but it can probably last at least another decade.

  • Monthly Tasting Group: Rieslings and Thai Food (Mpls, MN): Pale gold color. Light nose, sweet, but good tart fruits, grapefruit, citrus, a touch sharp today. Not quite as good as previous bottles.

  • Light nose, very fresh, clean, floral with some petrol. Big acid - makes your tongue and the inside of your mouth tingle, and an impressive depth of fruit is on you right away. Mouth-watering. Lots of power, very good balance, nice long finish.

  • Honeycomb, pear, white floral notes, a hint of petrol, wet rock and mineral notes on the nose. Stone fruit, sweet apple and pear flavors on the palate along with some nice minerality. Blast of acidity on the palate with a big mouthfeel and long, sweet finish. This wine has a long life ahead of it but is delicious now as well.

  • Jan's Birthday of "No Particular Significance" (Rocknroller's (Kevin & Vicki's Place)): Light gold color. PNP from 375ml, drank a 2oz pour with dessert. I can't believe its been two years sine we had this. Very aromatic and floral on the nose, vanilla, citrus, pineapple, lime, mineral. The palate is lively and tart, passion fruit, pineapple, lime, citrus, nice balance of sweet and acid. Tasty.

  • The Wehlener Sohnenur from a couple of weeks ago was slow to open up and was dense and creamy. This one is completely different: Right out the gate it's fully open for business. Aroma are of honeysuckle and... kiwi? framed by the faintest hint of petrol. The acidity is quite intense and immediate, not the slow buildup of the Wehlener. Finish is also a bit drier. I'd say this one is a better food wine based on the fact on its immediate power of putting out the fire of spicy food. It's more linear, clear and piercing.

  • Light golden color. Intense nose of petrol and turpentine along with ripe peaches, honey and candied apricots. The petrol blew off slightly after being aired out in the glass for about 20 mins. Layers of flavor on the palate with stone fruits, honeycomb, white floral notes, wet stone, minerals and a touch of slick petrol. Medium+ acid on the palate but not ripping and a palate coating mouthfeel. Long, sweet finish. This was really a treat and will continue to evolve over time. I am looking forward to my remaining 2 bottles for sure.

  • My first bottle of the '07 G.H. Auslese. I loved the moderate petrol and acetate on the nose which never really blew off. Flinty and acidic texture, but balanced nicely by the sweetness and layers of rich fruit. Ripe pears, peach skin, slates, and slight caramelized. Tiny bit of spritz. JJP never seems to disappoint.

  • Riesling Rampage (Asquith, Australia): Given a good decant but still took time in the glass to open up and even then it was all minerals and chalk with faint citrus fruit. The palate has delicious richness and exceptional length. Screams potential but needs time.

  • 8-hour decant wasn't enough to blow off the sulpher, but was pleasant enough at that stage. An elegant auslese, however confirmed my thoughts that the higher pradikat 2007's are shutting down. This one was tight and cranky. Don't touch for at least two years.

  • Monthly Tasting Group: Rieslings and Thai Food (Tum Rup Thai, Mpls): Pale gold color. Drank 1 glass over 1 hour. I fully admit I am a fool for this wine. I love it. It has an intoxicating nose of tropical fruits, fresh flowers, minerals, honey, peaches, a touch of fusil. This just explodes on the palate, vibrant, fresh flavors, great depth, layers of lush fruits. Wonderful balance of sweetness and acid, very long finish. Wow, just a baby and so approachable now. It is hard to keep your hands off this wine. My WOTN.

  • Opened 30 minutes prior to tasting. Opened as part of a Prum night along with 3 other '07 JJ Prum rieslings. Light golden color with the faintest hint of green. Lively aromas of citrus fruits, peaches, petrol, green apples, and honey. More of the same on the palate with great intensity marked by good minerality and acidity, and a persistent sweet finish. Excellent, though this seemed a little disjointed. This needs more time in bottle, but don't let that stop you.

I didn't give this my full attention at the time so it's not scored but my gut says 91-92 (actually my gut says "open another")

  • 2007 and 2009 Joh. Jos. Prums (PJ Wines, New York City): A bit tropical, with some tangy apricots -- but this is not heavy. Lifted flavors of lemons and limes, slate and hints of petrol add complexity. Hints at a bit of Botrytis. Serious stuff.

  • Medium gold color. Nose is vibrant with fresh lemons, orange peel, pineapple, flinty minerals, florals, subtle fusil and peach notes. This just explodes on the palate with layers of bright citrus fruits, pineapple and other tropicals, peaches, zesty acidity. The palate shows great concentration, balance and a long luxurious finish. Very complex. Wow, this is just so pleasurable to drink right now. As a side note, I found this bottle more citrus driven with a significant tropical infusion than peach or melon.

  • Mixed Bag of Wines (Kevin's House): Another great Prum with minerals, petrol, peach and tropical fruit. Over time the petrol blew off and the ripe fruits emerged. Medium and full of flavor finish. Drink now and enjoy the ripe fruits or hold for secondary charcter.

  • Mixed wines at impromptu mini-offline (Rocknroller's (Kevin's)): Medium gold color. Great nose, with peaches, apricots, honey, perfume, florals, fusil and mineral. The fruit is dazzling on the palate, adding citrus to the peaches and apricots from the nose, mineral, fusil, viscous in the mouth, acidity is good, long fruit driven finish. This is outstanding, great balance, and the sense that more is in store down the road.

  • Hard to understand at this point in it's development but shows great potential as the acid is present and the fruit balanced. I was pleasantly surprised by the light body.

  • Light yellow color in the glass, crystal clear. Nose of
cyser, pitted fruit, and sweet rose. Flavors of sweet "cherry aid" and more peaches. The body was light and well balanced with great acidity. I would hold for at least another 5 - 10 years before I drink another. Matched with a thai basil coconut chicken and grilled pablanos.

  • Big nose of chives, candied peach, and persimmon. There is a vein of acidity that breaks up the richness nicely. Still way too young to fully show itself; I'll hold my last bottle a long time.

  • very fresh and fruity, with nose of plastic and candied pomelo rind. The wine is rich and smooth now, sweet (as auslese should be) but with good acidity.

  • WIML91-92

Tasted September 5, 2009 at a retail tasting.

Light yellow color in the glass, clear hue throughout. Nose of fertilizer, apricot, peach with a bit of earthiness. Flavors of orange cream, sweet cherry and a bit of lychee. Medium to bright acidity, light to medium body. Drink or hold.

  • Decanted four hours... Harmonious balance between sweetness, acidity, and mineral... Ethereal, pure, and feminine wine. Concentration is deceptive right now because there's so much lift, but will no doubt come out of its shell a lot more.
