Some years ago now with friends and family for christmas. From a 3l bottle this was stunning. Still young looking colour, complex nose with the typical Bollinger barrel fermented nose. Warm vintage of 1997 does not show. Good acidity and very long.

Champagne Evening (Beverly-Bietigheim): Glass: Zalto Universal Tasted blind. Clear, deep golden color. Reductive, yeasty nose, some barn and leather. Not very appealing, got a bit better with air. On the palate it really rocks! Wonderful tension and pressure! Fine, present mousseux, bone dry, salty. Beautiful balance and joyful to drink. Very long finish. Palate for sure 95-96, Nose at max 90, so for me this bottle was something around 93-94

Añada madura, acidez y citricos. 65% Pinot Noir, 35% Chardonnay. Burbuja integrada, goloso, evolucionado y listo para beber. Pasó bastante desaparcibido al lado de los otros dos monstruos.

Golden in color, Nose of brioche, overripe red apple, caramel, slightly nutty/oxidized. Palate with nice acidity, again nutty/oxidized, then red apple, lemon peel, and minerality. Finish of lemon curd followed by some spice (fennel?).

I was unable to find this bottle back in 2015 and assumed that I'd drunk it.
When I had a bottle of Nyetimber Blanc de blancs 2003 delivered from storage, I opened the gift-box to find my final long-lost bottle of Bollinger RD 1997! I knew that this would be at best, at the very end of its drinking window.
This was a beautiful gold in colour. On the nose there was a musty whiff of dead bodies that did, in time, give way to nuts and old furniture. The palate continued in a similar vein with old apples and some sherry notes. This was an extremely enjoyable bottle but if you have any of these stashed away, I would start drinking them fairly promptly.

Dinner at Sushi Kondo (Sushi Kondo, Sentosa Golf Club, Singapore): Lovely - this was pure Bolly, and very much on form. The nose had lovely shades of toasty brioche, yeast and red apples, laced with a bit of sweet caramel, and then just that hint minerality. Such a warm, inviting bouquet. The palate was lovely too, if not quite as full and compelling as the nose, with bright acidity and a firm mousse - surprising for a 1997 - wrapped around ripe, but juicy flavours of apples and lemons, and a lovely minerallity stretching away into a juicy citrus and spice finish. Delicious stuff, drinking very nicely now. Not the most complete, nor the most powerful RD - which could be a vintage thing - but this was fresh, delicious and and absolutely at peak. Yum.

1987 Champagne and some more: Disgorged 03.09.2008. Fat as well as GA of the same vintage, but much much softer on the palate - melting fluid on the palate. Seems, that it also has lower accidity. Full bodied, mild oxidative character. Superb. Loved it.

From magnum. Quite dark and evolved in colour. On the nose lovely richness, yeasty, notes of red apples, lemon peel, minerality. On the palate quite precise and fresh, notes of citrus and yellow stone fruit, minerality. Great balance. Very lively and long. Drink or keep. 93-95

Some Champagnes: Less dosage than the GAs, fresher, less oxidative. Deep and complex nose, alas not so impressive in the mouth. Demands attention, and although lighter on its feet than the GA, it is still full bodied and slightly oxidative.

I took notes but I lost them. This wasn't as I expected. As late disgorged wines can evolve quickly it shouldn't be a surprise that this was very different to the tight bottle I had 18mths ago.
There was a certain nuttiness on the nose but what stood out was the intense red apple on the palate with an acute toastiness. I remember noting down some other flavours (custard at one point) but this was more of a classic champagne than I usually get with RD. I planned to pair this with a mushroom risotto and walnuts but I actually think that this vintage could work on its own.
As late disgorged wines age quickly, it can be hard to know how each bottle will taste, so it's best to approach each one with an open mind and have more than one food match to hand.

OoooK (sarcasm). So this in the drink up category, strangely flat looking and quite dark goldish in the glass but still has fizz when drunk in the mouth. So, not flat. The taste is good, old champagne, bit more complex with good acidity. But, I guess I still feel it is really too expensive for what it is. If you think of how you might have spent the 200 bucks on something else; i think it could have been better spent on something else (like really good sauterne).

Disgorged 3. septembre 2008 Rather reticent at first on the nose. Opens up to deliver lemon curd, golden apple and tart strawberries as well as cream, florality, meat, fennel, brioche and almonds. Medium bodied palate with crispy acidity, mid-intense moussé, fruit leaning from apples and strawberries to peaches. Slight bitter touch from mid-palate on with notes of vanilla, cream, shellfish and nuts. Long. Seemed pretty young. I'd cellar this for a decade before opening another. Or maybe proper decanting could open this up. Good stuff - no doubt.

Naso maturo, leggermente ossidato, caramella d'orzo, sottobosco, crema pasticciera e tostatura. Bocca affilata e lunga, sapida con bollicina delicata e raffinata. Molto lungo.

The RD variant is an interesting twist from a standard vintage or NV champagne. Very pronounced yeasty nose with a quite tangy, citrusy palate experience. Lingering, slightly off-putting and droll aftertaste is not up to the standard I'd expect from a typical prestige cuvée of a Grande Marque house, though, so I'm not sure exactly what the RD is getting us. This aftertaste becomes quite pronounced with about 20 minutes of air, turning a bit nasty. I definitely prefer Bollinger's Grande Année from a good year.

12% alc. 65% Pinot Noir, 35% Chardonnay. 75% Grands Crus and 25% Premiers Crus. Nutty, deep aromas lie behind lifted notes of hyacinth. Total equilibrium on the nose. The palate demonstrates signature oxidative style of Bollinger, which is magnified by the density and richness of baked apple and nutty flavours which are however supported by invigorating citrus freshness. Perfect distribution of weight on the palate, followed by a full finish, deep and lingering, with mineral notes. A classy Champagne with a remarkable integration of flavours. Tasted at home

Much more on the nose here than the 2000 GA (unsurprisingly), quite caramelly and honeyed, ripe and evolved. Bruised apples and autolytic character; very oxidative in character on the palate. Hints of toasty spice and oak. Good but needs drinking.

The nose is very powerful : buttery wholegrain bread toast, nuttiness, yellow fruits.... The stand-out caracteristc of this Champagne is really the balance between such an opulent nose and full bodied flavours and a vibrant acidity... The very low dosage (4,5g of residual sugar) gives the wine a great frame... In the end, quite an approachable RD that can be cellared or drunk while you're waiting to uncork the 1996 RD which is FAR more superior IMHO.
