Dinner w/Val and Rowena at home, last bottle of this was in 2020. Decanted for about 30 minutes prior to drinking. Mild sediment strained, last notes indicated much more.
Notes from 2020:" Deep ruby color. Powerful nose of red fruits and dark berries, baking and Christmas spice. Rich and viscous palate, liqueur like quality. Showing red berry preserves, blackberry, orange zest, cola, mulberry and spice. Persists through the mid palate into a layered finish. Great depth throughout..."
Hasn't changed much, still rich and expressive. Dark berries and baking spices notable on this tasting.
Decant still a must, this bottle opened faster than the last (from notes). Ready to go in about 30 minutes. Checked my inventory, I bought this in 2011 for about $50...great value, wine still going strong with a long arc ahead of it. However...worth opening now.

PNP at "The Girl and the Fig" in Sonoma. No formal notes, just another great bottle! here's my note from 5 years ago:
10/21/2017 rated 95 points: PHMG WAG: the '07 Chateauneufs (Old Home of the Lyon): WOTN #2, this had bigger black fruit in layers, then iron, pepper, cocoa, and herbs. Perhaps 60:40 fruit to savory ratio. Now-2019. (2331 views)
Obviously got the window wrong! now-2025

Twin Cities Wine Club no US Wines (Edina, MN): 55% Grenache, 30% Syrah, and 15% Mourvèdre. Some sediment that was strained off. Burnt toast, spice, pepper, leather, raspberries and dried herbs. Medium plus finish and very rustic. For sure at its peak experience and drink now for sure.

More than six years have passed since last tasting this skillfully crafted blend of 55% Grenache, 30% Syrah, and 15% Mourvèdre. From a bottle that was purchased upon release and cellared under pristine conditions, it was decanted off of its heavy sediment and serially sampled over the ensuing 3-4 hours. Now deep garnet in color, it serves up a complex package of dark bramble fruits that are garnished with Provençal herbs, cocoa, mulling spices, cigar tobacco, cecina and black olive tapenade. At this point the wine is medium-bodied, brushing off its youthful muscle in favor of a more round physique. While still freshly acidic and without heat from its 14.5% alcohol, the tannins have significantly softened, lurking quietly in the background. Dense on the mid-palate and concluding with impressive length, this Châteauneuf has fleshed out as anticipated. Those holding comparably cellared bottles will be delighted whenever a cork is popped over the next five years. At this stage it only requires 30-60 minutes in decanter to fully strut its stuff. Drink now-2027.
Beautiful dark chocolate, fig and earth on the palate. The nose has a touch of white pepper mixed with smoke. Tannins are velvety smooth. PnP with no worries here.

Very dark. Oxidation apparent on the nose and in the mouth. Despite this, the dark fruit is attractive in although slightly figgy. Alcohol is there if you look for it.

Wow. Helt i balans.

This '07 CdP was really singing tonight. It showed little sign of age except well integrated flavors and medium resolving tannins. Has all the typical flavors of a great CdP that went great with our grilled lamb burgers.

4th Saturday Group (M&R's): Double blind. Dark core with some bricking- another older bottle based on all appearances. Aromas of dark fruit, bouillon and stewy fruit. Black fruit on the palate with a lingering finish. Ripe and stewy/plummy. No guess.
Showing no CndP character, other than the ripe stewy garbage that is 2007. Ugh. (R&D)
Pours a dark cloudy purple with notes of red raspberry compote on the nose. The palate has dense, sweet red fruit backed up by savory notes of soy and leather. As the last reviewer noted, it definitely has a mature quality, but with a nice balancing acidity giving promise of more years ahead, but with the savory notes taking the wheel in the future.

Wow, this was terrific. Easter dinner with grilled lamb chops. Previous notes describe it well; particularly the thick, rich, long and viscous palate with plenty of secondary notes to go with the primary fruit. Tannins very mild and smooth; probably at peak but by no means over the hill and probably good for a few more years. Had a very nice $50ish Washington state Syrah open from last night and while I liked it, didn't come close to this.

Awesome bottle as usual. Needs to be decanted for sediment approx 45 minutes prior. Plenty of cellaring potential although doubt this will improve much.

Brought to the Blue Bottle with Val and charlotte...First bottle if this wine from the 07 vintage. Decanted through vinituri and rebottled to bring to the restaurant. Fair amount of sediment, wine was open for 45 minutes before drinking, drank over 2+ hours.
Deep ruby color. Powerful nose of red fruits and dark berries, baking and Christmas spice. Rich and viscous palate, liqueur like quality. Showing red berry preserves, blackberry, orange zest, cola, mulberry and spice. Persists through the mid palate into a layered finish. Great depth throughout.
The wine improved substantially after the decant, when first opened it was showing a fair amount of heat and a quick taste did not reveal any of the spice characteristics we got later. Its a big wine to be sure and I have discovered the 07 vintage is not for everyone. This was a fantastic showing, the wine is still young (IMO) and will likely settle with more cellar time if wanting to wait. Worth trying now, decant of an hour+ is a must to get this to really show...
Peu tenir encore longtemps. À partager à plusieurs personne idéalement car devient un peu lourd si + d'une coupe.

At 13 years of age and a 30-minute decant, this still carries youthful exuberance with lively acidity that lifts the ripe dark cherry and blackberry fruits. Secondary flavors of licorice, dark chocolate and leather are more prominent and savory. Finishes long and lively with tertiary flavors of terra-cotta pots, bay leaf and black pepper that are more pronounced compared to first tasting. Amazing wine made from a legendary vintage. This is drinking beautifully now and should continue to do so until 2032.

Geeez this is good. Owned it since release but this was the first bottle. Starts off with a light nose of the classic CDP funk and earth that I just love and is quickly followed by wonderful aged grenache fruit. On the pallet, it is ripe but not overly so. Complex with some leathery components starting to form, and still has a soft grip. Excellent. Fantastic value if you can find some with a few years left before the fruit starts to become overripe.
Blackberries & other dark berries aroma & flavors. Nicely balanced on acidity & alcohol. Smooth. Sorry it's my last one. Liking the 2005 & 2007 CDPs at this time.

Nice, supple CdP. Lots of bleach cherrie and plum. Hints of graphite. This is a great wine starting to hit its stride. Should age well for another 5 to 10 years at least.

Stunning. This really impresses, especially since I considered giving most of my CdPs away. Beautiful blackberry fruit, with some plummy compitiendo. Nice hint of Asian 5 spice, smoke along with curing charcuterie. Impress, until it gets too warm. High ABV so it’s best served at cellar temperature.

A whiff of mustiness as the cork is extracted, so I wiped the inside of the bottle. One sniff of the poured glass indicates this is corked, with dark cherry fruit showing through. It tastes much better with sweet, dark, jammy fruit. It is softening but not mature. Delicious, juicy despite the malodour.

Fruity, nice complexity came through as opened. Went very well on its own at dinner and with all various courses throughout. Opened 1 hour prior to breathe. Delicious, hint of sweet, medium body, but drank somewhat lighter than. Decent amount of either sediment or cork erosion must watch for though, stood upright 36 hours prior, and on open a careful cleaning of the glass rim and inside down to the wine was in order. Found (2) bottles in 2018 for $50 each and worth every penny. Holding last one for 2020, not to improve, but not going anywhere fast either.

4th Saturday Brown Bagger (Our house): Double blind. Ripe dark fruit bordering on raisiny with a bouillon undertone. There's a bit of peppery spice in there too. Plum, raisin, dark fruit and spice on the palate, which is relatively thin. Overly ripe. This had its fans, but it really didn't do anything for me. No guess.

Blood red in color. 15.5% ABV. Brooding nose of black fruits, tar, soy and anise. Immense and concentrated. Exceptionally well balanced. Kirsch liqueur, garrigue, unami and herbs on the palate. Tremendous length on the finish. For me there is a little validation here that the 07's just need some time in the cellar still. Excellent CdP with a long life ahead of it. Drink over the next 5-7 years.

This was really nice in a PnP last night. No bret or feeling of high ABV and the medicinal notes from earlier bottles has completely resolved. One of the more interesting bottles last night. Great fruit, some nice meaty notes, spices and the garrique wasn’t totally out of control. Just a lovely wine from 2007 that I’m glad I bought and better than the Pegau I had earlier this year. 92+. Recommended.

Blackberry and cassis with a smooth stone finish with a touch of forest. It improves in the glass and is better than when previously tasted. It may even unwind a bit more over the next couple of years.

I think this wine is in its plateau of maturity and it’s a well integrated full flavored wine with good concentration, some minerals, and deep plummy fruit.it should still last quite a while.
Opened about 3 hours ahead of time but not decanted. Powerful black fruit and herbs on the nose with a taste to match - turned up to eleven. Quite a bit of heat from the alcohol though (the 15,5% was noticeable) and while it was showing some maturity I think it would benefit from at least another 3-5 years with hopes of better integration.

Decanted 1 hour, two small glasses consumed alongside steaks & home fries over 1 hour or so. Dense, forward but slightly disjointed structure, a little heat showing, dark-fruited with some pepper and dust but somehow all a bit muted. I am pretty sure I detected just a hint of TCA as this opened up, but everyone else was enjoying the bottle, so I kept my suspicion to myself. Calling this one flawed, if just very slightly so...alas. Purchased upon release.

Deep, dark garnet in color with ever-so-slight clearing at the edges. Full, forward & attractive nose of ripe fruit aromas of blackberries, dark cherries & garrigue overtones with Provençal herbs, earthy/dusty, minerals, spice notes of pepper, licorice & a hint of oak in the background. Medium-full bodied with a very good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, ripe fruit flavors of blueberries, dark cherries & plums with spices, minerals, herbs & a hint of toasty oak. Lingering finish. Drinks quite well at present & may be at or close to its peak of development at 10 years of age. Although it has the fruit & structure to hold onto this plateau for several more years, it is not going to significantly develop any further with additional aging.

On opening this was not offering up much aromatically. This needed about 90 minutes to open up, offering lavender, leather, and menthol notes. On the palate this has good acidity, but there was some heat that made the wine less enjoyable for me. Black fruits, iron notes, pepper, and very dry tannin. This has good length on the finish but the heat detracts from this being more elegant.
Not a great bottle experience for me on day 1. Half the bottle to be stored and consumed on day 2.
Day 2 - Largely consistent notes from day 1 including the heat that persisted. Concentrated black fruits with pronounced pepper.
My overall assessment is this bottle did not have the complement of aroma and flavor I have experienced with prior Sixtine wines. This seemed to forsake balance and elegance for concentration and alcohol.

One of the rougher more masculine CdP's we have had from the '07 vintage; definitely not a Beaucastel. With that being said, it was quite enjoyable with our lollipop lamb chops due to its dry dusty dark red fruit, super spicy mid-palate, that was showing a clove component, and the very dry finish that really balanced out the fat in the lamb.

This one has come together nicely and I think it at peak. Another couple of years and then it'll start to fade. Right now, great balance of fruit and earth, with bits of crushed pencil in there somehow. But certainly the nice deep stripe of red fruit you want in a CdP.

Châteauenuf-du-Pape 2007 - ten years after (chez moi): The high alcohol has turned into a bit of a medicine-cabinet here, but there is a lightness to the wine, that is promising - maybe after a bit of air; ok on day 2, but tight as a drum, still. Not crazy about this, but not as bad, as they say.

This big, chewy, deep ruby red (a blend of 55% Grenache, 30% Syrah, and 15% Mourvèdre) was decanted off its substantial sediment and serially tasted over the ensuing three hours. Rich, ripe and complex, it only lacks in age. Youthful dark bramble fruits, garrigue, pipe tobacco and mocha aromas are followed by similar flavors on a freshly acidic, seamlessly alcoholic (14.5%) palate with plentiful tannins and flavors mirroring the nose. The middle is dense and the finish, albeit a bit astringent, seems to go on and on. Although this tasting constituted infanticide, I am quite confident that those holding bottles of this impressive wine will be rewarded by a little bit of patience. With such patience, this will quite likely deserve an even higher score. Drink 2018-2027.
Decanted 2+ hours. Drank alongside a 2009 Cuvee du Vatican (non-reserve). They both have similarities. The fruit in this wine is so much more integrated and velvety, and overall is exceptionaly balanced and smooth drinking. This was clearly everyone's favorite. Still quite youthful and has many more great drinking years ahead.

I love this wine. Intense berries and licorice. Everybody always says "berries" (berries this, berries that, blah, blah, blah), but pour this into a glass, let it sit for about 30 minutes, and then just try to not get berries. You can't.
This wine is sexy, but rustic. It's complex, but modern. This is a wine you can be proud to serve and honored to drink. Once again, "there is no place like Rhone." Magnificent.

Dark cool fruits, velvety and smooth. God tannic grip, medium minus acidity. Still big and bold but not bragging. More rustique than elegant with some notes of development, graphite and liqorice. I belive this can lay down many more years for complexity - I am impressed.
Excellent match to our rustique roasted shoulder of lamb!
This is really just textbook good CdP - not the drama and length of some of the more premium labels but rich, smooth and spot-on typicity. It's aging famously and will continue to evolve for ten years in a perfect cellar.

Decanted for 1 hour, although it needs more at this stage. We really enjoy this wine right now for it power and youthfulness, exhibiting classic CdP flavor components. The nose become much more expressive as it opens up. Rich dry dark plums and prune fruit that is most dominant, almost a cherry cola flavor. The dark fruit plays well into the black pepper and earthty middle. A lovely granache dry finish with tannins that are still working themselves out. Sit on this wine for 5+ more years if you can (doubt we can).

Dark ruby-garnet turning violet at the rim with a nose of luscious ripe dark berries, leather and licorice. The palate is full-bodied with a silky texture. The mid-palate is heightened by lively acidity. Jammy flavors of currants, black berries, chocolate, espresso, and earth form the core. Finishes long on finely-grained tannin with hints of bay leaf, smoke and peppercorn. Just an amazing, elegant wine. Well-balanced and juicy. Best I've tasted from this Chateau. From magnum. Double decanted 2 hours before serving and consumed over 3 hours. Full bodied, starts out with loads of black fruit, smoke and alcohol, then evolves to show more red fruited grenache character with some herbs and spice. A large amount of heat on the long finish that tamed slightly with air. Showed best the end of the night. Beautiful wine, dark opaque purple red color with hardly no rim, long legs. Fresh dark berries and plums on the nose. On the palate very much the same dark berries, bramble, blackcurrant and dark plums. Also some hint of liqorice and graphite. Still to young but drinks very well now. Despite its heavy alcohol (15,5%!) it does not feel to heavy, so the alcohol is very nicely integrated

Dark ruby/purple in color. Heavy extracted nose with fruit and licorice. On the palate, a whopper with loads of jammy black fruit, vanilla, spice. Way too over extracted and jammy. But this is a wine that is only about 50% Grenache. Not for me, but the fans of this wine should be very happy.

Wow. Helt i balans.

The 2007 CdP’s have been drinking fabulously. This one was no exception. Nose of red and dark fruits, a touch of earth. Deep, concentrated layers. Mature dark fruits, earth, leather. Silky, fine tannins complete the perfecta. Delicious.

Nose of sour cherries and blueberries, sweet nose, reminiscent of a cough drop. Good acidity, grippy tannin, core of red fruit with a herbal finish. Surprisingly light for vintage.

Double decanted for 1 hour
Lots of sediment in bottle
Colour:dark red but not inky purple
Nose:lots of black fruit. A bit jammy
Taste: this is a mighty big wine. Very fine tannins and long lasting. Alcohol does not impede the flavours. Some dark chocolate at the back end. Wonderful!!

Needs 5 minutes for bottle stink to disappear. Dark fruit nose, some licorice. Clean. On palate there is licorice, mineral, concentrated and full bodied but in no way too fleshy. Excellent

Gave it time to age for seven years, and used a burgundy glass to really open this up. Drink now until 2027.

Chateauneuf du Pape 2007 (Petroleum Club, Calgary): 30% syrah, 15% Mourvedre. Med dark red, a little dull. Cranberry jelly nose. It is a flavour bomb - terrific concentration without unecessary weight. Minerality and firm tannin

Deep reflective ruby. Nose throws off blackberry preserves, licorice and fresh split oak. Sweet, broad red and black fruit flavors finishing spicy and not overly hot. Bought this at auction for $20 more than the current posted auction price. If you can get this for $ 30 to $35 it a steal. I don't regret the community average I paid.

Similar notes to last time. Lofty floral aromatics, especially when poured from a 55F wine fridge. Not fruit forward enough for my wife's taste, but I thought it was well balanced.

Nice wine, but the alcohol is too noticeable to merit a 90+ score. 2nd bottle with consistent notes.

*Rrrrrrrrrrrr* I bought some Janasse CdP because of the current hype. So as a side dish I have also ordered this beauty. This seems to be like a starting addiction of CdP. Love it. Its a bit young, has a bit heat, but it shows all the elegance I sometimes miss on my beloved Tuscan wines. Have ordered some more as this was my only bottle.

A modern style Rhone with lots of power. Licorice and leather is the first impression. Then blackberry and hints of gooseberry. The tannins are strong and far from mature. It brings up promises of much more to come. Cellar for at least 5-6 years.

CDP vs. Northern Rhone (Beebe House): Tasting notes from night 2 (under vacu-vin) - At tasting was pop & pour so the wine did not show well and my notes were bad. Sweet raspberry, red licorice, charcoal on nose. Palate similar with some earthy & herbal elments coming out. Full bodied but very smooth. Good acids (great with food) - only flaw was slightly hollow midpalate. Very good wine.
