Like most younger Leonetti's they are better day 2. Unfortunately this only made it 3 hours in the decanter. Earthy notes with plenty of leather, coffee grounds, raspberry, and sweet tannins. Never really came around but has tons of structure and upward potential.
An impressive and well-aged Cabernet that is drinking near its peak right now. Dark purple in color, full in body, nose of mulberry and spice. Well-integrated and ripe tastes of plum, blackberry, leather, and graphite, with a thick and somewhat spicy finish. 14.6% alcohol. Blend of 79% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc, and 3% Malbec. A classy wine.
I like the cassis/Chambord profile of this wine. This is a fruit forward Cabernet but not overpowering. There is a little cinnamon on the nose too. The wine leaves some nice legs on the glass which is a testament to it's viscosity. Overall, a very balanced effort.
Youthful Ruby; bright color for an eight year-old wine. Classic nose of cassis and slightly spicy dark fruits. Has a palate deep dark, but harmonious flavors. Good acidity and fine but fading tannins. Probably entering it's peak drinking window, but with plenty of time to drink up.
Paired with filet mignon and good friends, ready right out of the bottle. After 90 minutes showed solid notes of cigar and tobacco, with black fruit and chocolate on the palate. Minimal tannins, ready to drink.
Wow - This wine is drinking perfectly right now. Big nose of luscious dark fruits, as the wine hits the palate, it's like liquid silk it's so smooth with tannins and fruit in perfect harmony and a long lingering finish. Yum!
I think other recent reviews are right on. Drinking very good. Beautiful soft nose of crushed plum, ripe black fruit. What hits you on the palate is the silky mouthfeel and soft tannins. The flavor of this wine coats the mouth with nice cassis, chocolate, spices, black fruit with a solid finish. Was pleased with this as the QPR on Leonetti these days is out of whack.
It has cellared well. Lots of life remaining. All the typical good tasting adjectives apply for this well balanced cab; particularly smooth finish. Lacking a bit of complexity. Easy to drink alone or would be great with braised beef and rich dark sauce.
Tried in a vertical flight of 2004-2008 Leonetti Cabs. Dark, brooding wine. Nose if tar, charcoal, followed by rich, ripe fruit. Plenty of tannin and structure. Very good wine, would be perfect with a big grilled steak. Will continue to improve and probably smooth out with a few more years in bottle. Try again in 2015+
Full-bodied and more rustic than usual with overripe black raspberry fruit along with notes of cassis and bitter chocolate. This is one of the few West Coast cabs I truly like but this bottle at least was cloying and not enjoyable to drink at all.
Decanted for 4 hours. Rich nose of blackberries, wood and pencil lead. Opulent fruit, incredible depth with espresso and charcoal notes on the finish. Showing well now yet still somewhat closed, hasn't peaked yet and a long life ahead of it, probably at least five years. Try again in 12-18 months.
Not drinking particularly well right now... maybe it is in that "funk" stage but it certainly was NOT what we would expect from an $85 bottle of wine. We did not decant and maybe we should have from reading other reviews... agree with sjdcellar review but based on that criticism could not give this wine any 90+ score.
this was good but not as big and rich as i expect from Leonetti. it seemed to be a bit light on the edges and did not get better in the glass. still a very good wine but just a bit disappointing versus previous tastes
Tasted non blind at a wine dinner. Opened and served immediately. Followed over a couple of hours.
Dark garnet to purple color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of black berries, blue berries, plum and black cherries. Flavors of black cherries, black berries and black raspberries. Bright acidity, medium to firm tannins, full bodied. Drink now with some air time or continue to hold.
Very nice cab. Not nearly as oaky as I'd feared. Tasted downright balanced compared to a typical Napa cab. Lots of layers of fruit and barrel, good concentration and length. Not sure if it's worth the money when compared to Seven Hills, for example, but a very nice wine.
Decanted for 45 minutes and probably needed twice that time. Cherries really are quite dominant in the bouquet and finish. Cooking spices, tobacco and a touch of black earth. It's a great wine that should evolve nicely.
Deep dark garnet color, cassis and black cherry aromas. Fresh, young, and bright acidity. Elegant with lots of black cherry/dark fruit flavors. Was expecting more concentration though. Needs more time in the bottle to really come together. No need to rush this one
Very nice nose of dark cherries and some coffee. Needed time to settle as was a little austere at first. Red fruits and some plum flavors emerged with some bitter mocha. Very complex for its age. Softened nicely with air and had a long flavorful finish.
