About at its prime right now. This s my last bottle. It has masses of licorice and aniseed with coffee, chocolate and some chicory. There is a soft, almost creamy, vanilla undertone. It's all delicious, complex and everything is in such harmony. This is stunning for the price.

Getting even better. This is big but polished, inviting, with a surprising sweetness. Semi-sweet chocolate, tobacco and coffee notes. Not the most refined or reserved of wines but it is quite expressive and has a winning personality. Not as good on the 2nd day - more wayward.

This wine is drinking wonderfully right now. We never wanted it to end. Nicest bottle I have had in a while. Very complex...chocolate, leather, cigar box, anise....on and on.

Very spicy right after uncorking. Mellows considerably after 45 min of breathing. Red fruit aromas and on the palate. A hint of acidity. Respectable tannins and a long mineral finish, we'll balanced. Flavors are not very complex.

Perhaps another mistake in opening a Spanish wine too soon. Earthy nose. This took a couple of hours to show anything on the palate and then it was raspberry tart. Tastes closed to me. Not giving up much. A zing of acid and a drying, flat finish. Not charming, but I wouldn't be surprised if improved over the next 3-5 years.

I reviewed this wine a few years ago and called it flat; it's austere. Not that it is poor, because the wine has nice acidity, medium legs, and an appealing structure, I guess. Maybe it's too much recent wallowing in the heavy musk of California bounty and opulence. This wine is more like hiking in the Spanish mountains and eating a piece of provolone while looking at your handsome wife. 88 points.

Dark ruby red color. Bouquet of precise ripe berry fruit, black pepper, incense, mineral & later evolving earthy & herbal aromas w/sweet spices. Fruit-forward palate w/dark berry fruit, earth, green herb, dissipating black pepper, mineral & glycerin. Tannins were soft, sweet & integrated, moderate acidity, light:medium bodied, and smooth & velvety finish moderate in length w/little heat at end. Thoroughly enjoyable.

Heady but sparkling blackberries on the nose, with a little building sweat and loamy yet inorganic earth. Tastes of alcohol and glycerol without a ton of sweetness or heat, but the weight of this wine really makes it lumber across the palate. Ends with remarkably vapid alcohol-density.

Not mch on day one. BAM! Day two this baby opens up and sings; a big wine. I believe this is too young to consume now; it will be much better in two years.

Inky purple-red. Huge cherry and kirsch nose. Very plush, rich, on the syrupy side now, likely to improve with age. The jammy fruit syrup is well balanced with a lingering bitter finish. Elegant creamy mouthfeel. A well-made fruit bomb for those who who aren't huge fans of fruit bombs (like myself).

A bit peppery on the front and then a quick fade to an odd middle of steel without much fruit during the process. I don't see what the kudos are for about this wine. It's good, not excellent and not dump-able. I'm not getting again.

Lovely nose of red fruit. Big wine, surprisingly concentrated and tannic. Delicious, but not an easy sipper--could use some hearty food. Great value at $18.

A Simple Getogether Luncheon (Lucas): A wine with big structure and "balls" to accomanpany it. Noticeable alc and oak on the nose but suprisiingly rounded and tamed on the palate with lots of black raspberries and slightly confected fruit. Dark and gutsy, this wine is young and excited to see the world.

I want to qualify that I'm not a big wine connoisseur, at least compared to others I know, so I wouldn't consider my wine palate the most sophisticated. I'm actually a cigar man (& well known among my friends for my knowledge of cigars), but because I love food, I have learned to love & appreciate wine. So when I bought this wine on a sale price of $19 and the recommendation of my wine shop I was curious how it would turn out. Color was a very deep red with subtle blue hues and a young nose of berry fruits, kirsch, olive, and a hint of wet peet. Full bodied with a rich mouthfeel, I found the taste very likeable with lots of upfront (but not in your face) red fruits (cherry & strawberry), with hints of blueberries and black berries. Lots of good herbal & kirsch undertones, and hints of smoke of on the back palate (that one was pointed out to me by a staff member of the wine store). Med-long finish that left the palate craving more. Honestly, I liked this wine a lot, and I'm curious as to how it will age. Bought 4 botttles initially, gifted 3 of them (two of which I got to share); and ended up buying another half case. :-) Now I don't understand how others have given it such lower scores, but then again, YTMV, and I will admit (again), that I really am no huge connoisseur but just someone who enjoys a good wine with food. I would seriously give this wine a 92-94 point rating!!!

Deep ruby colour. Dominate cherry and blueberry. Spice box. There is a "whiplash" of fresh cherry on the finish. Decanted. Double vinturi. Drank over 1 1/2 hours. Needs a lot of open time. At the end more integrated fruits and smoother tannins. Will get better with some age. Too early now without some action.

Good wine, though over-oaked. Not vanillified, but there's a lot of astringent wood tannin that builds up as you drink. The mid-palate is also very creamy--tasty, yet generic. The nose is a well-integrated musky perfume and is very enticing. Throw in some hints of blackberry and gaminess as well. The acidity is well balanced and it's not overly tannic. Maybe the wood integrates better over time, but at $19 I'm content with what this wine offers.

Pretty flat. Fine for simple table wine, but it definitely didn't live up the hype for me. I bought it for $19, marked down from $35, and still felt that I overpaid. Yet more proof that RP reviews are meaningless.
