Burgundy Dinner with Friends (My home - Chicago IL): Served alongside the Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey version. This was rich and fleshy with plenty of fresh and dried stone fruit and some honeycomb notes. Very rich and dense, but showing more age than my previous bottle from the same purchase opened one year ago. My last of 4 bottles, and it was time to drink up.

Lieu-dit Cur Blind White Dinner (S.K.Y.): Double blind 07/08 Lafon Charmes & 07/08 Grivault Perrières. Tighter on the nose than the generous 08. And similarly more non-delineated on the palate. Great fruit and concentration, but not as expressive. Upside from here.

Great wine. Very youthful in it's expression. A big citrus squeeze with pure flavours. Delicious. With air it broadens a bit and show some creaminess but still with excellent acidity.

Burgundy Wine Club dinner 2019 - Chambolle: Very lovely wine. Fresh and clean aromas that most prominently show the limestone under transparent Chardonnay fruit. Complex on the nose, and also very elegant, although there is some oak. Delicious and pungent flavors that are well balanced and structured. This wine has class and power and seems to have a very long life ahead of it.

Fourteenth Annual White Truffle Dinner (Chez Weber - Chicago IL): In Lafon Charmes 96/02/05/07 vertical. Fleshy start with ripe apple, toasted walnuts and slightly sweet spice. Very good weight and length, finishing with more minerality, acidity and brightness. Easily the best of the 4 bottles of Charmes.

An absolute tour-de-force. Gorgeous aromas of peaches and cream and wet stone. Perfectly ripe orchard fruits on the palate and seamless, silky texture ending with a sparkling minerality on the long finish. Total stunner and wine of the weekend in a weekend full of gems.

Another Evening of Lafon in Red and White (Arlequin Wine Merchant, San Francisco): Yellow. This also has a wonderful hazelnut quality but more perfume than the 2006 Clos de la Barre. Discrete, elegant weight. Delicious, fresh, cinnamon spice, subtle flavors, outstanding length. Sorry to say, but truly a charmer and the white wine of the night by a wide margin. This seems about fully unfurled but should have the balance to last another 2 to 4 years. I wouldn't push it, though, since it is on the delicate side for this commune.

Not as fat as 2 years ago. Needs 2-3 hours to open up, but once it is there, it reveals a mature nose with admirable freshness. Some toasted wood, blackberries (!), burnt butter, peaches and a tiny amount of pencil rubber. On the palate this is very interesting with a lean attack, quite full bodied and with very good grip. Fresh and long finish. The beauty of this wine is the balance between "bigness" and "freshness".

Lafon 1er Cru and Méo-Camuzet Vosne-Romanée Aux Brulées Dinner (Les Nomades - Chicago IL): Starts out with some ripe and forward orchard and stone fruit aromas with lemon peel and toasted hazelnut, but this seems to turn on a dime showing lemon peel and Apple flavors with racy, energetic textures. Still getting better, this was best on the last sip vs when first poured. Very good now with upside from well stored bottles.

Burgundy WIMPS, Complet table (La Trompette, London): Nicely pale, no more than pale straw. Very fragrant in a light and almost ethereal sense; scented talc almost. Fresh with a pineappley tropical fruit attack and then lots of weight and richness through the long finish. Retains a sense of elegance. Lots of mineral grip and showing a nice line. Quite uncharacteristically elegant and fresh. ****

This is a go-to wine for me in many vintages (my first one was the '92) and while I won't argue qpr, it always agrees with my palate. This one balances medium size with fullness and freshness all at once. Primary notes of peach, apricot, apple with a trace of vanilla and butterscotch. My favorite of the previous decade along with the 05.

Burgundy at Formel B. Much better than anticipated. Very fat and quite mature nose but with admirable freshness. Perfect amount of wood (less than in the past?). Actually outshone the Coche Dury (village) which is rare. On the palate this is very interesting with a steely attack, quite full bodied and with very good grip. Fresh and long finish. The beauty of this wine is the balance between "bigness" and "freshness". Grand Cru quality.

Christmas dinner at Søllerød (Søllerød Kro): This caused me great difficulty to try and guess - and it's not the first time with Lafon. That it was white Burgundy was obvious, but the combination of butter, bruised apple, hints of smoke and a mineral nerve, sent me to Puligny, not to Meursault - but probably should have sent me to Lafon. Too young , in my opinion.

The supper club eats and drinks well in Connecticut. (Bill's.): Sports a showy nose full of cream, smoke, lemon candy, pear, apple and mineral. Rich and creamy on the palate, but with delineation and fine acids. Nice ripeness to the fruit without being overdone. Elegant and beautifully balanced with a touch of wood on the finish. This went very nicely with the raw tuna dish where the toasted sesame seeds made the pairing really pop. Solid A-.

Blind tasting. Decanted one hour. Pale hue. Nose a dissection room : wet ground, oxidised apples and immediately covered with strong burning whisky/formol notes. Making me think that the wine is emaciated. Mouth very surprising positively: seductive, cream and butter, powerful energy on the mid palate, long long after tasted carried with menthol notes. Perfect balance between minerality and fruit. Excellent. But why are we the only to find such a strange nose ?

Exquisite. I enjoyed this wine greatly, but it certainly has the potential to develop into an even greater wine. If only my life were filled with wines like this and nice aged Bordeaux. I take the beauties when I can get them. Luckily I have one more.
Citrus, acid, and hints of malolactic on the nose. Perfect balance on the palate with notes of green apple and a mild creaminess to the palate. Silky viscous mouth feel. Great.

Decanted it for like 20mins and we think it benefitted it given how young this beauty is. Buttery and with a nice minerality on the back. This wine needs another 2-3 years before it gets to drinking window. Still a great wine and one to look out for. But for sure an expensive one too.
