The 2006 Emigre is a blend of four vineyards and six grape varieties (Grenache, Shiraz, Mourvedre, Cabernet Sauvignon, Carignan, and Muscadelle). Dark ruby core, rich, ripe and slightly pungent nose, gradually open up to show blueberry jam, plum, black cherry, smoke and sweet cedar notes. Soft and velvety entry, showing Blackcurrant, blueberry, cherry and liqueur. Intensity slowly build up on palate with a polished mouthfeel. Smooth and almost dissolve tannins, lingering finish with hints of spicy aftertaste. Drink over the night. Still holding well and opening up after 2 hours. It has old world touch but with a distinctive new world fruits .

Complex melded aromas of salted plums, sweet chestnuts, lilacs, rich espresso, and game meat. Sweet saturating juice on the palate with an intense acid frame, lilting aromas moving into a wild tannic acid finish. Great energy and wisdom, lovely with Szechuan eggplant and Japanese rice.

Intense aromas of blackcurrant, dark cherries, leather, forest mold, with notes of white pepper and baking spice. Concentrated pastille fruit on the palate, viscous with weighty tannins, delicate touch of acids, some bright aromatic color at the back. Not my normal style, but a good example of that, carries its 14.5% alcohol well.

Perfect cork, slight bricking, fair amount of sediment. Decanted 60 minutes. Much improved from last bottle 2 years ago. Mid palate displays remarkably integrated notes of red fruits, meat/game, herbs, minerals, and a touch of oak. Acidity is a bit light so I’d recommend this with lighter fare like chicken or as an aperitif. Drink now.

Popped and poured, with the wine not showing well, very flat and tired. Opened up nicely after about an hour. Not a ton of depth or complexity, but decent typicity and solid with pork tenderloin. Drink over the next 2 years or so and give it some air.

Similar notes to last time. Perfectly acceptable wine for midweek . For me its not top shelf. If you can pick it up at the typically heavily discounted prices (and if you can't where are you buying from?) then drink and enjoy. Its not worth the headline price though.

Prunes and plums on the nose. The colour is deep. Red and black fruits, prunes and tobacco on the palate. The fruit is intense, the finish is long. Overall this is a typical Barossa Shiraz. It is not a complete fruit bomb, but neither does it have the sophistication or structure of a great Barossa red wine.

This had mellowed a lot from the first time. It has rounded off quite a bit with the alcohol still very present on the back end. I would give this another 2 years before it starts to peak. Big dark fruit, graphite, And sour cherries are dominant on the nose while the same can be tasted with the addition of white pepper and a touch of tomato paste. Solid wine that I would seek out again. Definitely would like to try another young bottle.

Dark, deep, garnet color. Aroma of licorice, dark plum, Allspice. Dry, full bodied, with lively acidity. Spicy, peppery, medium tannins. Dark plum fruit. Burst of initial flavor with a long finish. Very nice wine. Could age a bit longer.
1/26/2020 Update Smoother and very drinkable now. More robust plumy flavor. Had with a home made Moroccan lamb stew and was a nice compliment to this spicy dish.

Pop & pour but it doesn't seems to be ready. After some air it shows cherry, red fruits, spice on th enose. Medium bodied, smooth & elegant. On palate it is red fruited with white pepper and hints of oak. Medium+ finish and fine subtle tannins. This would be drinking nice now with proper decanting.

Cherry menthol nose, almost numbing flavor profile, does not produce a totally balanced profile at all at this point, may get better with age, but hard to distinguish the tannins from fruit, overly integrated makes it very one dimensional?

The wine is a deep maroon color. The fully open and inviting nose has cherries, blackberries, minerals, Asian spices, fresh ground dark roast coffee, dark bittersweet chocolate, charred meat, dried herbs, wild flowers, and scorched earth. This has medium to full body, fairly solid ripe tannins, and good acidity. On the palate the big fruit component is matched stride for stride by dusty minerals, dark chocolate, dried herbs, and dark roast coffee, with a meaty element coming in on the back end. The finish is long with minerals, charred meat, and dried herbs adding a great dimension to the mixed fruits. This is on the young side but absolutely delicious. This is big and bold but not an overly ripe, syrupy style of wine.

Dark reddish brown. Complex aromas of mushrooms, tobacco, crushed rock, chocolate, capsicum, black cherry. Gorgeous dark cherry fruit on the palate, a long finish with electric acid chocolate/mushroom flashes. Rich mouth feel. My first thought was 92, then I backed off a bit because of a certain lack of integration of the elements. But I'll stay with that for now.

This is medium to full bodied with fairly solid, ripe tannins and very nice acidity. On the palate the dusty, mineral laden fruit shares the top billing with dried herbs and espresso. This was pretty good on the first day, nice dark fruits but very brambly with teeth coating tannins. The second day, the tannins were still there in full force, the fruit was still noticeable but there was some mocha emerging. The third day the tannins finally integrated and this was smooth with a plush mouth feel. All the primary fruit was still vibrant with the secondary flavors of mocha and spice providing a balance accent to the fruit. This is still a baby, give it a few more years to integrate the tannins in the cellar. I vinturi'd one of the glasses the first day and it didn't help settle the tannins. It did make the fruit more vibrant. I'm finding slow oxidation is the best way to go for most of the wines i've been opening lately.

Day 1 Rated 90. Bought a case at a steal. had to pop one immediately. initially very astringent and loaded with cranberry tart fruit. after a slight chill and 2 hours of aeration- the wine developed some boysenberry fruit and although big, smoother tannins. looking forward to finishing bottle tomorrow. Day 2 rated 91. Wine mellowed with time and the wine became more balanced, but was still big and slightly complex. Based on this first bottle-I am going to start drinking the rest. I am afraid that like many Australian Barossa wines, it is starting to loose the fruit and will only get worse with age.

Even with only a half hour opened this wine was a hit. So much better than last year's bottle. Very smooth with dark fruit and smoke. Even a bit of earthiness. Everyone loved it. I think I could have gone higher but only gave it a 90 one year ago. I look forward to next year's bottle.

1st Bottle of 6 Purchased. Based upon what I had read, this wine needed air. Used aerator into decanter. Initial nose was like sweet jam. Allowed to sit for 2 hours before pouring. Nose out of glass had lost the sweet jam but alcohol masked other scents. Gave it another 20 minutes in glass before tasting. Finally, enjoyed smooth tannins with what Ruth described as very pleasant. Paired with grilled fillet smothered in onions and sweet potato. Wine continued to develop with second glass showing distinct dark chocolate flavor and even more distinct tannins. We decided to leave the remaining in the decanter for a few more hours to try again. After 5 hours, we had the last glass with a bit of Dark Chocolate. The strong alcohol was gone and the wine was velvety smooth. This one is a keeper that will only improve with age.

Nose was intoxicating blend of leather and mocha. This continued on the tongue with the addition of plum and black cherry. This is good stuff.

I am afraid that like many Australian Barossa wines, it is starting to loose the fruit and will only get worse with age.

did not love this one, personally. Too much fruit for me. Nice structure, but I just prefer my wines with a little less fruit.

Even with only a half hour opened this wine was a hit. So much better than last year's bottle. Very smooth with dark fruit and smoke. Even a bit of earthiness. Everyone loved it. I think I could have gone higher but only gave it a 90 one year ago. I look forward to next year's bottle.

decanted for 45 min. I usually don't like Shiraz, but this was full bodied, complex, smoky with dark berries and earthy flavors. Great shiraz

Ripe plum , vanillian oak and almost gamey undertones. Palate has layers of fruit with plum , blueberry and coconut. Even though pushing 15.5% alcohol has tremendous balance

light body initially right out of my cellar, soft on the pallet. Cork had a firm tobacco smell. not long after opening increase in fruit flavor.
well received.
