Lovely nose opens up a very mellow cab with tons of blackberry and tar flavors. Velvet on the palate is this wines best feature, but has lost some "umph" in its old age but quite nice as its low in OH. Wife rates 9.2, damn!

Poured several of this '02 Cab (stored in my cellar since purchase from winery) last night for guests, admittedly with some trepidation. Big positive surprise in having nice fruit, round smoothness, although not too deep or complex at this age. But after 12 years and at this price point, who could ask for more? All in all, a very nice performance from a well crafted wine.

Had alongside the 2001, and it was quite similar in profile but a bit less concentration and power. Quite youthful; continued to improve with air. Tart berry and plum. Medium finish. Quite good.

Had to be the surprise of the night. What a nice 12 year old Cali Cab. Visually, no sign of age. solid color edge to edge. Deep translucent ruby with no browning. Detect a slight amount of age on the nose but no funk usually associated with an aging wine. Great mouthfeel and structure to keep this wine gong for a while longer. I don't think its in its prime but maybe just starting the backstretch.

Very nice, one of the best reds of our New Year's Eve, this was a bit different than some of the pro reviews and perhaps is coming into it's own after 10 years - Dark, full bodied with a nose of Blackfruit, plum, cedar, chocolate and vanilla, well structured and balanced with years to go, sweet, long on the palate and simply delicious (92 Points).

No signs of age. Black fruits on the nose. Black fruits on the palate that morphed into a combination of black and red after about 90 minutes of air. Plush texture on the tongue, but not particularly viscous. The fruit lingered a long time on the finish. Has to be at its peak. Right?

This just keeps getting better. My third bottle in a year and a half, and it's shown steady improvement. No signs of age, by eye, nose, or palate. Very balanced and surprisingly polished for a cab in this price range, it's surpassed the '01, and it's also outlived it. It has to be at its peak - doesn't it?

Better than the bottle I had eight months ago. Same plummy nose, and same dark fruit on the palate, along with traces of cigar box and mint. However, the tannins have subsided and turned into a citrusy tingling on the tongue. It's much better balanced now, and the finish seems to have lengthened. "Serviceable" has turned into "pretty damned good". I don't know if it's reached its peak or not, but it seems to have plenty of life left in it.

I go back and forth on Whitehall Lane. But I think I have come to a conclusion that this is a great value in "vintage years" and not worth it in iffy years. 2002 was indeed a very good year, and so I was quite happy with this. Nine years has done this wine well, as it is mellow, smooth, and gives all the best that Napa has to give. I've got a ton more of this stuff - and my advice would be to drink it now. I can't see it going anywhere but down from here.

Opaque - no signs of age. Mostly plums on the nose. Plums and other dark fruit on the palate, along with hints of cigar box and mint. Major league tannins that are very pronounced on the finish. Nice with steaks, probably not all that pleasant by itself. A lot fruitier and more tannic than several '01s I've had recently, this seems MUCH younger than the '01. Not a great wine, but a serviceable companion to hearty foods. While the '01 seems to be fading (or maybe faded), this one seems to have a lot of life left in it.

Interesting contrasts in this wine. On the nose alone, you would guess a much older wine -- notes of saddle leather, cocoa, smoke, and a whiff of dill. The palate, however, is that of a very young wine. Even after a two hour decant, dusty tannins predominate and grip fairly hard. Underneath is a nice wine, with chalky black cherry and currant, plus a not displeasing herbal note. Still needs to mellow out a bit. My recommendation would be to let these sleep awhile longer.

This wine was good, but for a decent year, it was not as impressive as the 2003, a more difficult year. I expected more but was slightly disappointed by the somewhat weak midpalate for this wine. The nose was nice and the finish recovered well after the middle, but the wine was overshadowed by the others of the night (Staglin 01, Hess 03, Arrowood 99). Still nice effort.

From a .375 ITS A SCREWTOP?! Never would have imagined! Pop and pour in a restaurant, out of Reidel restaurant stems. Nutmeg and spice on the nose, light in weight, fine grained tanins. Red fruit, currants, slight bitterness in the short aftertaste. An okay wine, but the finish was too light and quick to rate higher in my book. More air might have helped, since this was gone in an hour, and not decanted.

Nice soft fruit integrated with dusty tannins...Fruit forward. Not a great range of flavors. Nice drink.

Group 10th, My last - Full purple. Medium musty aroma of spicy red and black fruit. Tight, slightly bitter tannic on the palate. Not enough fruit to carry it off. 4/05
