Smooth, attractive and mellow. Fruit has melded nicely, but finishes a little short with a gentle sherry undertone. This bottle began with an unfortunate streak of TCA, which blew off after a few hours. Drink now.

Opened up to try prior to serving with a Christmas dinner of beef tenderloin and all the trimmings. Still going strong. It has definitely mellowed but still a lot of fruit. Looking forward to seeing how it pairs with the filet roast. Merry Christmas everyone, and I hope you can find some joy in the remainder of this train wreck of a year.

This had a strong showing from the start with a deep red color and good structure in the glass. I decanted it. There was a mild amount of sediment in the bottom. It was delicious still in early 2020 and did not feel past it’s prime.

Opened and strained for very significant sediment from a half bottle. Still fine-grained sediment remains in the glass. A dark ruby in the glass, with a strong nose of candied raspberry, blackberry, black currant, vanilla and a cedar tobacco box. Our experience is very much in-line with TOMOEM below. I don't remember a vintage of Cinq Cepages that has this much tobacco/charcoal/ash character. My SO likes this more than I do on this occasion. Drank on its own, which may have affected my perception. Will have the next one with a nice aged steak.

Excellent California bourdeaux style wine. Full bodied, no tannins, perfectly balanced fruit. Hint of berries and currents. Highly recommend if you can get your hands on a bottle.

Beautiful wine with a cream mouthfeel texture and clear age on the palette. Fresh still on the nose with strawberry and smoked cedar. That said it is on the mid palette that this wine shines. A dried cherry and charchol combination which just rings of class.
This is royalty in the sub $50 blend.
On the finish the wine is slightly disappointing because the tannins and dried cherry emerge. It is over 12 years at tasting so I suppose this tells me that you sacrifice something for all that value. I would find these and drink them because the aged fruit is significantly greater than the tinge of dryness on the finish.

The wine looks inky colored. The legs are medium. There is moderate sediment in the bottle. It smells like black currant (cassis), cherry and forest floor. It tastes like black currant (cassis), cherry, forest floor and chocolate. May not be chocolate but something that is slightly sweet on the back palate just before swallowing The body is medium. The wine has round texture. The wine finishes medium. The wine has medium acidity. A perfect cab blend with lots of life still left.

Consistent with my earlier notes; that is, great 375 to have on nights when you're leaving town next day. Seems a little acidic and slightly off at the end (nearing its window), but good value.

Purchased a few in 2012 and aged ~5years in my cellar. Decent, but wanted to like it more for the wine's reputation and price. In the same price range, bottles of Pedestal Merlot or Col Solare would represent a much better investment choice for cellar space.

Improving with age. Nose of black and red fruit, bell pepper, and pencil shavings. On the palate lush but not heavy with black berries, sour cherry, menthol, and spice. Nice balanced finish with plenty of grip. Should be good for the next 7-10 years.

Did not decant and one is definitely not needed (though did improve with an hr open). Tannins are fully resolved with only a hint of acidic red fruit. Think old world elegance with a decent punch of oak. Nonetheless silky black cherry, graphite, dusty earth and chalky cassis. Has aged well but lacks the depth and concentration to be really good. Drink over the next 2 years.

Fine choice that was paired with our Steak Au poivre. Didn't decant and noticed no sediment mentioned by other tasting notes. Was not familiar with this wine, having received it as a gift, but appreciated the fullness after aging, without losing any of its structure. Tasted black cherry and cassis. I would seek out another vintage of this wine, given our experience.

Okay bottle for their flagship wine at the going price. Not spectacular for a Cinq Cepages but a nice wine. Not much depth or complex finish, not much life left in this wine in terms of cellaring.

One of the better (i.e. more balanced and better integrated) bottles of Cinq Cepage I have tasted in a while. Other recent experiences have been fairly tannic despite 10+ years of age. This was an interesting side by side with a 2008 BV Tapestry. The Tapestry was pretty fruit filled while the Cinq Cepage was more of a Bordeaux style, with more moss, tobacco and cedar notes.

A softer and gentler California red. I like the balance of fruit and earth tones, but it is a little simple after the second glass. Drinking well and a decent value for this region.

The wine looks brick colored. The legs are medium. There is light sediment in the bottle. It smells like strawberry, black currant (cassis), raspberry and clove. It tastes like raspberry, black currant (cassis), strawberry jam, cherry, plum, dust and vanilla. The body is medium. The wine has round texture. The wine finishes medium. The wine has medium acidity. A well made wine in every aspect. I only have 2 bottles left. A great wine.

My 4th tasting since 2011 and I am going back up in my score to 91.
This bottle was outstanding. very little bricking as compared to my bottle in 2014. Dark purple, limited clarity and a generous nose of red fruits, spices and touches of vanilla.
Still showing quite integrated and balanced. Red cherry, strawberry, cassis, light plum, spices and hints of vanilla.
This was my last one and it went out in style!

Cherry, black current, and raspberry on the slightly closed nose upon opening. Dark and rich in the glass seemingly retaining its youth. Blackberry, vanilla, leather, and current on the palate with some carbonated cola on the finish. Quite nice but not something you will remember.

Medium garnet color with a nose of moss and forest floor. Dark berry, boysenberry, blackberry, cassis and and a bit of cedar on the palate. For me, this opened nicely balanced and ready to drink. Other recent vintages (2004 & 2005) have seemed very tannic to me. Not so with this bottle. Tannins are nicely integrated and the wine has a medium finish.

Exceedingly tannic upon first opening. This needed plenty of time to come around. Medicinal and berry dominate the aromas; cassis, cigar, dark berry flavors with good length on the finish. Overall an impressive old world edge to this wine. Lots of life left in this bottle.

Upon opening very strong notes of dark fruit: cherry, blackberry, blueberry notes, hint of vanilla. First glass after 30 minutes of decanting, still strong notes of dark fruit on the nose, very smooth. After 1.5 hours of decanting it opened up, dark fruit still lingered on the nose, but licorice and tobacco flavors came through. No noticeable tannins, smooth finish, dark fruit flavors permeated the wine overall.

Not as good as it was a year and half ago, the last time I had a bottle, but still very good, dark fruit on the nose, the palate was blueberry, red meat and cigar box, the finish was long but did not bring out any taste of menthol as in the past.

November 2014: This is one of my last bottles and my 3rd tasting note on this vintage.
It has peaked so I moved my score down from 92 to 89. Still beautiful in the glass with just slight hints of age. The nose is soft with red fruits, baking spices and touch of cassis.
On the plate this older beauty is softer as the tannin's have melted away. Unfortunately the fruits are now in the backseat and the secondary flavors are driving this wine the rest of the way. Not bad though and still very enjoyable but the life of this wine is moving onto wherever good wines go to retire.

Drank alongside a bottle of 08 Chimney Rock SLD. Nice comparison of medium priced Napa Cabs. This bottle was a little slower to open up but when it did, you could tell it was solidly made. A little short on finish and tannins in comparison, but still a quality wine. Drink soon!

Dark, complex, nice finish. Much different than the brighter '05 Ferrari Carano Tresor that was opened next. Most seemed to prefer the acid of the Tresor, but I preferred the dark complexity of this wine though the Tresor was vey nice.

Popped and poured from split. This is a good, dark red wine that reflects some purple overtones. There is some mild sediment at the end of the bottle. On the nose, there is currant, a dusty aroma, and some mint. In the mouth, this is smooth, with some oak-driven flavors leaving a lush finish. Overall, this is an enjoyable, well-made wine, albeit one that is somewhat generic. 90 points.

Had at dinner with no decanting. The wine started a bit harsh but tamed quickly. Lots of very well defined notes including blackberry, graphite, tobacco, fig, deep plum and rose. The flavors swirl, tucking in and out as it's swirled. The wine finishes very long and silky with tannins of silk.

Beautiful expression of a Sonoma Meritage. Lucious, round blackberry and currant notes that really jump out after a few hours decant. Toasty vanilla and a soft mouthfeel really showcase the dark ripe fruits. I haven't even gotten to the 2007-2009 Cinq Cepages yet... Can't wait.

Popped and poured from split. This is a darker red wine that hits you with an immediate nose of chocolate/vanilla influences from the wood, before giving way to a bit of black fruit and cassis. 375ml - the wine seemed closed and was pretty tannic. Drank over 2 nights without real improvement. Suggest to wait a few more years as i've had older vintages that were sublime.
This was showing much better on the 2nd day. Initially had some slightly over-ripe, pruney notes, but the 2nd day those were gone. Quite robust, full and rich.

I have had several of the 06 Cinq Cepages and find them to be well made and drinking very well! The 06 vintage was a surprise winner compared to previous vintages of this wine.

This wine provides a study in the tension between muscle and finesse. It's dry and masculine, offering good balance, depth, and a nice texture, but it's barely full bodied, missing that richness you look for in a California Meritage. Classic flavors of cassis, black cherry, blackberry, blueberry, licorice, cigar box, and leather are complemented by dusty tannins. Blue fruit becomes more pronounced with air. A note of dark chocolate creeps up on the lengthy finish. This has a chance to develop nicely over time. Decant.

Popped and poured through Vinturi and then decanted for 35-40 minutes. Dark ruby red in color, nice nose of some darker fruits like plum and blueberry. Upon tasting, black cherry, blueberry, spice, a hint of chocolate and jam hit you. Light, soft, and offered a pleasant finish. Impressive QPR on this since it ran $28 per bottle on sale. I would recommend it again for the right price. Just a nice pleasant cab to enjoy.

Muted nose, but strong acetone notes on the palate after first opening. With some air, the acetone recedes, replaced by alcohol, and more black fruits come to the fore. Definitely a little bitterness too. Nonetheless, I enjoyed this and look forward to watching my remaining bottles evolve.

The label claims to be Bordeaux style "five grapes" but this wine shows a lot of CA sunshine. On the nose it has bright plums, soy sauce and a bit of ocean breeze. In the mouth dark ripe fruits comes through with plenty of creamy oak and some herbs. Finishes long but too bitter for my liking. This wine as good structure and probably can good 4-5 more years but not much more beyond that.

A bit disappointing vs the 2005 I drank last month. The '05 had good fruit and was well-balanced. This wine is heavy on the oak & vanilla, but not so great on the fruit. Picked this vintage up for 25% less than the '05, so it's not bad for the price. Could it get better? Perhaps.

Cabernet Sauvignon (Farpointe Cellar): Mocha and tea on the front end of the palate leads to blackberry and cherry, with a touch of oak towards the end. Lots of upfront fruit - dark and red berries with cassis and currant very evident. Started off with a firm structure that softened a bit over a couple of hours. The wine has round texture. The wine finishes medium. The wine has medium acidity. A perfect cab blend with lots of life still left.

This wine showed extraordinarily well. Plenty of fruit on the nose with a great mouthfeel and a long, lingering finish. One of the best Sonoma County blends.

Decant.

Perhaps.

A bit tight and not showing a whole lot. May improve with some time. Picked up for $30 and it delivered for the price, but in no rush to buy more.

Lots of ripe, juicy red and blue berry flavors. Soft, round and smooth with a medium + body. It starts off big and fruity on the attack but declines in the mid-palate and thru the finish. Not as much structure or depth as I hoped for.

Massive wine up front. Quite fruity but still needs time for the tannins to smooth. Has potential for 93 to 94 pts in several years.

While it resembles the nice Cinqs I've drunk in the past, there is a slight tartness to the finish I didn't recall. At times it has the mild oakey heat and rich mouth I recall, but seems to ebb and flow. I'm not quite sure what to make of this yet but I have other bottles for future comparison.

Mocha, tea leaves, hint of vanilla and currants on the nose. Palate rich with currants and dark fruit profile, rustictic with strongly earthy character and chalky tannins. Finishes with a strong chocolate character.

Decanted one hour. Fairly old-world in its approach - stately tannins, restrained fruit, great acid, nice earthiness. Black currant fruit with medium oak. Medium body. Not really ready yet. I could see this developing into something special. Not a brilliant QPR play at $40, but an awesome wine all the same.

Corks: Sonoma: Massive nose. Very restrained, slightly high-toned. Fruit-forward, but still nice minerality, red fruit, medium body, medium+ structure, ready.

Had two bottles at Boulder Chop House for the wives Birthday celebration. Nice dark purple color with only slight transparency. The nose was tight on the attack but opened up after 20 minutes in the glass.
What a beautiful nose, cherry, cassis, leather. spice and a touch of pepper. Medium to heavy body with well integrated tannins.
Very smooth mouth feel and the flavor across the palate matched the nose. Drinking very well right now and should hold for several more years.

Saturdays at One - Volume 41 (Farpointe Wine Bar, Southlake, Texas): WIML90
Tasted non blind.
Garnet color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of currants, smoke, black berries, black cherries and white pepper. Flavors of black berries, Bing cherries and bitters. Medium acidity, medium to firm tannins, medium to full bodied. Drink now with some air or over the next 2-7 years plus or minus a bit.

Cabernet Sauvignon (Farpointe Cellar): Mocha and tea on the front end of the palate leads to blackberry and cherry, with a touch of oak towards the end. Rich and creamy in the mouth, the black tea and dark chocolate flavors are the star, with dark fruit behind. The tannins have good grip, and the finish has a pleasant woodiness.

Lots of upfront fruit - dark and red berries with cassis and currant very evident. Started off with a firm structure that softened a bit over a couple of hours. Nicely balanced with somewhat soft edges and a very smooth, round texture. This is very nice, but also just a bit ripe and jammy for my palate.

LCBO "Sonoma Superstars" Taste and Buy Event - October 21, 2010. Sorry, no or limited tasting notes. Just a score. Too many wines, too little time for notes. Here's the note, if any:
Nose - 92
Palette - 92
With time - 94

Popped and poured at restaurant, so perhaps not the best assessment. Balanced, rounded flavor spectrum typical of Cinq Cepages, but still too tannic. Enjoyed at The Dover in Omaha

Nicely integrated, fruit was reserved, as CC tends to be. Tasted like the merlot was the star of the blend.
