Gourmetklubbens femtiosjunde middag hemma hos P+H: Tema Italienskt (P+H, Södermalm): (Disgorged in February 2015, base year 2008 without reserves, 100% Chardonnay from Cramant) Lovely lemons, chalk and minerals on the tight and youthful nose with a nice and acidic candied lemon citrus driven palate. Smoothing finish where the youthful citrus acidity comes back again. Still very tight and focused on youthful citrus notes, should get better with some more cellar time.. (Best 2023-2038)

(Disgorged in September 2017, base year 2013, 100% Chardonnay from Cramant) Nice yellow colour with a youthful nose showing a lovely chalkiness combined with candied lemons and some notes of flint stone, feels elegant and delicious! Lovely intensity on the palate with an intense green apple’s acidity and showing some candied lemons and a hint of creaminess laying underneath. But the intense and lengthy finish is dominating with a dry chalkiness combined with a pleasant lime zesty bitterness and leaving lots of saltiness on the lips. Very nice right now with its youthful and intensely refreshing finish, but will be a delight to see as it transforms into a more mature version of itself! (Best 2023-2038)

(Disgorged in September 2017, base year 2013 without reserves, 100% Chardonnay from Cramant) Lovely intense yellow colour with a wide stream of fine bubbles growing in the glass. Still youthful on the nose with minerals, chalk and citrus flowers at first, before it opens up with hazelnuts, fresh cut grass and some butter in a very pleasant way. Nice and crisp on the fruitful palate showing softened lemon citrus acidity and with a lemon zest bitterness on the lengthy finish. Still very fresh and focused on the crisp youthful acidity that is starting to soften.. (Best 2023-2038)

(Disgorged in the late 1980’s with a base from mid 80’s, 100% Chardonnay from Cramant, made with a lower pressure) Golden yellow colour with a lovely maturity on the nose showing butterscotch, milk chocolate, minerals and some roasted almonds in a delicious way. Smoothing acidity on the creamy palate combining minerals and lime zesty citrus notes with a very pleasant fruitiness on the finish that is giving a perfect lift to the finish and overall feeling. The minerals are showing perfectly leaving a wonderful saltiness on the lips as well! Excellent showing tonight with a very evolved nose and delicious all by itself tonight. Crémant de Cramant was a special denomination in Champagne used only for low pressures (approx 3,6 atm compared to 6 atm that is normal for a champagne bottle) made in Cramant which fitted the village style of chalky and creamy style perfectly. The name Crémant was moved in the late 1980’s and instead used for all bubbly wine made with the traditional method in France, but outside of the Champagne region. However making Champagne cuvées with lower pressure is still allowed in Champagne, just not to use the name ‘Crémant’ on the label… (Still drinking very well with 30 years of post disgorgement cellaring)

(Disgorged in March 2012, base year 2006, 100% Chardonnay from Cramant) Lovely intense yellow colour with a greenish hue and a stream of very fine bubbles. Still showing a youthful freshness on the nose with lemon, flint stone and minerals at first. Opens up in the glass with butter and a touch of fresh cut grass in a very pleasant way. Smoothing yellow apples acidity and flint stone on the palate with a delicious buttery note on the mid to late before a citrus zesty bitterness on the finish. (Best 2021-2041)

(Disgorged in 2002, base year 1998, 100% Chardonnay from Cramant, dosage 6 gr/l) Intense yellow colour with a lovely and gentle stream of very fine bubbles that lead way for an explosion on the mature nose showing chalk, cream and citrus flowers at first, before opening up with marmalade, toasted bread and coffee notes in a delicious way. Smoothing citrus acidity on the palate combining a touch of marmalade with its lovely creaminess on the mid and finish with toasted bread and a lengthy red grapefruit zest bitterness. Wow! It’s always exciting seeking out an older bottle from the cellar to see how it has evolved with extended cellar time and this bottle that I’ve had for almost two decades was showing nothing but excellence, what a graceful development it has had!

Old bottling, I guess commercialised in the 90s. When we opened the bottle, it had a typical 'old champagne' smell (a little bit of dampness) that needed some air to dissipate. Afterwards, the toasted aromas were very strong: almonds, hazelnuts, praliné, fresh coffee with milk, toffee, caramel and burned brown sugar, milk chocolate; a marked spiciness with cinnamon, pepper, cardamom, vanilla; ripe lemons, peaches, apricots, baked pears, a little oxidative on the finish but not overwhelming. Interesting and well-aged bottle of this cuvée, microscopic bubbles (not much effervescence) and a surprising acidity, though not very high. Happy to have tried it. 91pt

Gourmetklubbens fyrtiofemte middag: Tema Havets läckerheter (Södermalm, Stockholm (P+A)): (Disgorged in September 2017, base year 2013, 100% Chardonnay from Cramant) Light yellow colour with a greenish hue. Youthful nose showing chalk, flint and butter in a very delicious way. Nice and creamy citrus acidity combined with some lighter flower notes. Intense on the palate with a precise citrus acidity combined with a very elegant and distinct finish showing lime zest bitterness. This is a very good follow up to their 2012 based version and should benefit extended cellaring for sure. (Best 2023-2038)

(Disgorged in February 2015, base year 2008, 100% Grand Cru Chardonnay from Cramant) Very pale yellow in colour with an endless stream of very fine bubbles that lead way forte still very youthful nose dominated by citrus fruit and spring flowers at first before showing a lovely cream and chalkiness turning into raspberries and with that lovely Cramant expression. Fresh lemon acidity on the palate, then lots of creaminess on the mid before the nice lemon peel bitterness takes over on the long lasting finish. Perfectly accompanying the warm afternoon sun after a day by the sea. This is still surprisingly youthful and needs so many more years to show more mature notes. (Best 2023-2038 with base year 2008)

Mumm Dinner with H (Österlånggatan 17): (Disgorged in spring of 2017, base year 2012, dosage 6 gr/l, 100% Chardonnay from Cramant) Light yellow colour with a stream of very fine bubbles and with a delight nose showing citrus, minerals and nuttiness in a very youthful style. Palate is focused on finesse and with a very elegant lemon and chalk driven taste, with a very long grapefruit peel finish. This is a big step up from their standard cuvée and was matching the shrimp and Kalix roe perfectly this evening. Very nice in its youth, but with so much potential for evolution and should be a wonderfully and creamy sensation in a decade or so! (Probably best 2018-2033)

Yellow color with a modest, vaguely fruity bouquet and flavor. Fair effervescence. Good balance but not much to balance. Pleasant but forgettable. Drunk with some wonderful, very large lobster tails. Wish the wine had been as good as the lobster tails. It was rated quite highly, which should be a reminder to everyone of the perils of wine ratings. They are at best a guide. Unfortunately, with the vast numbers of wines and vintages, some guide is needed. Imagine strolling down the aisles of your local wine emporium and not having any ratings. Even so, "Caveat emptor".

Dinner at Acqua (Acqua Restaurant & Wine Bar, White Bear Lake, MN): Light medium gold color. Drank 2 glasses over 45 minutes. Much bigger and heavier than the Ernestine, very toasted on the nose and palate, toasty, brioche, full body, baked pear, autolytic, yeasty with some earthiness, medium length. Larger bubbles.

Appearance: Bright and clear, it has medium lemon color, with watery rims and legs. The bubbles are fine yet lacking in consistency. Nose: Clean, with medium intensity aromas of citrus fruit of lemon, green fruit of green apple and pear, autolytic notes of bread, toast and yeast, oxidation notes of sherry. The wine has fully developed. Palate: Dry with high acidity, the wine has medium alcohol, medium (-) body and medium intensity flavors of citrus fruit such as lemon, green fruit of green apple and pear, oxidation notes of sherry, autolytic notes of bread and yeast. The mousse is not consistent however. The wine has a medium finish. Conclusion: Good quality high-priced Champagne with a reasonably intense nose showing fair complexity, the wine has a high acidity typical of the wine style with a signature Chardonnay notes, as demonstrating through the reasonably concentrated palate, but the sherry notes showing that it probably has already seen too much ageing and oxidation. With fair length on the finish, it is a bit too old and over its best.

My final bottle from a 6 pack, bought for $30 each. At that price, it's an acceptable but not great purchase. On the plus side, it DOES taste like champagne, brioche, toffee, pear, toast, chaulk and a tart minerally finish. I've had this wine several times over the years in addition to this 6 pack, and it's never impressed. At it's price point, there are many better options, such as Bollinger or Taittinger.

There seems to be some bottle variation on the 6 I bought, as the last two have been much nicer. Lots of toast, yeast, good acidity. A rather bold finish almost seems out of place. Good.

The NV BdB Mumm Cramant fails to impress tonight. Fresh and crisp with a flabby secondary tone. A lot of green apple combined with lemon curd and a very one-dimensional impression. The palate adds to the overall impression with a rather fine grained mousse and a sugary sweet finish. The overall impression is disappointing. One of the professional tasters around the table did not even think it was a Champagne. But actually, as a sparkling wine it drinks quite nicely. Though I would think twice as a winemaker before releasing an effort like this... (bottle was disgorged in November 2013)

Decent, some complexity. I think these bottles I purchased are a little older. I detected a distinct metallic finish on this wine that was not entirely pleasant. This is an ok champagne, definitely not my favorite, especially at the price.

Pale gold. Fresh nose of lemon, pear and some chalk. Citric sweetness on entry. Frothy, moussey. Relatively racy acidity. Crisp with some minerality. Medium weight, but a fairly straightforward expression in this lineup. 89.

What a lovely wine. A greenish color with a golden sparkle. The bobbles were rising slowly in what seemed to be a thick textured Champagne. The nose is dark, stuffed with toast and perfume. The palate is very concentrated, and still to the dark side:) No - it is a very impressive wine. The finish is long, and a look forward to trying it again.

Clean and quite elegant but where is the fruit? Bonnaire and Diebolt-Vallois are making textbook sensual cramant champagnes but this is not as good. Disappointing.
Ripe pear and green fruit nose with lime, wool, slight nuttiness and fresh herbs. Dry and fruity palate with refreshing acidity, decent moussé and pear marmalade -like primary fruit. Some bitterness and some autolysis towards the refreshing aftertaste of medium length. Harmless stuff. A refreshing sip anyhow.

Discrete mousse. On the nose smokey mineral notes, ripe yellow fruit including yellow apples, sweet hints of honey and canned peach, and some toasted hazelnuts. Fresh and fruity on the palate, notes of citrus, yellow apple, some notes of peach, high acidity, some mineral, fruity and fresh aftertaste. Conveys an impression of sweet fruit although it's quite dry, and has a lightness although there is good aroma concentration. This combines into a very elegant aperitif-styled champgne. Bottle purchased 2011-02.

Very good. Yellow and vibrant bubbles. Large and elegant. Precise with crisp acidity and supporting wood. Everything is working together like a swiss clock. I'm enjoying this very much. Using Riedel "O" champagne flutes, the ones that don't have a stem. Not sure about them but they look kinda' cool? I paid $59 for the Mumm and I would have paid a few bucks more for this.

Tasted double blind. Light-pale golden color. Plenty of bubbles to start. On nose shows pastry, marzipan, green apple. Nose is quite attractive. On palate seems quite young, smooth, carbonic a bit too present, pungent, some green flavours, medium to long finish. Wasn't expecting a champagne based on that youth on palate (89/91)

Wow, what a great bottle of Champagne. THis is my new favorite mid priced sparkler. Light yellow hue. Fresh aromas of lemon custard and white peach with a hint of brioche. Very creamy in the mouth with soft flavors of lemon drop. Just a hint of vanilla and yeast in the close. Overall, a very pleasing and drinkable wine.

Popped and poured. Medium-light gold hue, fine beading. Aromatically refined, with yeast, stone fruits, carr's water biscuits and just a touch of spice and lemon zest. Very light on the palate, crisp and refreshing; with flavors of apple, a touch of citrus, and minerals. Not too sweet, the heightened acidity keeps this very fresh on the plus finish. Although lacking in complexity, this is a great bottle of Champagne for the money.

Pale golden hue with very light demi-mousse bubbles. Initial aromas of baby powder and mixed nuts quickly give way to a distinct ripe pear and fresh fruit character. On the palate, up-front, rounded flavors of green apple, lemon, spice, and minerals are distinct. Bright acidity shows through the clean, medium finish. A Blanc de Blanc champagne made solely of Chardonnay grapes from the village of Cramant, Côte des Blancs, classified 100% Grand Cru.

Slightly disapointing after the grand review given by RP not long ago. Tannin still very much in evidence, good nose and palate of bread dough, light red fruit. Rather large mouse which is not to my liking. Maybe this one needs a few more years to strut its stuff. Not bad value given the recent run up in Champagne pricing.

100% Chardonnay or Blanc de Blanc made exclusively from grapes grown around Cramant one of the 17 classed Grand Crus in the Champagne region. Medium size persistent beads of bubbles. Bisquity yeasty notes and ripe yellow apple. Dry, full bodied in the mouth, tart mouthwatering acidity, medium length on the finish. L0640700792 (which I assume is disgorge date of 64th day of 2007) engraved on the side of the bottle near the base not on the punt as some have stated. Microwave popcorn aromas followed by a sharp spike of acidity that gets run over by an insipid blob. Blech.

Rich and full, with citrus, hazelnut, and bread, in that order. I might've spotted more if I had been paying closer attention, but I did notice the zesty acidity and a solid mid-length finish. Good stuff, but you can find better bubblies at this immodest price. (Others have mentioned Tarlant and Jacquesson, which would be superior alternatives.)

I found this to be very ordinary. It has all the right pieces. Yeasty nose, citrus attack and mineral finish. But it tastes like champagne you made in the lab, trying to simulate something that tastes just like champagne. Which is, I suppose, a way of saying it's generic, lacking character. I guess I've gone completely to the dark side of the farmer fizz.

Light lemon with a slight green tinge. Fine bubbles. On the nose a lot of chicken fat, apple peel and yeast. After an hour or so there was a slight incensy note. On the palate, good acid, flavor of lemon zest. The finish was sort of waxy with a touch of residual sugar and flavor of sugar cane.

Very delicate. Elegant and sophisticated, yet not very complex. Light color. Abundant mousse. Not especially lively, because its a Cramant. Lower pressure results in less effervescence. Golden yellow colour with a lovely maturity on the nose showing butterscotch, milk chocolate, minerals and some roasted almonds in a delicious way. Smoothing acidity on the creamy palate combining minerals and lime zesty citrus notes with a very pleasant fruitiness on the finish that is giving a perfect lift to the finish and overall feeling.
However making Champagne cuvées with lower pressure is still allowed in Champagne, just not to use the name ‘Crémant’ on the label…

(Disgorged in March 2012, base year 2006, 100% Chardonnay from Cramant)
Lovely intense yellow colour with a greenish hue and a stream of very fine bubbles.

Wonderful butter caramel and citrus flowers notes on the maturing nose combined with cream and butter. Smoothing lime citrus acidity with a lovely creaminess on the mid with a nice and lengthy finish showing some drying fruity sweetness. Very voluptuous and easy to drink in large sips.

Intense yellow colour with a lovely and gentle stream of very fine bubbles that lead way for an explosion on the mature nose showing chalk, cream and citrus flowers at first, before opening up with marmalade, toasted bread and coffee notes in a delicious way.

Gourmetklubbens fyrtiofemte middag: Tema Havets läckerheter (Södermalm, Stockholm (P+A)): (Disgorged in September 2017, base year 2013, 100% Chardonnay from Cramant)
Light yellow colour with a greenish hue.

(Disgorged in February 2015, base year 2008, 100% Grand Cru Chardonnay from Cramant)
Very pale yellow in colour with an endless stream of very fine bubbles that lead way forte still very youthful nose dominated by citrus fruit and spring flowers at first before showing a lovely cream and chalkiness turning into raspberries and with that lovely Cramant expression.

Mumm Dinner with H (Österlånggatan 17): (Disgorged in spring of 2017, base year 2012, dosage 6 gr/l, 100% Chardonnay from Cramant)
Light yellow colour with a stream of very fine bubbles and with a delight nose showing citrus, minerals and nuttiness in a very youthful style.

Still disappointed in the wine. Not bad, just not quite good enough. Maybe I overscored it. Modest fruit and too much tannin. I doubt the fruit will outlive the tannin. Better values in the market.

Fairly disappointed, nothing really stood out. The nose was a bit muted along with the palate and finish. Maybe it will flesh out in the future but for my first impression I'm a bit down on this one.

The palate has more green and yellow apple with a hint of citrus on the finish. A good quality sparkler that is up front and tasty. 3.5

Different experience than I had with the last bottle. This one was more crisp on the palate, with notes of apple and yeast accompanied by a refreshing acidity. Still not the most lively bottle of champagne, but a definite improvement from the last bottle.

Most of my glass went into the dump bucket. After a pure Champagne like the Tarlant the gobs of butteriness that "distinguish" this wine were especially intolerable. Like a bad California chardonnay with bubbles.

Rich, but with outstanding depth and balance, this medium bodied effort offers tons of spiced apple, biscuit, preserved lemon, and almond flavors that glide effortlessly on the deceptively light palate. On the sweeter side, but impeccably balanced, with a smooth, downright delightful texture.

Smooth mouthfeel into a dry profile. Excellent lingering acidic finish. Saw an eBob RP rec'd and glad I picked up a 6pack for the holidays.

Lot A12, disgorgement date unknown. From memory - this was a very good but not great champagne. I appreciated the fine acidity and fresh, bright fruit, but the wine tasted rather young and was somewhat lacking in complexity and aged aromas/flavors. We all preferred a bottle of Taittinger Prelude from last night.
