Decanted one and a half hours in advance. As you would expect, some Browning on the rim, but a lovely deep garnet colour from a bottle bought en primeur for about £5 as part of a half case. High neck fill.
Lovely faded blackcurrant nose with an earthy background. On the palate, round, spicy, slightly earthy. Nice long warm finish and a truly delicious old claret to drink. Not past its best by any means, but will not improve.

One of a three vintage vertical from a friend's cellar. Double decanted a couple hours ahead. Closed at first, unyielding on the nose and on the palate. Seeming rather dull, with apparent low acidity, yet in the background were ample dark fruits. It took another 2 hours for it to really wake up, finally revealing leather, cigarbox, dark cherry, cassis, baking spices and rather firm tannins. Best among three vintages this time (83, 86, 88).

Recent purchase. This must have been stored extremely well. The cork was pretty soaked but the wine itself showed no bricking. Tertiary elements abound with some dark red fruits bringing the wine together. A nice, if not special, example of aged Bordeaux.

Interesting clean nose of cedar which is telltale Bordeaux. It has stayed together and is quite balanced with remnants of fruit and tertiary flavors matching the healthy acidity. Not crazily complex but a testament to how long lived Borseaux are even at the Cru Bourgeois and lower ends of the 1855 Classification. 37 years and this wine is a very honest drink that may have peaked already but you would not know as it is still a very consistent package. Low ABV of yesteryear so eminently food friendly. The experience is not world's apart from an aged quality Loire Cab Franc.

Leather, dark fruit, tobacco, and underwood on the classic Bordeaux nose. Soft tannins with good acidity and dark berries and leather nose on the palate. Good finish.

This wine is still drinking well but has clearly peaked. As expected from Moulis, the earthy character comes through a little more. It doesn't have the elegance of the surrounding villages. Still very enjoyable though, especially with food pairings. Drink soon.

A private dinner at a friend's (Waver, Ouder-Amstel, NL): Elegant and refined for a Moulis, still remarkably juicy and lively, classical style, perfect weight, good presence and length, very good for age. Goes to show that provenance is everything.

first of six bottles. The timing was excellent for opening this bottle. I did not decant as I wasn't sure of the status of the wine and would not recommend decanting except just ahead of serving. classic Medoc nose with fruity, earthy and spicy elements. Not quite as refined as top wines from Pauillac and St. Estephe, but still excellent structure and aromatic richness. Slightly more rustic, fuller style; perhaps more reminiscent of Fronsac. The tannins are still present but of excellent ripeness holding the wine together nicely. If well stored, drink over next 3-5 years.

Still great! Have a case of these and this was the 6th consumed. Two were bad so far but the rest have been fabulous. Definitely showing their age, though.

Spicy nose with tertiary notes of mushrooms, underbrush. Some vegetal notes and campher. Complex but not necessarily seductive. Quite good presence on the palate and medium finish. Tannins fully resolved.

Bill's Monthly Lunch - May 2010 (Vancouver, BC): Dark red with browning hue throughout. Claret nose which makes the ’99 Castello seem much less Bordeaux-like now. Great nose with bell pepper, coffee grinds some tobacco and mature red fruits. Tart red flavours on the palate. Slightly grainy mouth feel. Good amounts of acid and tannin. Drinking very well now. Excellent.

Aromatically - spicey jammy cherry, mocha, old cement tank lining, and grilled meat and gravely minerality. On the palate slightly underripe cherry with initially some course mid palate tannin that resided after being open for 1 hour. medium density with an ever so slight clear and orange outside rim. The wine clearly has some bottle aromas and flavors indicating of an old wine but this wine has held up better than average and will continue to survive for another 5 or so years. Nice wine slight dry tannin on finish and huge minerality on palate. 70%cs 20%mer 10%pv

En Primeur campaign for the 2022 vintage Day Four (Bordeaux): From Double Magnum. Dark hued fruit, sweet spice, earth and mushroom. Fresh, tannic burr, the fruit translates to the palate as well, tannic burr, long. Lovely.

Slight leakage up the cork. Past it's prime, and not very drinkable. The same vintage in magnum was still fresh. Oxidized?
