Bought on auction recently. Medium amber gold. Floral notes, dried lemon, dried apricot, dried apple, pineapple, beeswax, light honey, tea, light spice, and signs of bottle age, with lively acidity and good length. Some residual sugar, yet the wine finishes chalky and dry, even lightly bitter after some aeration. Evolved, and slightly oxidized, but still very enjoyable. Food-friendly. Drink up. 90(-)

Retail $50. I bought 5 bottles of this wine fro Cinderella way back in 2012 and this was the last bottle from that purchase. While tasty and fantastic, this wine is clearly, well, a bit tired. Well past golden and onto amber in the glass with citrus, apple, and a decided oxidized note, this has that "Yes, it is old, but there is still plenty to appreciate here" kinda vibe. Much more of the same on the palate and while I have downgraded this (at least in terms of points) from previous bottles, it is still pretty fantastic.
Retail $50. Single vineyard field blend of Riesling, Muscat, Pinot Gris and Pinot Blanc. Deiss touts this as a Premier Cru, which means basically nothing in Alsace. Well, perhaps it should based on this wine. It has been a couple of years since I have opened a bottle, but I would venture to say it has improved. Sure, the golden--even amber--color causes some concern, but the lovely, rich nose of ripe peach, tropical fruit, and honeysuckle allays those fears almost instantly. The palate, while touched by a kiss of sweetness, is gorgeous with weighty fruit, balancing acidity and incredible depth. And the finish here is off the charts. Whoa.
Seeing as I still have four of these left, I thought it was time to pop another. I was honestly worried by the rich golden color, but there are no signs of oxidation on the nose. Rather, there are aromas of yellow apple, lanolin, and a smidge of petrol. Initially, there is a healthy dose of acidity on the palate, followed by some faded fruit, the weighty lanolin, and a touch of sweetness. Very nice. thedrunkencyclist.com

I bought several of these a while ago, but have not cracked one. This was another case of wanting to try out a few older wines to see where they are before packing them up for the move to Texas. If this bottle is indicative of the others, there is no need to panic. Rich, tropical yet still fun, the wine is wonderfully balanced with great acidity, fruit, and just a hint of sweetness. Giddy-up. Outstanding. thedrunkencyclist.com

Color: Light golden yellow Smell: Alcohol, peach, pear, baked apples, and dried nectarines Taste: Peach, nectarine, pineapple, green apple, and lime. Overall: Very Good...but this used to be Outstanding. I wonder if I'm not being patient enough or if my demands are getting greater.

Pale wheat in the glass with no discernable nose. Honeyed water on the palate with an after-note of lemon curd. No real body or anything much really to speak of. Disappointed.

Consistent with previous bottle in terms of aromas and flavors but the alcohol showed a touch on the nose this time around and the acidity seemed a little less vibrant. Still, a really complex and enjoyable white wine that paired perfectly with grilled sausages and sauteed cabbage and apples.

Color: Light golden yellow Smell: Alcohol, poached pears, baked apples, and dried nectarines Taste: Peach, nectarine, pineapple, green apple, and lime. Overall: Very Good...but this could have been Outstanding. The alcohol is too overpowering for me to really enjoy this as I have in the past. Medium body, med acidity, medium+ fruit, and promenent alcohol present on both the nose and the palate.

Rich, yellow-gold with maybe a slight greenish tinge to it, the wine is very viscous. The nose is very much like a surgical glove at first, like latex with talcum powder. After a little time in the glass it moves to a more floral tone with both pink and white flowers. It actually smells a lot like a bottle of Tums dusted over pears and white peaches. On the palate, there is a good shot of grapefruit-like acidity, but also more mellow star fruit and apricot. There is some good orange rind bitterness, plus some light savory, such as coriander and cilantro, and also a tiny bit of residual sugar. There is a slight oiliness to the otherwise smooth mouthfeel, and the wine coats and fills up the palate with strong flavors that will stand up to substantial foods and enough acid to cut through fat. This would be a great match with cheese fondue. The wine is a strange field blend of indeterminate mix (I've seen various listings of Riesling, Pinot gris, [Auxerrois, Pinot beurot,] Pinot blanc, Muscat, Sylvaner, Pinot noir, and Chasselas), co-harvested and co-fermented. It is one of the more interesting white wines I've had recently, with a very long finish. A stunning QPR at $20, it is worth twice that. So sad that WL is now sold out. I would re-up for sure. This is a producer I plan to remember.

This is a blend of riesling, muscat and pinot blanc (?). Delicious wine with nose of white peaches, tropical fruit, a bit of petrol and herbs. Candle wax, peaches, seashells on the palate. Great mouth feel too.

A single vineyard blend of Muscat, Riesling, Pinot Gris and Pinot Blanc that is absolutely gorgeous. I love the fresh mix of tropical fruits, pineapple, honeysuckle, green tea, floral and slate. This is very fresh, clean and mouth-watering with a hint of sweetness making it extremely tasty. (Drink 2012-2028)

Light golden color. White peach and a touch of honey on the palate with a nice acidity to keep it in check. A little touch of petrol. Nice as it warmed up a little and had some air, very enjoyable.

Light, golden color. Petrol on the nose, light lemon. Nice mouth feel, lemon curd. Good, sparkly acidity offsets the viscous, slightly sweet mid palate. Short finish at first. Let it sit open awhile and the finish becomes very, very long. Nice complexity.

Light golden color. Great nose of honeysuckle, white flowers, crushed rocks and stone fruit. On the palate this wine showed definite quince flavors with stone fruit, a touch of honey and some minerality. Really complex aromas and flavors all wrapped up with some really zippy acidity. Very long finish. This wine was really excellent and was a steal for the sale price.

Tight aromas with only a little juicy melon and fresh straw coming through. More juicy melon flavors on the medium body. Great acidity keeps this lively all the way through the finish.

Honey and white fruits - almost Gewurtztraminer in smell. Not very floral. Starts with that Reisling fruit and "sweetness" but resolves into nice spice and a great long finish. It drinks itself. This is really delicious.

Color: Light golden yellow Smell: Quince, citrus, deisel, and oyster shell Taste: yellow apple, ruby grapefruit, Gala apple, and hints of nutmeg Overall: A very complex wine that needs more time. Acid ++, med+ fruit, light-medium body, and a wonderfully chaotic finish that is somewhere between 30-45 seconds...check in on this in 3-5 years.

Alsace vindag 31 jan; 1/31/2011-2/1/2011 (Operaterassen, Stockholm): Dry, strict but elegant and with a long finish. This is a wine that I think would be better off not being compared to a lot of sweet super fragrant siblings at a wine fair with too many people and too little time. Still, in the noice and generally horrible surroundings, it came across as quite something extra. Should be one of the best food wines of the evening.
