Drank side-by-side with the Castle Rock Mendocino County. Of the two, I actually liked the nose and the fruit on the mid-palate of this one better. (The Meno Cnty was too sweet.) However, the finish was harsh/bitter which I did not like at all. Yes, this wine is cheap but it still is not worth it to me. My wife liked this one just fine (and preferred it to the Mendo Cnty.)

Fairly generic and industrial. No real flaws, just very simple. It seems as perhaps there was an attempt to extract more than the fruit could resonably give, as there was slight harshness about it. At least it offered some true "pinot" flavors.

not bad. Could have been a lot worse, I mean. Lacked depth and the fruit was a little tired (kind of a neat trick for a 2007 in early 2009?), but for a restaurant wine, I thought it delivered. Food friendly.

Interesting. A little heavy on the cherry, almost like a cherry candy, but without the sweet. herbal notes. Would be nice with pork or lamb; put a little chill on it.

I liked their Monterey County bottling, but this one is plain bad. Weak dark cherry fruit dies on the palate, then a wall of cheap-tasting oak falls on top of it. I love wine and can't afford to waste it, so as a rule I don't pour a bottle down the drain unless it's flawed. I made an exception for this one.
