Great wine, elegant and intense, the oak and extraction are very well judged in this vintage in the sense that the fruit is not overshadowed by any external element, the wine is very refined, very pure. It gradually became more complex and more intense in an elegant manner after 5 hours of air, which is not what La Turque is known for. This wine is just too young, it is still primary, and it should be drunk either after a 24 hours decant or in 10 to 20 years. Lots of potential ahead.

served about 30 minutes after decanting. A little dusty on the nose, with notes of leather. Not bad, with some fragrance and sweet fruit on the nose. Acidity was relatively high on the palate. Not nearly the beautiful La Turque I was hoping for.

Complete, exotic, lovely. This is in a happy place in its secondary phase, with soft fruit and beautiful spice. Appealing garnet color, plum, and incense. Uncertain about the long term future of this wine, I'd be inclined to drink sooner than later and enjoy it in its current superb state.

Pulled the cork and got an immediate hit of bacon. Ah Côte Rôtie! Once in the glass it wasn’t so much bacon, but plenty of roasted meat, smoke, deep cherry & plum fruit. The palate was even more impressive, as it carried the flavors along a layer of bright acidity that made the wine fresh and amazingly food friendly. Tannins kicked in on the finish, but we’re not at all obtrusive. Finishing the wine about four hours after it was opened it remained rock steady. Fabulous showing, and tons of time to go. No regrets opening this bottle. None at all.

drank 2 hours after decanting. Acidity was higher than expected. Smoke and grilled meats on the nose, but what happened to the fruit and floral notes? After 2 hours and 15 minutes it showed some cooked fruits like stewed prunes. Some 3½ hours after decanting this showed some lead pencil. So disappointing.

Spicy black fruits with a touch of sweet fruit on the finish, pepper, and olive brine. Still structured on the palate, but there's a delicateness that weaves through. Long, lingering finish.

Lighter in body than you might expect, but gorgeous on the nose and the palate. Lacks the power of the 2001 Penfold's Grange that we had with it that night, but it's definitely the more interesting wine. Sublime. I see no reason to wait longer to drink it.

Just opening up and showing a fantastic floral quality. Really fine and elegant on the palate with delicious dark raspberry fruit and a savory, smoky quality. The finish is very silky and finely complex with notes of violet spice and licorice. A great vintage for this wine and drinking better than the La Mouline right now. Expressive, well-delineated nose of dark fruit, roast meat, and iron. Broad, expansive, and savory on the palate. While certainly a large-scale wine, the 2001 La Turque offers a surprising elegance, packaging intense and concentrated flavors into a light body. Drink now through 2028+.

Best of the flight with an 04 Landonne and Mouline. A touch sweeter on the nose. Candy mixed with spices. Good tannins. Also sweeter on the palate. Drinks bigger than the 04s and more mouth coating. More and more spices coming out of the glass the longer this sits. Really good. At this stage this can probably benefit from a decant of an hour plus.

Has definitely improved since 5 years ago when we tried this but a few more years will definitely help it. Needs a bit of decanting and we did for approx 1 hour. Class act of Cote Rotie, spicy, cardamon notes on the nose along with dark fruits, light roast meat touch but more of a fruit/spice mix nose than the evolved nose we loved in these wines. Very elegant and complex with good depth on the palate but really just starting to show its charms. Needs another 5 years we feel. 93 for now

Tasted next to 2001 La Mouline and La Landonne. More backbone compared to La Mouline a bit more meaty, spicier with more dark fruit, less floral. On the palate certainly more backward with more powerful, but nevertheless ripe and polished tannins. On the palate lots of fruit, structure and acidity in near perfect balance. Wonderful lift to the super persistent finish. Not only my favourite of the three LaLas, but also my WOTN. Approachable, but I would keep La Turque (and La Landonne) a bit longer. 96-98

Senndoff (Adrian's Apartment - Chicago, IL): Drank alongside the 2002 Turque, this was far more enjoyable to me...which wasn't all that surprising. There was still a lot of oak lingering on the nose and palate, but it had a nice pure core of dark fruit, earth, and something like bacon. Some of the newer LaLa's seem to get overrun by the oak, and while it's a part of this wine, the fruit is winning out. Maybe give it some more time to let the oak recede a bit more? Or, age will just give the oak more of a starring role...I'm really unsure.

Senn-d off: This is definitely a step up from the 2002. Reading my old tasting note though, I have to wonder what I was smoking at the time. Vosne-Romanee? Seriously? This does have elegant crunchy red fruit on the nose, with a slight tinge of blackberry thrown in the mix. The vanilla note is still there, but definitely much more restrained here. The palate is a lot denser and richer than the 2002 as well, so it does handle the oak a lot better. Slightly peppery, with really tasty acidity. Still quite light (is it the viognier?). Decent syrah, but this really doesn't come close to the masters.

As I have usually found the least impressive of the three La Las. It is designed to combine the best of Mouline and Landonne but winds up falling between two stools. What it does have is a dense and gritty mid palate, huge power and concentration, and kinky exotic overtones and New World exuberance. There is little balance and not a lot of complexity here, and no personality or finesse either; just unalloyed power. Clinical and soulless.

From an enomatic machine at the Sampler. Nose reminded me of berries that warmed up in the garden during the mid-day summer Sun. Sweeter on the palate than La Landonne, unexpectedly light body. There's pronounced tomato leaf aroma on the nose as well as Eastern spices, like cumine, this also had more accidity than Landonne. I liked the wine, but not for the price.

RODANO vs. ITALIA (RISTORANTE TRE GALLI TORINO): Degustato alla cieca. Probabilmente bottiglia non al 100%. Granato avanzato, torbido, opaco, molto sedimento.

Bright, crisp, acidic and fresh in character, this is still young, tannic and while its expressive, it requires a few more years to come together. That being said, this will probably remain on the crisp side of the style range.

Siggy's BBQ Featuring a Trio of 2001 La La's and a Bevy of 2001 CDP's (Siggy & Jenny's Place, Mpls, MN): This was more close knit and took some time to open in glass, but after about 30 minutes this really began to shine on par with the others. This was the biggest, deepest, spicier, white pepper, blackberry, blueberry, more tannin showing. This eventually develops its perfume and carries an impressive finish. Needs a little more air than the others. All 3 of these had a slow-O for six or so hours I believe.

The theme of this flight was - one grape, four countries, served blind. The grape turned out to be syrah, and the countries were Australia, France, Italy and the U.S. Wines ended up to be 02 Clarendon Hills Astralis, 01 La Turque, 02 Sine Qua Non Just for the Love of it, and 01 Macchiole Scrio. The first three were all terrific and only the Scrio couldn't stand up to the competition. For me, the SQN just squeeked out a victory over the Guigal, with the Astralis just a whisker behind (maybe I've been watching too much horse racing this triple crown season). The La Turque was medium-plus body, with black fruit, smoke, some flowers and a long finish. Maybe not as much bacon as you sometimes get from this wine. This is a good time to be drinking this wine. Perhaps it would have gotten an even better score served by itself and not compared in my head to the same wine from even better years. Small quibbles for a terrific wine that totally pleased the crowd.

2001 La, La shoot out. Medium ruby. Nose of black fruits, oak, quite complex but with a touch of alcohol. Medium bodied on the palate with present tannins and pronounced acidity but not as bad as in the La Mouline. OK, but I have seen much better Turques that this bottle and, needless to say, wine in general in this price range.

I'm afraid I don't agree with many of the comments posted about this wine. It was four square, and the classic bacon fat, sexy aromas and fruit were conspicuous in their absence. The wine could be going through a dumb phase, but several hours in the decanter did not coax it into showing the wares one would expect from this wine. Disappointing.

A great Cote Rotie but unfortunately paled in comparison to the 2nd Rhone wine of the evening (CDP Marie Beurrier from H. Bonneau). A very "feminin" wine. Will most likely not purchase in the future, I believe there is much better value for money in that appellation.

Dark purple with no significant signs of bricking. Reticent nose, with some dark fruit aromas, dominated by black cherry, though there's a hint of peppercorn as well. On the palate, there are again notes of black cherry, some earthy/iron oxide notes, as well as significant black peppercorn flavours. Tannins have started to mellow, but it's quite obvious that they used to be quite chewy. Long finish. A very clean and incisive wine; balanced between the acidity and fruit. If it weren't for the prominent peppercorn notes, you could mistake this for a Vosne from a hot year. Excellent now, but will certainly benefit from more age.

G6 (Petite Maison): Dark purple color. Blackberry fruit with barbecued meats on the nose. Tastes of blackberry, black cherry, cedar, and violet. Grapey mid palate with some chewy tannins. An evening of Guigal La La's, Champagne and a few treats! (Scott & Jo's): Purple color, ruby rim. The nose has spice, charcoal, black raspberry, and dark cherries. With air some dusty, leather notes emerge. Seemed like a middle ground wine of the three. Complex and youthful, it is starting to show some layers and depth. Incredible texture. Great balance. Great wine.

This huge wine has wonderful dark rasberry and violet fruit with hints of pepper and spice. The tannins are ferocious and somewhat rustic making this almost impossible to drink now although the quality of the wine is quite apparent. Will need long-aging but certainly has the stuffing. We'll see but to drink this now is crazy.

One of the finest Rhone wines I have ever tasted. The nose has the elegance of Burgundy, on the palate there's abundant spice, black and red fruits, and outrageous structure. So many layers, so much to contemplate, soft but substantial tannins -- in sum this is the epitome of elegance. Brilliant! (Note this wine was decanted for about 3 hours prior to serving.)

Aromatically one of the most unique profiles from a wine I have experienced. It had a intense nose of clove, flinty, wood-fire, incense which was continually evolving over the evening to present aromas of coffee, and roasted meat. On the palate it was a multilayer-ed wine with nice complex flavors and of medium density. The palate was slightly disjointed in that the tannins on the finish were not extremely fine grain and were not entirely harmonious. The nose was better than the palate. Way to young. 42 months in oak and 6% viogner. If the palate was better this wine would be scored higher

Saturday Tasting Group (Knightsbridge Wine Shop (Northbrook, IL)): First La Turque. Gorgeous streamlined spicy raspberries and dark cherries. Heady and voluptuous. High acidity with firm tannin structure. A distinct flavor of star anise is interwoven in the dark fruit and roasted and expansive espresso bean driven finish. Fantastic bottling. If I could afford it, I would purchase an '01 to put away for ten or more years.

dinner with brad england in minneapolis, my bottle. double decanted 2 hours. it's a rare treat (for me) to drink the three la la's side by side by side. this vineyard was a bit lighter in depth of fruit, and characteristically reticent. on the whole, i prefer the 99s, but in retrospect, collector's should be holding these wines at this stage in their development. i would expect them all to improve.

Ahhh La Turque.À mon sens, presque un vin parfait.
Il le sera dans quelques années à mon avis.
Poivre long , fruits rouges confits de petite jeunesse insolente.
Une longueur incroyable et soyeuse.Millésime assez moyen mais une grande bouteille.
Un petit côté roasted et de tabac blond.
19/20 +

This huge wine has wonderful dark rasberry and violet fruit with hints of pepper and spice. The tannins are ferocious and somewhat rustic making this almost impossible to drink now although the quality of the wine is quite apparent. Will need long-aging but certainly has the stuffing.
