I should note that this NV bottle had been cellared roughly 8 years after purchase. That said, it was big and weighty, with lots of bread and nut on the nose and on the palate. We drank this alongside a 2008 Goutorbe Special club, and comparatively this bottle was extremely rich and unsubtle. Both bottles were fantastic, but on two different sides of the champagne experience.

Part of the meal/wine pairing at NéMo in Tokyo. Lemony on the nose. Fine bubbles. Dry and elegant on the palate; more angular and lean than round. Short-ish finish.

Popped and poured after the Gonet-Medeville BdN 1er. This is also mostly Pinot Noir however with 20% Chardonnay. Comparatively, this pours a more pale color, again with a persistent mousse. Aromas of white flowers (specifically citrus blossom), white peach, and ever so lightly toasted brioche. On the palate, white peach, pink lady apple, lemon and minerals. Good acid. Long finish. Lovely texture. This came across as a noticeably more rich, refined, and elegant Champagne and it made a beautiful pairing with my selection of Mussels Dijonnaise. Disgorged August 21, 2018

Wimpish Christmas (La Trompette): Not sure of base vintage or disgorgement date, but tastes relatively mature. Floral nose - lavender? Nice, festive sense of richness, with dried fruit and some sharper orange pith-type notes. Lovely way to start the meal.

2015 base. Great combination of rich fruit - citrus with a compelling hint of apricot confit - a really energetic freshness and savoury overtones. Felt notably dry but not excessively so. ***1/2++

One of my results from searching out Grower/Producer Champagnes. Light notes of brioche and pear on the nose. Opened up beautifully to a rich balance of acidity and creamy mouse. Tasted with Dom Perignon champagne glasses (not flutes).

Sauer - Ziereisen - Jura - Champagne; 9/9/2020-9/16/2020 (Escherndorf - Efringen-Kirchen - Arbois - Cramant/Bouzy/Verzenay): From 75cl P+P at Jean Lallement, Verzenay. This is the green-label bottling Lallement refers to on his cellar door price list as "Tradition", although that designation doesn' t appear on the label. 80/20% PN/Chardonnay; thereof 80/20% 2013 and 2014 wines, 6g dosage. Disgorged February 2020 (no disgorgement information on the label). Bright lemon scent; bone dry entry with fine, pin-prick bubbles, lacks the intense mid-palate fruit complexity of the Réserve and its resonant finish, so if you love superb Cava this might appeal strongly. Excellent value for 18€ at cellar door. 89-90P

I liked this quite a bit. Agree with TT that this may be the NSG of Champagne - kind of on the wild side. Only quibble here was that it didn't have nearly as much life as it did on day one.

4th Saturday Group: Global Cabernet Sauvignon (Our house): Nonblind. Disgorged April 21, 2009. Whereas my last bottle of this same disgorgement was very nice, this one was quite advanced, despite a perfectly sound cork and youthful pale color. A touch of apple on the nose and palate, but a pronounced sherry overtone dominates. A bit better on the palate, with a bit more of the fruit coming through.

Terry Theise Grower Champagne Tasting (Plum Market - Chicago IL): Tasting, brief note. Very Pinot Noir oriented. Very bready and soft with lots of red fruit character (80% Pinot Noir) made from 2013 (80%) and 2012. Came across as slightly tired. Some thought the first bottle corked, so they opened a 2nd, which I thought almost identical.

Terry Theise Grower Champagne Tasting (Chicago, IL): The first bottle of this was corked, and it seemed no one was a big fan of the wine to begin with. The second bottle was sound, but still not very inspiring. A bit herbal, with some other tones that I couldn't place. Lots of browned apple flavours here that didn't integrate well with the rest of the wine.

I purchased my bottle of this wine in 2001, so it is at least 16 years old. Decisively shows how ageworthy this non-vintage brut is. The pour is medium yellow and translucent, with zero oxidized brown in the color and a citrus nose with zero butterscotch. Minuscule bubbles saturate the wine in a flute without breaking into long perlage strands. The first sip features another foamy release of bubbles on the tongue, with bright and refreshing acidity embedded in a smooth and caressing texture. Absolutely delicious by itself as well as supremely starring with a lunch plate that included salmon, pitted olives, pickled red peppers the size of the nail on the little finger, German potato salad laced with smoked bacon bits. a mango and carrot salad, and various spreads.

Disgorged FEB 16. Medium golden hue to the glass with moderate bead. Mostly based on 2011 stock with some reserve wine added in. Good effervescence. Hints of lemon oil, peach, and biscuit on the nose. Significant acidity on the palate with well delineated notes of lemon peel and tangerine. Short / abrupt finish as the sparkler does not seem to fan out well. Some bitterness on the back end.
Not a bad QPR at this price point for a NV ($40), but I prefer a richer and more oxidative style ( Bollinger, Vilmart etc..)

Unknown disg. (pre time of label disclosure) estimated 2008 or 2009. Removed cork and allowed to air for about 20 minutes in ice bucket. While I find the blue label more to my liking when tasting young samples side by side, this older bottle has proven to be quite age worthy in several tastings. Very fine bubbles and still a good amount of pressure produced a delicate mousse and the wine is smooth, well balanced with some nice pear and golden apple notes and mature nutty and bread dough notes (aged but not overly oxidative . Lacking a bit of precision but makes up for it in it's easy disposition. Overall a very nice showing, especially considering the price of admission.

Slight nutty note with a rich round palate and searing bright acidity in the finish which was nice. Fine bubbles and creamy mouthfeel. A bit past its prime for this non-vintage, but really not bad, plenty to enjoy on the palate.

I also didn't know what to make of this wine. I suspect drinking a whole bottle would nail down my opinion towards it. There was some mushroom funk on the palate, with citrus and high acid.

Taste: Medium bodied with medium+ acidity. The feel is rounded and balanced with red apples, fresh baked bread, baking spices, and some citrus notes.

Disgorged 11/22/2013. Full bodied and noticeably toasty on the first pour. Rounds out nicely with some time in the glass. Not necessarily the ideal pour for a holiday party. It's not that playful. More at ease at the dinner table or in front of a wood fire. I think I might pick up a few more of these and put them away for a couple years. It's got all the right raw materials, but will likely benefit from some time to further integrate.

I've had two bottles with varying disgorgement dates recently, last night's was 5/16/2012 and another back on Christmas that was 4/16/2010. Liked them both very much, though they showed quite different profiles. The 2010-DG bottle had a considerably more matured profile, perhaps a bit more than it should, along with some notable oxidative notes. But it was still sharp and deep, and very beautiful with a breakfast of buttery scrambled eggs and white truffle shavings. The 2012-DG from last night was considerably fresher than even 2yrs less bottle age would suggest, with an assertive Pinot noir profile that leaned toward the red fruited end of the spectrum on the palate. Rich and vibrant, but very precise and seamless all the way through the lengthy finish. No oxidative notes on the younger bottle. Among the better QPRs I've come across, and I need to buy more!

Popped-n-poured; consumed over 4 hours. Showed more complexity between hours 1 - 3 than could be experienced in the one-hour, 6-flight tasting on 12/24. Yeast elements came more to the forefront, and the citrus more defined. Bumping my prior score from 90 pts to 91.

2nd place in a 6-flight, grower-producer, champagne tasting. Other than the evening's Rose offering, the Lallement had the best nose concentration of the line-up; especially after about an hour after opening. 80% pinot noir / 20% chardonnay. I’ve noticed a trend with these pinot-heavy blends, like this one, that they tend to push the “bready/yeasty” notes to the forefront; which I really like. Just the right amount of acidic crispness to hold up to some lighter foods; but not too acidic.

Like drinking a great white wine that has been carbonated. Plenty of richness that comes more from the base wine (pear, baked white fruits) than from the Champagne treatment--though some toast & yeast are certainly there. Has acidic cut that doesn't derail the wine--still broad through the finish, with good length.
Went great with several courses of a meal, especially baked shellfish.

2011 Masters of Wine Champagne Tasting (San Francisco, CA): 80% Pinot Noir, 20% Chardonnay. Bright yellow color. Rich and intriguing nose: red cherry and citrus with a subtly earthiness. Heavy Pinot-dominated palate: ripe red berries, apple, mineral, and some interesting burnt floral notes. Medium length finish slightly leaning towards the sweeter side. A great value with much to contemplate, though a little rough around the edges in a positive sense.

This is a very distinctive and singular bottle of champagne…. After some time in the glass to aerate and warm up, an aroma of truffles permeates the nose..very clear and distinctive. No mistaking it for anything else. The palate follows through bright and fresh with some lingering pungent earth flavors on the backend… a very unique and individual wine. Fascinating grower champagne. I’m wondering if this is a hallmark of Verzenay vineyards or Lallement vineyards in particular? Give this some time to open up, and you’ll be rewarded. Back label indicates a disgorgement date of April 21, 2009. I'm always somewhat taken aback by the richness and bulk of many wines from the Montagne de Reims, and this non-vintage, 80% Pinot Noir, 20% Chardonnay cuvee is no exception. On opening the first impressions are of sliced green apple and buttered brioche toast. And when I say 'buttered,' I mean it - there's almost a pastry dough richness and a texture that while not exactly reminiscent of California Chardonnays is more luxe and palate-coating than I've found in the majority of non-vintage Champagnes. In this it calls to mind a number of Pinot Noir-based bottlings I've had from producers like Rene Geoffroy or Henri Goutorbe. All well and good, but... it's only after about an hour of airtime that this gets really interesting. The profile slims down a bit to show more chiseled cut and the wine begins to express itself a bit more through angles than spheres. A honeyed quality emerges, as well as elements evocative of oats and fresh cream. But so does a hint of green herbs, maybe sorrel... sorrel gets a lot of play in Champagne notes, doesn't it? I'll bet most people have never had enough sorrel to identify its flavor, much less pick it out in their Champagnes. But I digress. Anyway, there is a green, herbaceous note that comes out here, but the top notes of apple, cream, and cereal grains remain dominant. This is Champagne that's hit the gym and packed on some muscle; fans of the feathery style might find this broader than they prefer. But while the wine's big-boned it's not clumsy, and the complexity that emerges over time reveals its class.

Alcohol : 12% WOW! What a nose! The honey toasty and yeasty note soared from the glass and immediately grab my attention. Deep, toasted coconut with fresh green apple, pear follow by roasted herb and bitter oak flavor that is complex, and, attractive. Still very young, the high acid entry is quite sharp but quickly melted into creamy mouth feel that's explode with green apple along with fresh white bread, almond nut and butter cookies notes. The finish is long and persistent with lots of mineral aftertaste, not really dry. Delicious! A wine of grand cru intensity and quite complex though the depth is not up to par, but with this asking price, it is hard to find the fault, only if one wanted to nail, it would be the quality of the moose as it is not as refine, in fact, a little bit rough and sharp. However, despite on this, I would love to grab a bottle for a hot afternoon without any hesitation. Buy - Yes.

Light yellow to yellow color in the glass, clear hue throughout with fine but light beading. Odd aroma up front I can't really identify but seems very rustic, meaty like. Some other odd component that I can only say smells like sauerkraut. Very strange! Flavors of tangy apples, pears, light mineral. Bright acidity, medium body. No rating. Seems like an off bottle or I have no basis for truly understanding this wine. No visible disgorgement information.

Moderately deep color, reddish hue at rim, moderately fine mousse. Aromatically very fruit driven with plenty of red cherry, raspberry aromas... plenty of stones, no hint of barrique influence... moderate amounts of toast... no sign of oxidation. On the palate the wine is big and masculine with very firm acidity, full and rounding midpalate, low to moderate dosage, fine effervescence, and weighty/creamy mouthfeel. A balanced wine with good length and intensity... moderate + complexity. Certainly finesse and a full/firm texture here... very expressive of its Cru status and village of origin. As noted by others this is not delicate Champagne and does do better in Pinot glass than flute... very impressive.

Amaretto, iron, minerality. Almost a bit like a decomposing fruit note. Or something. Sinuious. Alongside Pehu Simonet it makes an amazing statement about Verzenay terrior. With far more push and shove then the Pehu, not nearly as charming. But packing allot of stuffing. I think this one needs time to show its hand. Frankly, so complex I can't get it off my mind. And far better in a Riedel Pinot glass too.

I took this over to Anwar and Trigirls house to celebrate their successful completion of the ironman race. Disgorged on 2/27/04 with 90% of the juice coming from 1999 and 10% from 1998. 80% Pinot Noir and 20% Chardonnay. This is an extremely small craft producer who owns 4.5 hectares spread among 20 parcels in Verzenay and Verzy. Mostly limestone soils. Half of his vines are more than 30 years old. His total production for all of his wines combined is 1700 cases. Very terrior driven. Lush with a nutty and creamy character. Not completely dry. Good bead at first but it but is faded in the glass. Yes, yes, yes, yes! What a great Champagne. I was serving seared scallops and squid tonight with a light lemon sauce, and I wanted to serve a fizzy with it that could stand up to the shellfish as well as the smokiness from the grill...mission accomplished. This is a fantastic food Champagne that brings out the subtle shellfish flavors while accentuating the smoke character of the food. Racy acidity helped cut through the food and served as a great accompaniment as well as a great palate cleanser in between bites. Highly recommended.

Excellent bottle of Champagne. Medium fine mousse and bead and a great texture that's creamy and racy at the same time. Unmistakably, I could taste hazelnut flavors and none of the citrus and apple peel flavors I usually look for in my BdBs. Regardless, stunner bottle. Also...I don't know what the dosage on this is, but I'd guess it's fairly high. The wine has a sweet fruit edge to it and the texture seems less racy tan most Champagnes I drink. Amazingly, in this Champagne, it worked great for me.

Gold in color with a vigorous medium mousse. A very nice non-vintage champagne with good aromatics and distinct hazelnut and earthy flavors. There were fruit flavors that ranged between a plum (unusual for Champagne) and Asian pear. It was reasonably complex and could improve if the bubbles integrate more. This had a bold style - think Bollinger with more unique flavors but maybe less sophistication. [~$40 on release]

100% Pinot Noir champagne: much more elegant, rounded flavor than usual blend. Great pleasure to sip. Most champagnes are "NM - Négociant-Manipulant" i.e. A producer who buys grapes in volume from growers to make champagne. Jean Lallement is "RM - Récoltant-Manipulant" i.e. a grower who produces his own champagne from his own grapes. And you can taste the difference. (No hangover)

This is a non-vintage from Vezernay, but according to the neck tag, it is all from old vines (> 30 years) from the 1998 vintage, 80%PN, 20% CH, disgorged 21 October 2003. As the blend suggests, this is a full-bodied rich wine in the Bollinger style. Still youthful and with good acidity, it needs a couple of years to settle down, but the balance is excellent and the length good. The tag suggests drinking it between 6 and 9 years old, which sounds about right.

Nonsense value on this Champagne, what an absolute gem.
Filled with toasted notes, which is what I’m looking for in a Champagne.
Downside is bubbles disappear quite quickly.

Nose: biscuit/arrowroot cookie, maybe a hint of lemon meringue.
Palate: rich raspberry-citrus, nice malty bite, tongue-coating and juuuuuuuust not quite dry.
Was advertised as a "gourmand's champagne" and did not disappoint. This is a lusty friend with food, as opposed to an austere refresher.
Major recommend. Exactly what I am looking for at least half the time in a bubbly.

WOW! Buy - Yes.

Sparklers and Pinot (Farpointe Cellar): The nose had burnt rubber and flowers, spice and berries, and some yeast at the end. The palate had quite a bit of weight for a Champagne. It had spice and earth, some apple and citrus, and a very floral finish.

Picked up some Chaource and as suggested opened this. Must be an older bottling, no disgorgement date indicated. I vaguely remember the newer bottlings show a date. Anyway, beautifully ripe red berries and apple. Ripe nose, not too yeasty, but enough for complexity. Balanced acidity. Not austere, but cleansing and refined. Medium bodied mousse, finishing with stonefruit and citrus peel. Fantastic.

Well rounded. This tasted older than it was. 89 points.
