Stunning quality ripples through this wine that has a brilliant balance between dense, compact fruit and the lightness of Chambolle. Takes some time to flower but this has very fine-boned structure onto which hangs fantastic fruit - delicate yet persistent with lavendar, white flowers, black fruit, spices. Brilliant for a village-level.
Decent Chambolle aromatics, but this is lean, somewhat medicinal, and borders on being austere. The tannins are quite dry and the finish is strikingly metallic today. This wine certainly improved in the decanter over a couple of hours, transforming into something a bit more elegant. Overall, a disappointment. Of note, the 2008 Mugnier CM is strikingly better. Consumed over a few hours and the remainder of the bottle on day 2. Frist from a six pack -- guess I'll sit on the rest for at least another year and hope for the best.
Truly lovely crunchy fruit and flowers on the nose, following through on a lush mid-palate and very positive and nicely balanced finish. Hedonistic but elegant and really excellent for an 07. With time in the glass, and without food, this became a bit more disjointed with a noticeable oak influence. But it's still young and I'm not planning to drink it without food. Delicious.
Chambolle Musigny (Arlequin Wine Merchant, San Francisco): Light color. Very sexy nose of smoke and red fruit. Light weight, overwhelming core of high char oak which is just too much for the delicate fruit of the vintage. Good acidity. This is the most dressed up Mugnier wine I've had, not at all a good thing in any vintage, but especially a lighter one. Its initial seductiveness was very short lived.
2011 Casual Session - 1 @ ES (Extra Space Boon Keng): Alcohol :: 12.5% I was really looking forward to this as I have been impressed by wines from Mugnier masterclass last year. The nose is slightly more expressive that the palate with its seductive and deep tone of sweet cherry, spices, herbs, wet earth and acid core that show the freshness of the wine. However, the palate is totally shut with firm structure dominated the mid palate and quickly faded into diluted, light finish with trace of wood. Hmm.... Hope to re-taste this in another 5yrs. Buy - No for what I tasted today.
A much more serious 2007 than many that I have been enjoying. There is something in reserve here for the future, the wine, while lovely and classic Chambolle, is restrained and demonstrates the classic indications of future potential for improvement. Decanted for approximately 2 hours prior to enjoyment. Check in again in 5 years.
