6/12, vg cork. Pale/medium garnet core, pale garnet rim. Aromatic, dark fruit - dark cherry, touch of plum, grilled meat, notes of mulch. Medium bodied, lovely pure dark cherry fruit, grilled meat again, refined, soft tannins, fresh acids, good length harmonious finish wioth just a touch of herb. Superb, showing some development now, drinking really well but absolutely no hurry.

Ninth bottle from a full case purchased in 2011. It is clearly fully mature by now, black tea is noticeable both on the nose and on the palate. Black and red berry fruit, soft and juicy, cool minerality, tight and energetic palate, grippy finish with good length. Still charming. Drink soon.

Light to deep red. Brownish rim. Poweful nose of wet leaves and other secondary aromas. Ripe garden fruit and flowers. Silky and elegant. Ripe fruit, still acidity. Complex with good lenght. Great with the Magret de canard. Not getting better, so drink up.

Clos de la Marechale Vertical (Decatur, GA): Cloudier crimson color; almost Grenache-like on the nose, leather, Brett, medicinal plum, funky and different than others in the flight while providing a softer structure and intensity.

This is much better than the last bottle I had. It’s a little bit reductive initially but that blows off with a bit of air revealing lovely blueberry, kirsch, spice and licorice aromas with a lovely leafiness. Fleshy and supple on the palate with earthiness, fresh minerality and zippy acidity. Lovely.

Upon opening, beautiful pure fruit and floral aromas, but the palate was flat and hard. Over time, the nose evolved to sweaty saddle leather (brett?) and finally after 2+ hours this blew off. The palate also unwound and started to reflect the promise of the nose. In the end I very much enjoyed this wines detail and precision, but it was a complicated relationship. Threw some sediment.

Pop and pour. This time my wife said it: this is good, but is now inching downward. On the nose: soft game, cherry, brown sugar, spice, bark, savory herbs. On the palate: good acidity up front, cola, root beer, soft medicinal herbs. Fantastic density, and completely secondary, but leaning tertiary. A touch of tannin hanging on at the finish. In a very good place, but definitely beginning its decline.

Blind tasted. A reduced and funky nose - brett in abundance here - which is quite distracting. It went off after 3 hours of decant. The palate is silky with abundant red fruit, rich sap lifted by decent minerality and finishing with decent length. The tannins are well integrated now, and I do not see any upside now, so drink up or hold. It can be kept several years though. In Premeaux, south of les Vaucrains, the limestone is similar to the Cotes de Beaune, and the wine feels a little not from Nuits...It is a good wine, but I am wondering if this is worth the price.

Cool airy notes which initially consisted of wet grass and green funk that evolved into sour plum, vanilla, cherry and cassis. Needs around 2 hours but keeps fresh on the nose even after 5-6 hours. On the palate the tannins are quite well integrated with just enough acidity to keep it interesting. The finish was medium and had good depth. I do like this vineyard alot and the pricing is excellent.

Absolutely in the zone right now, but I don't expect that this vintage of this wine is going to get much better. On the nose: loads of wet leaf, gamey, meaty red fruit..yummy funk, some cinnamon spice. On the palate: excellent acidity and density, venison and sweet red cherry, soft spice and attenuated tannin on the finish. Singing, and this btl was completely mature.

Opened ~5 hours earlier. 2007 Burgundy continues to delight me at every turn, and Marechale is no exception. Pours a medium red, turning into orange/brown at the rim. Full of floral, savory aromas -- classic NSG -- but with enough red fruit and lightness to bump it far out of the 'challenging' NSG category. Some cranberry, sour cherry, and raspberry. I haven't been fortunate enough to try any of Mugnier's other wines yet, but structurally this is absolutely brilliant, and emblematic of what I understand his style to be. Elegant, 'ethereal', and incredible depth considering it's otherwise casual lightness. This is singing beautifully now, and still seems like it has plenty of life left. I will continue to search for more...

NSG 1er Cru South (Chicago, IL): Single blind and also reasonably easy to identify as the 2007. The most ready, at peak and enjoyable vintage of the flight. Attractive, enticing nose of raspberry, red cherry and spice. Plush, round fruit on the palate is mid-weight with nice length and seamlessly integrated still-grippy structure. Should hold for 5+ years, but no need to hold. Wine of the flight.

Eighth bottle from a full case purchased in 2011. More fruit (mainly blue) and charm than the bottle tasted in April 2020. Gentle and supple, elegant and refined (especially for a Prémeaux), airy and flowing, almost creamy, but with a good charge of finely-grained tannins and a long and minerally finish.

Singing right off the bat on the pnp. Love the vintage for Mugnier. It’s elegant, airy and pure with a simultaneous intensity. Sweet red cherries, hibiscus, dried flowers, sous bois, minerals and exotic spices. There is layered complexity and terrific focus. Lifted, harmonious and persistent finish. Beautiful. 07 red Burgundy drinking so well right now!

Bright red fruit on the nose with a hint of brett. Lovey in the mouth, again some brett and forest floor. A slight green, vegetal note, not distracting. A good effort indeed.

Maybe my favorite Marechale so far. On the nose: bright cinnamon and cardamom, soft leather, sweet pomegranate, soft earth and game. On the palate, excellent acidity, more spice and soft leather, soft spiced plum, with a grapefruit lining. On the finish, very finely grained tannin and sweet blackberry.

Tasted over 3 hrs -rich dark red minimal clearing -heavy reduction blows off, slightly cooked fruit aromas persist and a bit of sous-bois emerges -med acidity, med weight black cherry fruit with an animale element and earthy undertones that carry through to somewhat coarse med tannins -this bottle seems a little off and more rustic than expected for the producer and vintage

Aromatic with oakspice and campfire scents. Lovely texture - ethereal and tender, very satisfying. Fruit has a bit of a weedy, reedy streak like many '07s do, though.

Sehr gut entwickelt!

Another bottle with a bretty start. After a couple hours in a decanter, the brett blew off and it opened up with lovely dark fruit, earth, rose petal, and savory herbal notes. Mid weighted, supple and sappy on the palate with a pretty core of red and dark pinot fruit, more earthy and ferrous notes, and floral perfume. It's a subtle, finessed wine with fine tannins and a softness to its texture. A lovely, sappy, understated wine. Again coming across as a NSG with it's heart in Chambolle. At peak with plenty of time in hand. Pretty delicious with morels, leeks, and fresh peas over tajarin. 91

Sometimes you encounter someone and fall in love with her/his elegance, inner purity, of his/her soul's modesty and depth. As you speak to her/him you only discover that you are being lifted to an enchanting state and feel very closely drawn to the conversation and its flow. Well, this bottle was so close to my description above; Upon opening its scent, its aroma was so attractive, so uplifting that we only could emit an expressive noise and being nearly knocked 'up' to another sphere of expectations. So poetic, so refined, yet focused and yet profound. The nose of red flowers, red fruits just starting to enter its second phase can't be described with words, not even nearly. To get a sense of what it had offered on the aromatic profile, one simply has to have had the privilege of having a good glass in the hands, so magical it was... On the palate, it is so pure, and simply gorgeous. The texture is like of freshest streaming water, the flavors of red fruits are translating its past 13 years with poetry of precise words, nuances of shades and literally making you feel this wine has its own vocabularies of intelligent and graceful expressions to tell its story in seamless flow. So well balanced between the terroir, fruits, and the (moderate)vintage and yet by adhering to 2007 as naturally as possible, it provides an extraordinary moment of time travel. As I am writing this the next morning, my spirit is still being lifted up, as if dreaming of our world in such perfect harmony. Its modest vintage has in fact made an elegant, most attractive and suave Clos de la Maréchale. All that much poetry, nuances of flavors were indeed in an exquisite balance with each other's elements; as if listening to a memorable Schubert Lied, by a singer who understands both the poetry and its musical flow. Cheers,
Seventh bottle from a full case purchased in 2011. High time to revisit this after 18 months. Lively and quite structured, fresh and minerally, clear and transparent style, firm tannic grip, crushed red berries and forest floor, light but long finish with a hint of gunpowder tea. Fully mature but drinking well now and over the next two years.

Pnp, crimson in color, nose of wild red berries, elegant oak spice. Light on palate, but with ample substance, commendable for 2007, like the Musigny Amoureuses tried in the past, it's all about balance and elegance than power. Finish showed sign of hawthorne. Lovely effort.

5/12, vg cork. Medium garnet core, pale garnet rim. Nose is moderately intense, developed, showing plum, bilberry, forest floor, soil. Medium bodied, darkish fruit, forest floor, elegant with gentle tannins, touch of liquorice, moderate acidity, good length harmonious finish. Quietly spoken but articulate and now showing a bit more Nuits St Georges character.

From Magnum. Expressive nose of earthy scents, spices, sandal wood. The palate is tame and soft. Good aromatic complexity but I miss the energy of the 2008 which I recently had. Still, well made for a 2007.

Some brett on this bottle as well. Underneath it, and after it blows off, is a well proportioned midweight, earthy pinot with mossy, herbal tones that compliment it's supple red fruit. There's nice sap balanced with a lightness on its feet. I like the earthy, savory and ferrous tones here that in this bottle shine a little more than the fruit. There a grace that is a nice juxtaposition to the meaty- earthy tones of NSG. Good length and finishes with a little basil, cool herbal tones. A NSG with it's heart in Chambolle. Lovely and drinking at peak. 90

Tasted blind next to the 08, was fairly obvious this was the 07. The profile of this wine is much more about soil and earth with hints of red fruits here and there. The 07 vintage was lighter and more expressive in the beginning and is maturing at a faster pace than the 08.

Tasted blind. Easily identifiable as Burgundy- light red, sour cherries, slight stemmy quality. Definitely representative of the vintage, but balanced if on the leaner side. Drink it if you have it.

From a vertical of Mugnier's Marechal 2004 to 2016. The most positive surprise of the tasting (although not the best wine). LIght colour, certain signs of maturing at the rim. Beuatiful nose dominated by tertiary aromas like camphor, cedar, leather and tobacco (one of the tasters said "pickled tobacco", and although I have never smelled that I fully understand what he means). Medium body, sweet attack in the mouth, nice sweetness dominated by dried cherries, as well as clear nutty tone. Fine acidity, almost no tannins left. A mature NSG without any hard edges, just a pleasure to drink.

This bottle is ready. There's a menthol note, and dark fruit, but also a somewhat flat feel to the wine and, despite being still fairly structural, it's lacking much in the way of vibrancy or detail. Decent but unremarkable.

(375 ml) Very approachable in half. Red cherry and raspberry, earth and mushroom, gets quite floral with air. Nice balance, lovely wine though I probably wouldn't guess NSG at first, more feminine like a Chambolle or Volnay. B+/A-

A little barnyard, brett on this bottle. Nice NSG earth, cherry fruit, florals, moss and cooler aromatic herbal tones. Supple and with nice sappy texture. A nice mix of the wild side of NSG dirt but with its heart in Chambolle.

Fragrant and floral nose, crushed red berries and a touch of undergrowth; the palate is very much in the delicate, elegant, feminine Mugnier style, but the phenolic grip on the finish is surprisingly potent, especially on the second day. This is now on its plateau of maturity and should stay there for another five years.

Same btl as R&Rler. More NSG tonight than Mugnier. Most of the time Mugnier's world class winemaking more or less converts this his NSG to Chambolle in weight, texture and accessibility. Tonight the structure was over lording the; charm, richness and finesse I associate with Mugnier's NSG. Perhaps the vintage or the company it was keeping at the table made it seem less exciting than usual. Be fun to try this again on its own or not in the company of 25yr old resolved Burgs. Oddly, I somehow missed buying this vintage.

Very bitter upon opening, but really transformed by 3-4 hours decanting. Delicious, pretty for Nuits (err, Premeaux), surprisingly light on its feet, really enjoyed. Happy to have more but I don't see myself starting to buy this wine again. Still, open season to start to consume these.

1 glass Coravined. Served at 15C. Beautiful, complex nose, bilberry, dark plum, spice, soil, sweet yet savoury, with a tow of undergrowth. Medium bodied, darkish fruit, spice, actually a little touch of herb which offsets the sweet fruit nicely and adds to the whole, balanced acids, very fine, soft tannins, which just tickle a touch on the very good length finish. Remains excellent, drinking well, no hurry. Finished 4/6 - perhaps some deterioration - the fruit not quite as pure

Very nice indeed, but didn't blow my hair back. Straight out of the bottle you could smell that it's got 10 years on it. Day 1: Pleasant nose of red and black fruit. Rather rustic texture. Day 2 the "old" smell had all but blown off. Better and more balanced. Since an absolutely fantastic '11 last year I've had '07, '09 and '12 but honestly none of them have come close to the '11.

7th of 9, pnp, perfect cork and level, previous notes VG+ or better - pale red, browning rim, leggy though; strawberry and cherry fruit, sous bois, touch of meat, surprisingly classy; medium/light, long, persistent, nice balance, not particularly concentrated and vintage's lack of matiere obvious, nice fruit flavours though and possibly nicest bottle yet having had a brief sulky period late '15, drink. Stunning aromatics, showing a gorgeous, lifted nose of black cherry, wild herbs, dusty soil and hints of sweet spice. It was juicy at first on the palate, yet closed up quickly, displaying tart red fruit, inner florals, and iron rich minerals. It finished on sweet herbal tones of dried red fruits. Good color with rim starting to brick, peppery nose, dark fruits, cloves, on the palate a very attractive mid-weight cherry fruit, slight pepper notes (from the oak in part), finish of moderate length, the wine has a certain polish to it that is a bit in contrast to the rugged style of Nuits St. Georges but it is a pleasurable wine to drink and admirably reflects its origins in all other respects. Ready to drink but should hold. ***, now to 2020.

The best bottle that I have had so far of the 2007 JF Mugnier Clos de la Marechale. Very expressive. Served blind to group and most raved on about the wine, but few guessed Burgundy. Most found it closer to a 1990s N. or S. Rhone with some Grenache present. I thought it had a beautiful Pinot nose but then again I knew what we were drinking. Silky on the mouth, rich without being tongue-coating. A polished wine with plenty of acidity and spice; softer tannins. I've been hearing that 2007s red Burgs from Cote de Nuits are starting to drink well now....this was clearly the case here. Can't wait to try more.

a Superb wine just now entering its mature stage. Gorgeous transparent red color displaying beautiful shades of transparency on its edges. The aromas are incredibly refined yet precise and uplifting; Rose, small red cherries, spice, profound identity of clean wet stone mineral from the cotes de nuits in its best. Before describing the flavors I cannot bypass the texture which is simply divine and is as close to silky, finesse, or a stunning Violin upper singing tone as it could get. There is transparency and yet laser like precision and all the Roses, gorgeous fruits, slight black pepper, and just unbelievable flavors open and display like a rainbow on your palate. I feel silly trying to describe this as one really should and must experience such finesse in life. My wife justly described as; this is close to heavenly... Cheers,
lovely and moderately expressive nose of wild strawberries, leather, anise and something undefinable and charmingly floral. Firm and sappy on the palate, with good length, however closes a bit down and becomes more hard with some time. I will give these two more years to go.

Tonight this wine ran a bit hot, flat on entry, and a bit oaky on the finish. Decent fruit and mouthfeel but the balance was off. Clumsy and lacking integration this evening despite decanting. Hopefully this is not a representative bottle or simply entering a dumb phase. Third bottle from a case. Hold and hope?
Nice nose. A bit light on the palate, and not really showing well at this point. I was surprised given the expressiveness of many 07's. I'm generally rotating 07's into current drinking, but this should stay in the cellar for a while longer.

Two years and one day since my previous bottle and it has been worth the wait. Showing really well today, open and energetic, in a very feminine and delicate style, light and fragrant but not diluted and the fruit is ripe, all silk and grace, with just a hint of earth to remind you that this is from Prémeaux and not from Chambolle. Seamless and fresh, with juicy fruit of redcurrants and blueberries, roses and violets, perfect oak integration, mineral energy and lovely elegant tannins; good length. Drinking beautifully in a still relatively primary stage, will age well.

This is dark, showing dark raspberry fruit, sous bois and a slight mocha note. It is nicely cohesive, with fuzzy tannin and a suave texture. A few hours later, after dinner, this is more resolved, more relaxed, still rather dark and the palate is a blend of raspberry and a smokey/funky element. Purchased at Fouchon in Paris and enjoyed before and after dinner at Le Dauphin (which was disappointing).

Another beauty from 2007. Opened an hour and a half ahead of dinner, needs its time an dare we suggest one decants this. Open, very nice nose, nice dark fruits, light smoky. Good wine overall albeit still a bit young and although not austere still hasn't developed to standard. A few more years will do wonders for this wine and definitely worth its money. Very good albeit early and not evolved. 91 and with a good future ahead.

again this is a nice wine, this time it is med++ body, fruit is dark red (not what i would call elegant per se), there is definitely some unintegrated oak in the wine at this point, will be better as that fades, this wine is decidedly more round and appealing early than many '07 burgs, very nicely done, especially for the vintage

this wine changed a lot over three nights, kept its edge (acid more than tannin) well throughout, and developed some savory, secondary interest over nights two and three, i think this has promise with time, if you open now i would decant maybe 5-7 hours to give it a chance to unfold

Clean nose, medium intens with aromas of; Leather, mushrooms, forest floor, red berries.
On palate it's dry, medium aciddity, body, alcohol and flavour intensity. Medium+ lenght and aromas of rasberry, red currant, forest floor.
very good wine, typical burgundy but i feel that this lacks certain qualities to be geat. Intensity is not there and neither is the complexity and concentration. It is silky soft and beatifull, but it's not worth the price and did not compete with the other pinot noir wines this night. had bigger hopes for this.

Pale/medium garnet core, pale garnet rim. Nose is open, aromatic, floral with pure black cherry and strawberry fruit wafting from the glass, vanilla, merest hint of game. Medium bodied on the palate, more red fruited than the nose with strawberries, vanilla, soft on the mid-palate, fresh acids, expands nicely on the very good length finish with a touch of savoury game. Excellent, continues to drink well.

Tasted along side the 2005 and 2011. Medium to light red in color. Some noticeable sulfur on the nose that blew off with air. On the palate, this also borders on under ripe, but slightly riper than the 2011. Some green notes, but mostly tart red and black cherry with good spice and a little earth in the background. Shows good intensity on its medium to medium plus finish. Very nice showing for the vintage. Placed 2nd of the 3 tasted.

This has softened quite abit in the year and half since I last tasted it and while still with a somewhat masculine mouthfeel, the dark red fruit has rounded and has very good depth and heft. There's also earth, nutmeg, abit of of leather and greenish under brush notes. For me this is in a good place today, but I think it has a long life ahead of it.

Superb bouquet, almost Chambolle like. Notes of dark fruits, soil tones, spices, and oaks. Sweet and smooth on entry, still some unresolved tannins at the middle but relatively short finish. Label indicated 13% alcohol with no heat, good balance. Certainly approachable now like many '07 burgs. Better on the nose than on the palate, Chambolle producer for a NSG. Could have better length and complexity, lacks a bit of depth and intensity but what a nose!! The nose alone probably worth the price of admission. Does not show as well on the 2nd day. (B)

The 2007s are sitting in a place right now that make them very quaffable - reasonably priced (relatively), with all that fruit layered on top of a fine boned structure. This Mugnier is absolutely on point right now - super refined fruit delicately inter-twinned with lacy tannins - all finesse and elegance with just a touch of secondary aromas coming out. Really excellent value as well here. Bang on.

Medium colour; this has mature, woodland notes, mixed with berry fruit and vanilla oak. Not the fullest of wines: in fact, it is slightly dilute. However, it is a good example from a lighter vintage.

Nice wine; earthy with sous bois underlying the textbook burgundy flavors here. A buy for me in every vintage. Drinking well with some air time but still early in the drinking window.

Blind Wines @ Salil's (Vernon, CT): Deep and bright, showing savory spice and shimmering cherry fruit. Dried flowers and a hint of minerals. The acids are grippy and could use a bit more time to round out. Seems to be just entering its window of enjoyability.

TTTG Blind (Vernon): Mostly bright fruit but with a slightly muted rusticity. Surprisingly low tannin but quite marked acidity. Medium-plus bodied, but incredibly elegant. I drank my last bottle way too young, but it is certainly drinking very well now. My second favorite of the night.

Third Thursday blind tasting group at my place (Vernon, CT): Drinking beautifully right now. Lots of bright, sappy red fruits accented by gentle floral and earthy notes, all conveyed with a remarkable sense of grace and lightness on the palate. The tannin here is incredibly fine grained and most of the structure seems to come from an acid spine that keeps it very fresh and lively.

Loved this! Balanced pinot fruit of sweet dark cherries with ample of amount of tannins to make this wine complete. Freddy's signature winemaking style is all over this as it has that Chambolle finesse .

Medium colour, showing some maturity; fresh raspberry and cherry fruit, with lively acidity; no more than medium weight, as the lightness of the vintage is evident. Attractive now, but should keep well for a while yet.

A fairly deep colour, showing some maturity; good raspberry/plum fruit, medium weight and with some development in flavour. Clean, fresh and enjoyable now, but not particulary intense. Decent enough for the vintage.

Tastes more like Mugnier than Nuits, which is a good thing in my book. Forward dark fruit, harmonious in structure and length, already fully ready to go.

Second bottle from a case, last tasted I see about two years ago. While the nose is open with spiced dark red fruit, at first this was surprisingly flat and mute on the palate. In fact, I was more than certain that this was either an off bottle or certainly in a dumb phase. With time, however, this evolved nicely, as the balance and interplay between fruit, mineral, and acid emerged. Dark murky fruit, dirt, wet leaves, spice. Evolved. Blind, I would have guessed solid village Gevrey or perhaps Vosne. This is a nice drink, not overly complex, but very Burgundian, nice length and finish. If this bottle is representative, I'd recommend drinking now with a moderate decant.

This is quite open and developed, with good secondary flavours and reasonable weight and length. Perhaps a bit lean, but that's probably the vintage. Very enjoyable and drinking well now.

Nice red crunchy fruit. Elegant but without a lot of depth or intensity. This is the good thing about the 2007s, they are accessible and drinking well. But not built for the long haul. Good to drink while other things ages.

Un sussurro gentile, so sexy!!!

Medium ruby core, medium pale garnet rim. Youthful but complex nose, dark fruited with black cherry, touch of blackcurrant, distinct floral top note along with liquorice, smoke and a herbal twist. Medium bodied on the palate, dark, smoky, yet seductively sweet fruit, touch of raspberry too, sophisticated, soft with vibrant acids and smoky, savoury notes coming through on the long finish. Nuits with more than a touch of Chambolle, but it works, a lovely wine, certainly approachable now but with a long life ahead of it too.

Very pity that I have just popped and poured... this wine really needs to be opened a few good hours before being savored. My own mistake as we were close to finish to bottle that's when it just started to open up. I am glad I still have a few bottles, and surely will know when and how to serve to get the most out of it. No point for now.

Took a few hours to come out of its shell. Even from 375, this is in the very early stages of being drinkable (read: too young). Nice cherry aromatics and round, pleasing palate. Just a little drying on the finish. It did not scream NSG to me, but I enjoyed it nonetheless.

Quite nice. Double decanted for about 1 1/2 hours. This is a fairly rustic, masculine wine with robust red and dark fruit, rich, loamy earth and firm, chalky tannins on the med length finish. Not overly complex but very enjoyable. Revisited at hour 5 and this had softened considerably and developed quite abit more depth and complexity. Raised my score from 90 to 91.

Ruby red. Fresh red berries on the nose, hints of mint. Raspberry and strawberries predominate on the palate with subtle spice, chocolate and minerals on the background. Almost imperceptible tannins. Overall impression of a well balanced wine, fresh pleasurable to drink. Cherries on the finish.

What can I say more than Frederic Mugnier is a maestro. This '07 was yet another splendid wine from not so great vintage. Opened at around 11am for a diner at 8pm, slightly re-corked and back in the cellar during that time, once the roast rib eye came out of the oven, the wine had reached such depth and yet such height that it blew away all on the table. Compare to 2005, two nights before, the 07 was a bit more ready to be enjoyed and it had the deep baritone voice as well as splendid soprano tone lingering in the back end. The Nuits St Georges' Clos de la Marechale has its own soul and voice under the making of Frederic Mugnier...masterful indeed. Roses, berries(red and dark) spices, the mineral and tannin are all there in a round and inviting way, so faithfully. Cheers~

Single bottle, first of a case. Lovely nose, fragrant, bright red fruit, floral (roses), good mineral depth, hints of spicy oak and undergrowth; on the palate a relatively light weight, racy acidity, well judged tannic extraction, real mineral drive, flavours of cold tea, raspberries and red cherries; good length. Closes down a bit after a few hours - there is little charm then. Probably better in two years' time. On the second day it has opened up again and retains all of its freshness; this should age surprisingly well.

Was hesitant to dive in, being my first Mugnier, plus the tepid reviews from Gary V. et al. but was pleasantly surpised by the heft and promise of this. No doubt a toddler, also no doubt closed for biz, but give it 5-10 years for the masculinity to flesh out. Should show lovely when it sheds the shy, preteen, pimply-ness.

On opening, an animal, gamey profile with underlying red fruits and a pronounced earthy minerality. Over a couple of hours, cherry flavors came to the forefront, providing greater balance. Best description I can come up with is "rustically elegant".

A Night of Nuits (Nicolas's): Similar to previous notes. Elegant and feminine. I really like this wine. It would just need the complexity to be turned up a notch to be a top wine. Delicate, perfumy. To drink now.

Not that impressive. Very elegant almost like a chambolle. I'm missing a bit of density. It seems almost dilluted. The 2008 version of this is much better. That being said it is definitely a nice drink. Just not much going on.

Clos de la Maréchale vertical tasting with Frédéric Mugnier as the host. The 2007 CdlM is a textbook 2007. Very Chambolle like in style, and very 2007. Has developed allot since last bottle, and is definitely in a good drinking window right now. Fresh and soft mature red fruit, raspberries, strawberries and some wild strawberries, soft and developed and very balanced with a nice mineral touch. Totally open for business, and drinking oh so beautiful. Elegant and Chambolle like, silky and feminine, with a fine perfume lingering on top of the surface. Perhaps a little short, when tasted next to the 2004, 2005 and 2006 in a vertical. If I was served this wine alone, I think I might have scored it a point higher? 91+

Last tried this 2 yrs ago (88). Decanted 2 hrs, visually little sign of any maturity, ruby red just fading to the rim. Subtle aromas of cherry, earth, almond, all increasing in volume as the wine warms in the glass. The big difference is how the palate has improved, well integrated tannins, the fruit flavours fresh and vibrant, very good smooth long finish. V.gd VFM, drank with Ox cheek suet pudding...which worked very well, no hurry to drink, will try again next year.

Decanted about an hour. At first, there was very little fruit. Some serious awkward earth and spice with a little rustic barnyard. Again, though, it wasn't very appealing when we first dove in. After a couple hours, the fruit came to the forefront. Turned into a nice wine with really earth driven qualities. Dried herbs and leaves. A decent wine that didn't show nearly as good as the last taste. I'd say drink now.

This is surprisingly open and expressive even after 90 minutes of air. Very silky and elegant palate, which to me is more Chambolle than NSG - rich and layered with cherries, chestnuts, mineral and spice. While it lacks some structure and tension to be really special, it is incredibly easy and pleasing to drink tonight.

2007 Mugnier, Arnaud Ente, Meo Camuzet, L&A Lignier, Pierre Damoy, Chateau de la Tour. (Bourgognewijnen , Belgium): The Clos de la Maréchale has a surface of 9 hectares, 76 ares. It is the largest monopole in the Cote d’Or. Tasted from magnum; On the nose blackberries and dark-red fruit. On the palate very approachable, tannins are ripe and fine and the texture is very pleasing all well integrated and nicely balanced. Some pure red cherries and more red dark fruit. Overall medium complexity and very elegant. The finish has a soft silkiness which seemed more Chambolle than NSG. Great wine but lacks a bit of complexity …

1st night: monochromatic, with cassis fruit of moderate richness and a touch of earth at the edges. Very fine but persistent tannins. Perception of acidity is curiously low. Not very interesting, at this stage. 2nd night: a welcome note of savory game creeps in on the nose. Delicate but compressed red and blue fruits on the palate with just a hint of animale and again remarkably fine, polished tannins. Nice texture, but the palate here is still pretty wound up. Acidity still seems low. This needs time.

Great NSG! Decanted for approx 1 hour. Very approachable now, but will most likely develop more complexity with some more time. The nose shows raspberries, some earthy/gamey/funky tones, and some nice spicy perfume. Silky red fruit, strawberries & raspberries. Good minerals to show its origin. Elegant and pure, with a medium + finish. Very silky and nice wine!

Another Saturday at Knightsbridge - mostly blind (Northbrook, IL): Tasted double blind. Approachable fruit on both nose and palate with modest spice. Soft, well integrated and nicely balanced. Well textured and elegant finish. I haven't tasted this wine since shortly after release and continue to be very pleased with this wine in the vintage that I've found particularly tough in Nuits St. Georges.

Great stuff. Very CDLM, very Mugnier, very Chambolle meets NSG with the NSG dominating. Nose is very Nuits in character; palate is focused with bright red fruits, some spice too. Taut with great energy. Drinking nicely now but should be fun to follow over the next 5 or so years.

2 bottles side by side to match up with the magnums. Style. I could end the review at that and get away with it. I'll add the following: Classy. Perfumed. Debonair. Silk. Mouth-watering. Maybe the last great value from this producer and site. Go long and strong here. The price has been very right on this and it's not coming back to this neighborhood anytime soon yet the wine is utterly delicious.

Deep red. Starts mainly with game on the nose, with time red berries also appear making the nose more complex. Floral tones as well as spices. The palate mirrors this, long finish. Fruit is good, acid great making a good balance. I find this being tight at the moment. Yes, it is approachable, but there is still way to go. 2 more years will improve this significantly. Great now, will be better.

This will be a great one, possibly. Elegant mouthfeel. Perfect. Let it breath for a little time. Gonna be an inmense reward for sure. At this point, my sort of NSG. Wow - first bottle of wine I've ever had that not only withstood being open for 3 days (vacuum sealed), but was still much much better on day 4 than day 1. Wish I could've tried this on days 2 and 3. Amazing difference between French and CA pinots, which usually cannot withstand even a night open.

France 2011 - Côte d'Or; 7/8/2011-7/13/2011 (Beaune): Tasted at the Domaine. Nose here is already showing some development with aromas of red pinot fruit, leather and hints of funk. Darker red fruit in the mouth with pleasant acidity and firm but approachable tannins. This, like a few other 07s I’ve tasted, is seemingly approachable already and is offering up lots of pleasure although this will surely continue to age and develop nicely. This would be great with a duck breast. Excellent. 90+

needs some hours in the decanter. Dark fruit intermixed with cherries, very clean and noble. On the palate very focused and mineraly, tight, a yery unterstated wine, that open with time in glass and becomes more and more complex and finess-full. Needs some more time in the cellar.

Tried on a whim but this is still far too young for me to make a judgement... Seems to have all the right qualities but is disjointed and the fruit is masked by oak and tannin. Should have left this in the cellar but just can't help myself ! Will wait at least 2 yrs before trying the next.

Absolutely beautiful nose with dark cherry, floral and earthy notes. Full flavor and a mouthfeel of liquid silk. A breeze of spice fades and, tantalizes the palate and then fades away to leave behind a long finish of earth, mushroom, and a basketfull of berries. A little spendy at $92 but hey - with a 1er Cru Burgundy, if you can get a score higher than the price of the bottle I think you're doing well. ;)

Bred kjerne, vandig kant, lys purpur. 5.

Real deal quality here, the most stuffing of any '07 I've had. Dark nose of black cherries, rich soil and iron is sappy and wonderful, if not extremely pure. Raw material abounds with dark red fruits wrapped around an earthy core of medium grained tannins backed by ample acidity. Very very slightly drying/stemmy finish.
The depth is there, this just needs time, and I think it will be really good in 10 years but may shut down soon. Really well rounded and nice drive, but lacks some refinement.

from half bottle. Seemed like it was just beginning to shut down a bit, but with some air a very nice wine emerged. Dark translucent red purple in the glass. Right from the beginning this offers a superb bouquet of dark fruit flavors including currant and black cherry along with flowers and crushed stones. I really love how open and expressive the aromas are as they show super seductive sweetness, floral brightness, and radiant minerality. The palate opens up with subtly sweet black and red fruits laced with complicating earth and spices. This is focused and grippy with firm tannins but the texture turns stunningly silky for such a young Burgundy. The clay herbal tinge to the sweet fruit on the finish is simply profound. I am surprised by the fruit here, elegant and crunchy no doubt, but with wonderful density for the vintage. This is truly great with no rough edges and a fine balance of fruit, acid, and tannin. I am really pleased with how approachable this is yet it does have structure so I can only imagine it will get better. Exceptionally brilliant for the vintage.

I would have expected a 2007 to be more open, charming and easy to drink at this stage in its development. But the wine was a bit harsh (much more than e.g. the 2004 currently, let alone the 2006), and seemed a bit tin. It's OK, but does require a bit more patience than I expected.

Aromatic with oakspice and campfire scents. Lovely texture - ethereal and tender, very satisfying. Fruit has a bit of a weedy, reedy streak like many '07s do, though.

Not much different than the last couple bottles.

Well, this bottle was so close to my description above;
Upon opening its scent, its aroma was so attractive, so uplifting that we only could emit an expressive noise and being nearly knocked 'up' to another sphere of expectations.
Cheers,

Cheers,

Bang on.

Un sussurro gentile, so sexy!!!

Much more approachable than the 2006, and certainly needs some air. Rather brooding berry and spice, with a stemmy finish. Fairly tight.

Pacific Northwest Tasting Trip Day 2; 4/4/2012-4/12/2012 (Willamette Valley & Portland): Tasted at the winery with Jim.
Darker red color.
Nose of red raspberry, lots of minerals, little earth.
Palate of red raspberry, light earth, lots of minerals.
Finish was above average and good acidity.
Tasted blind, thought it might be a burg due to the minerals.

Too young, a bit harsh on the palate. Had no time to decant before serving. mDeveloped significantly into a more silky touch after an hour. Will save the next bottle for at least two more years. Great potential.

Comparing with Faiveley, are you till a terroir believer? Better believe in producer.
