Wow. My sister dredged this up from some lower shelf of their "cellar", and what a find. Medium to medium deep gold, brown highlights, not a ton of fizz left, but whoa!, the flavours! Wow, instant Top 20. Wanted to slowly nurse a glass or two for hours. Elixir. "Sweet" with complexity, honey, brown sugar. Tons going on here. Absolutely delish.

Light yellow colour with a still youthful and fresh nose showing citrus flowers, coffee, gunpowder and some fresh lavender in a very nice and pleasant way. Hazy notes from last night. Getting darker gold in colour. The nose was lovely, with rich smells including brioche, apples and nougat. The effervescence was on the low side, and the flavours echoed the age of the wine, which showed tertiary notes of caramel, pears, almond and minerality. This bottle showed a little on the older, tired side, but it was still an impressive wine (A-).

A gentler release of pressure upon opening than a typical bottle of bubbles; a modest but persistently lively bead. Full straw to pale golden colored; on pouring, initially no telltale signs of age beyond the color; a very balanced nose and palate of ripe apple, with hint of stone, citrus and a savory note of fresh chive. Classically styled B de B. Complex but very fresh still. Over a couple hours, it mellowed and more closely resembled a fine white burgundy. Delicious.
Its been a while and dont have written down notes, but remember really enjoyed this. Had some nice acidity and citrus flavor, too bad its the last one.

Developed nose with yeast, brioche, corn on the cob, a bit of tropical fruits, star fruit and fudge.
Full bodied, medium acidity that feels somewhat flabby (though it stood side by side with Krug GC so that might have skewed the impression somewhat). Medium+ intensity and length.
Really tasty, not as complex as the others (GAx2, Krug GC, and cuvée William Deutz) but charming and very approachable.

Fully developed on the nose with a medium+ intensity. It is toasty and chocolaty on the nose with butterscotch, syrup, deep tropical fruits, candied lemons, chalky minerality and forest floor.
Dry on the palate with a medium+ acidity and body. The mousse is very soft with small delicate bubbles. The flavor intensity is medium++. Flavors of chocolate, nougat, butterscotch, baked lemons, bruised tropical fruits, toasted bread and baked red apples. The finish is medium+.
Ready to drink now.

Anita's Fortieth (Rochelle Canteen): Magnum. Nicely rich, slightly bruised apple nose. Mousse a bit coarse through the middle though. Finishes well though, but doesn't feel as if it has the class of the 98. Very pleasant though. Coming back to it. Though, it has tightened up, found focus and line and the richer elements have melded. Far better. ****

Stunning, opulent champagne at its peak. Rich mid yellow, with golden tint, fine and persistent bubbles. The nose is intense, reminiscent of an apricot frangipane tart, leading to a biscuity edge and taste. The wine is rich and full bodied, showing that high (60%) Pinot Noir content, balanced with 40% of Chardonnay finesse. The finish is unending, with sufficient minerality to complement the racy acidity and definite dosage (perhaps its only flaw being a slight excess). Wow.

Really good and brilliantly mature now. By far the best of the PR 99's so far. Full, rich, with citrus and orange on the nose. A little brioche and quite a marked oakiness. Full long taste with springy acid and balanced complex tones and some mushroomy flavour towards the end. On top now!

Served out of a magnum. Despite opening the bottle two hours before drinking, the wine was very closed... Simply too young to open. But this is a great wine. The bubbles were very small, acidity was high (with no oxydation), but fruit and flavor were still closed. An hour or so in the glass allowed the wine to develop a little (in wider base white wine glasses), as did the rising temperature.

Popped this during 2011 countdown. Nice yellow sparkle. Red apples, pear, light touch of brioche with a little secondary development. Yes-limply. Has a very nice colour greeny golden and good bubbles. Highish residual sugar. I like Bollinger for the same reason and hence like this. Is the vintage worth the additional price, maybe ...maybe just yes. Opened out nicely as it warmed. But, not large or complex or elegant or any of those higher attributes. Ok.

Lovelly champagne. Did not have any expectations but this wine supprised me. It offered great flavour with a mix of young, fresh citrus flavours and flavours typicall from cellaring such as apple, decaying leaves. A wine still going strong that will problably stay very good for a while.

Alex's Surprise Birthday Dinner (Imperial Treasure, Great World City): Serious champagne, good stuff, but a little stern at the moment. Golden yellow coloured. Nice bead. nose had a touch of cream and a lift of grassy, aspaagus like notes and layers and layers of flinty mineral overlaying white fruit and a hint of biscuit. Very classic. Palate was super-zippy abd bright, a bit too much at times, with the acid coming across a bit eye-closing. Otherwise, very nice, with lemons, lemon zest, white fruit and flinty mineral in a grippy package. Finish was dry and flinty, with more lemon-zest and a touch of bitersweet mineral. Nice and serious, but a bit edgy with all that acidity. A few more years in the bottle to round-off the rough edges would do it a great deal of good.

Suprise Birthday Celebrations!; 12/9/2009-12/12/2009 (Imperial Treasure @ Great World): A serious champagne. Extrremely fresh! and when I say fresh.. I mean lemon citrus FRESH! But on top of that, this also displays some serious bready notes and some rich custardy buttery component. Maybe taking itself a little too serious, this could take out all the fun but on a special night, this is definitely no NV or MV. As reserve and vintage in quality as showable. Rich and slightly snooty.

Tasted in Concord room, London. nose: light lemon oil, faint herbs, cellar dust. palate: reminiscent of lemon meringue (unsweetened). the creamy mouthfeel is somewhat illusory - initially there, it fades quickly to the background. Mushroom dust midpalate, with a medium length lemon finish. The wine is refined, with verve. No hard edges, very compact. Compared to Bollinger Grand Annee of the same year, this is tighter, less bread-y, and more restrained. Personally, I prefer the Bollinger style, but this was still an outstanding effort.

Medium lemon core and water-white rim. Small bubbles and medium persistence of mousse. Pronounced autolytic aromas - this champagne simply filled the room with bread aromas as soon as we poured it into glasses - combined with citrus, green fruit as well as ligth tropical note (banana?) and honey (?) potentially indicating very ripe grapes. Nose still developing. Palate! I just loved how grapes had mixed together and Pinot Noir was playing the major role making a very smooth medium (+) bodied cuvee. Palate dominated again by pronounced autolytic aromas + medium green fruit. Very long length. Outstanding! Ready to drink, but can age. It's Saturday evening, so we had it just like that. No food this time. Cheers!

What could be a more beautiful Old year Champagne breakfast drink than this beuautiful vintage Pol Roger? Exactly what we expected. Try it together with plain strawberries. It will seduce you like nothing else. This really has a presence of PN, and what makes it outstanding is the balance - acidity, toast flavours, body .. nice job there, dear Pol Roger. Actually, quite ready for 1999. Ready to drink, but can keep for another 5 years easily. Happy new year!

Baked Apples, Autolytic, Mineral Chalky, Green Apples, Sour Cream Onions
Conc: Good to Very Good, Ready to Drink, did like the delicate bubbles but found it way to yeasty and out of balance in that sense

Good solid champagne. It has an abundance of small fine bubbles and some really good chalky and nut flavors. I would purchase again!

Crisp, clean, will age beautifully. Not quite there yet, a touch of lightness in the mid palate...needs to fill out.

Ok.

Lovely biscuity nose and citrus and stones on the palate. Young, but close to mature plateau. Enjoy.

Lovelly champagne. Did not have any expectations but this wine supprised me. It offered great flavour with a mix of young, fresh citrus flavours and flavours typicall from cellaring such as apple, decaying leaves. A wine still going strong that will problably stay very good for a while.

Fantastic champagne! Delicate scent with hints of mineral, toast and oak.
Great bubbles and acid. Some sweetness but this is nicely integrated. Pleasant citric bitterness towards the end. Dries up towards the finish, which lasts for a very long time.

Consumed this one at the beach, complete darkness, only stars and sea wave noise together with my wife ... which means my judgement of this particular bottle could be skewed.Anyway, very lovely development since the last bottle, lots of freshness and autolytic flavours, very long aftertaste. Just perfect!

A blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Granny Smith apple, pear, citrus and a good underlying minerality. A bit of butter and nuts. Delightful Champagne.

Cheers!

White gold in colour. Barley. A savoury lifted nose with floral apple notes and autolytic aromas. Baked apples and brown sugar. On the palate there is bruised apples, apple strudel. Very elegant and fine. Caramelised apple notes on the finish. Very fresh and excellent length.
