Truly an ethereal bottle of humble Macon. Fresh with an array of flavours, creamy waxy honey presented with purity. Bit puzzled by a touch of sweetness though. A wine like this makes me feel I’m in the presence of greatness.

Purchased directly on release. Made by the late, great, Anne-Claude Leflaive one of the greatest white wine makers in the world.
Light gold. 100% chardonnay but so pure and crisp. Mineral infused lemon, pear and even a hint of the more exotic… pineapple? Wonderful refreshing mouthfeel, ripe, balanced and refreshing. Good length showing the great purity of fruit. Delicious stuff and you will want more than one glass!
Enjoy with pan seared halibut with a lemon/caper crème fresh dressing.

Still surprisingly youthful, yet pretty simple. Still star bright and light yellow with clear meniscus, but mostly tart lemon on the palate. Nonetheless, was appreciated at the 70th birthday party gathering I brought this to share. TOP TIP: most wine geeks only bring red wines to gatherings. However, when lots of spouses and unknown drinkers are going to be present, I always bring a white wine to share (usually along with a red, too), which is usually greatly appreciated. On 2 or 3 occasions, the white I brought ended up eclipsing all of the varied reds assembed (think 14-year old magnum of Grand Cru Chablis!). Have fun!

Lots of fresh and light acidity. Wine texture was round, full and elegant. Palate was tangy and lemony. The finish was moderate. This wine hits far above the region's status.

Not as bad as the two previous bottles, still lacks fruit and weight but (on the second day at least) there now is a certain intensity of smoky minerals and fresh lemons and apples that elevates this wine to an above average level.

Pale yellow. This wine seems to be getting finer and lighter on its feet than it did a year ago. Retains the saline, mineral notes and feel, but the creamy melon/pear is leaner and has a touch of citrus.

I probably have gone through at least two cases of this wine. I think I've posted about a dozen tasting notes on CellarTracker on this wine alone. This was my last bottle. This wine has provided plenty of good drinking pleasure over the years. I've seen it transform from a clear palate, to, with age, a more tan-hued palate, showing more age and more oak. And now, based on this bottle and a prior bottle last month, we are back to a clear, clean and transparent palate once again. Good acidity, good clarity, no oxidation, no overt oak, good lemon fruit to the palate, with a hit of minerals and juicy acidity on the finish. A good final showing.

Clearer palate than expected, based on past tan palate rather than clear, this bottle showing a hint of nuts and a bit of sour new oak. Good, to be sure, a perfect weekday white, but nothing extraordinary. Drink now. UPDATE: no degradation overnight, vanilla notes.

Drank over a leisurely Boxing Day lunch in the sunshine at Top Deck. Silver green colour like a Sauvignon Blanc. Nose is steely cut combined with lovely melted butter. Palate is sharp fresh citrus and fresh lemon bush leaves. Great cut. Good minerality. A great bottle..... the best of the case, which is confusing because other recent bottles suggested these needs drinking up. Perfect with fresh-shucked raw oysters.

The lovely hand-crushed fresh lemons of previous bottles has changed into a predominant and unbalanced peach stones dry element on the palate that is overshadowing the previously harmonious oyster shells, mineral and saline characteristics of this wine when it was at its apogee a few months ago. The acidity is also a bit too predominant on the back end now. Definitely drink up very soon.....and move on to the 2008 and 2009.

9th bottle from a case of 12 drank during 2011. This has lost some of its zest. Still very enjoyable and great QPR but its previous "specialness" was missing from this bottle. I'd love to think it's entered a dumb phase but my guess is that it has just peaked.

Seems to have lost some of the precision, verve and energy of prior bottles. Palate shows a bit of a nutty quality. Perhaps this wine is showing more attributes of age. Still good, but not as brisk and energetic as in the past. Based on this showing, I will speed up opening remaining bottles.

Drunk with shrimp ceveche and smoked brined shrimp in a vodka cream sauce. Paired very well with the meal. Very acidic, but ends in a bitterish note. Some dark citrus notes, with some lemon rind, papaya, orange rind, buttery oak, and burnt green apple. The nose and initial taste are pleasant, and show some malolactic fermentation. But the aftertaste is a touch too acidic and bitter for my taste.

Since last drinking this a month or two ago, the nose has become more expressive and characterful with some nice vanilla, hay in a warm barn and oak coming out against a background of warm English summer evening white flowers. Palate is still acidic in attack but seems to be toning down and has lovely mouthcoating clover and clover honey with some oyster shell minerality and hints of oyster liquor salinity...some lightly baked whole lemon in there too. The classiness of a first-class producer is evident in this wine. The somewhat predominant acidity is actually well-suited to combating our current extremely hot summer in Hong Kong.....the hottest for 30 years.

Another great showing. A touch reductive on the nose at first, but it clears up with half an hour of air. Palate shows subtle changes with air, including lemon, mineral and melon and some good sweet/sour/salinity on the finish. Acidity is still bright. Signs of more yellow or tan fruit than clear, suggesting that the wine is aging, but on day two there is no degradation and it appears clean and clear, with good focus, minerality and bright acidity. Very interesting powdery texture on the second night. An amazingly pleasing wine at its price point, which I keep re-loading as a house white.

Bright, green-gold clour. Nose is very reticent...seashells and not much else (although I do have the remnants of a cold). Palate is very sharp acidic attack then segues into clover honey, clover honey, more clover honey then a nice sharpness of oyster shell minerality before a final clover honey, seashells and growing lemon rind finish. Moderate length. Suggestions of a butter and minerally finale but lacking multi-dimensionality. The issue here is what happens to the over-dominant acidity in the future. Heck, at at US$30 for a Leflaive I'm not exactly complaining. First of a case.....it has the potential to improve in the next couple of years, I think.

Still a good wine, showing lots of acidity and minerality, but the palate seems to have developed further from the clear fruit it once showed towards more tan shades and hints of hay. No degradation over three nights; in fact, the energy and minerality really came alive on the second and third nights, and a clear, rather than tan, palate was more in focus.

Initially a bit light with some minerality. It becomes better with air and developes a nice citrus-complexity. Quite simple compared to other Leflaive wines. Good with salmon.

Both professionals and amateurs seem to be enthousiastic about this wine but I don't get it. To me it's hollow: no flowers, no fruit, no weight, no tension and no real length. On the second day a bit better, opener, but still okay at best. Try again in 2012?

citrus, stone, chalk, some slight bitterness on the finish. a bit simple but still good, just don't expect a Ramonet 1er cru wine (which it isn't). medium bodied, some slight sweetness although it is bone dry, good entry and mid-palate, slightly clipped finish. good minerality and balance.

Fantastic, as usual, although two differences since the last time: first, somewhat more along its evolutionary path, which is to say, less of a clear palate and more golden and sun-baked; second, a touch reductive this time. Still, terrific acidity, minerality and salinity, this time with a suble layer of cream at the bottom. Lots of nuance to the palate, and tremendous verve.

Min første Leflaive kjøpt "på egen bok". 240 kroner på Valken. Førsteinntrykk i glasset: Ingenting. Ingen duft, mest syre i munnen.

Tasted on day 2 - Nose has dense pineapple and mango juice with wet straw and vanilla bean. Good amount of citrus within the wine with meyer lemons leading the way. Relatively one-dimensional on the palate, it does have nice acidity on the finish. All-in-all, it's a solid chardonnay that is best paired with light meats, fish, and pasta.

Excellent as an apertif, and also surprisingly good with beef stroganoff. Meyer lemon and green apple, mostly, with excellent supporting acidity, and decent finish. Still quite young, this may develop some complexity with another year or two. Should age very well.

Opened and poured, this wine showed a wonderful combination of straightforward crispness and richness. The aromatics show chalk, mineral, green apple and floral notes. The color is a light yellow that is youthful and vibrant. The light to medium palate shows a straightforward but balanced combination of fruit and acidity. This is never likely to develop a lot of complexity but this is a pleasure to drink now and may benefit from a year or two of bottle age.

Vivid and acidic to start, this wine currently benefits from 45 mins in the glass, wherein it becomes a completely different beast. Apple, saline, chalk/talc, soap, floral notes...beginning to shut down a bit but similar, and as enjoyable, as listed in previous tasting notes.

Drank this along with the '07 Roulot Bourgogne Blanc, and this '07 Leflaive Macon is the better wine. It shows better clarity, and definitely more tension on the palate. Good sweet-sour duality, like last time. With Liz and Marc.

Opened an hour before tasting. Very light yellow color. Somewhat muted, although, pretty, nose with a little chalk, some nuttiness and some tropical fruit. Good mouthfeel and on the palate this showed apple and citrus with decent acidity. Tasty, and at $32 it may not be a screaming QPR, but I would definitely buy again.

The Wines Of Domaine Leflaive (Wally's Wine & Spirits - Los Angeles, CA): Very pure with citrus, stones, melon, and honey on the nose. Really great in aromatic character with a nervy lively style. This is not especially concentrated on the palate showing high acidity, yellow fruits, and hints of minerality. The palate should fill out with time making this a more complete wine and a great value.

Very nice. Pale yellow color. Bright puckering apple, lemon, lemon zest and a touch of tropical fruit on the nose. Grapefuit, lemon pie and more tropical fruit on the palate. Crisp and lip smacking. Opens to golden fruit and just a touch of nuttiness; not sure whether this is from oak, but if so, it's deft and welcome. Salinity emerges with air, and then a really intriguing sweet-sour duality comes to the fore, lively in the mouth, what a wine writer might call "urgent". Full in the mouth, good weight, but well proportioned. Very nicely balanced, not too tart, shows some minerality alongside golden fruit, no element coming on too strong. Nice acidity that carries through to the finish. Loved it.

Very pleasing, well integrated and fresh. Apple, peach, and citrus are woven together in a medium bodied package with minerals and appropriate amounts of acid. This was my first time trying the Macon from Leflaive.......since it was a Leflaive, I wasn't surprised it was good.

This has been a great value option from Domaine Leflaive since their inaugural 2004 release, but the 07 just may well be the best yet. It’s a little shy at first, barely emitting whiffs of lemon and mineral. As it breathes up there’s a little honeysuckle and pure white peach. In the mouth it has great clarity and flavours that are crystalline with a saline, limestone feel that one associates with Chablis. Time in the glass reveals a wine of good density and richness and whilst the previous vintages of this loosen relatively quickly (1-2 years after bottling) this is ratcheted up real tight and may need a few extra years to unfurl.

Light yellow. Delicious nose wth pure healthy fat Chardonnay fruit with shy lemon, nuts, butter and gunpowder. In the mouth nice fatness and good acidity. Probably loads of wood, but no caramel notes. Great QPR, proof that leflaive is a top domain and very promising for 2007.

Lemony nose and flavors, a very light footed chardonnay without the usual Leflaive new oak, with decent wet stone finish, ok but nothing outstanding.

Could use a little more acidity, but this is a very solid wine. Maybe not a great value, but it is enjoyable.

Loved it.
