Good value and quality Rioja. Fruit forward when I first bought it. It is gradually becoming more classically Rioja in style. However it is losing a little of its appeal and freshness in the process. Drink up.

Hard to recall, but one of my favourite tempranillos. Very traditional in style, and hard to beat in its price range. Smooth, oaky, more-ish. But then, I'm a Rioja Alta fan. Have to say, it tasted nowhere near as good the next evening, so perhaps it's time to start drinking up.

2nd bottle of the note so memory is a bit fuzzy. Nice oak...fruit becomes a bit more rounded after 30 minutes in the giass. Oak is not delicate but is well used. If you can find em, get em...solid drink.

Fairly deep color, transparent with fading at the rim. The nose has deep cherry, oak, leather, and a touch of spice. On the palate, the wine is medium bodied with a fairly weak concentration of flavor, but displaying good elegance and a freshening acidity. The finish is fairly short, and a bit thin.

What a surprise - 2001 followed by 2005 are meant to be the best of the decade in Rioja so I had no great expectations for this Alberdi 2002. A well developed rim, good vegetable and flannel on the nose. A soft and delicate approach, nicely fruity with well developed breadth on the mid palate. No great length but a pleasant fade. Gentle acidity in place with perhaps a trace of sourness but not unpleasant. Not overly complex but a wonderful example of a wine that is ready now. Gentle tannins balanced against the fruit with the acidity combine perfectly for maximum pleasure for drinking on its own or with food - a rare combination. I have another 7 left I think so no more than 6 months left to go.

color of medium red with a hint of rust-like color. Taste is nice, a bit dusty, and agree with the comments about a hint of sour cherries. Nothing wrong with it, but not my favorite wine.

Slight rim developing with a mid red opacity - sweet raisin on the nose with a little demerara - lovely acidity, gentle fruit, no tannins left but residue of apples! Length long and delicate

Sour cherry, slight oak, vanilla - the sour cherry is almost reminiscent to gamay. Enjoyable, good qpr - but perhaps because of vintage would not immediately identify as rioja.

Very pleased with this wine, recently bought at the annual holiday wine sale at Lake Hickory CC to augment our daily drinker rotation and the first bottle enjoyed last night with Kim with a dinner of grilled beef tenderloin. Definitely recommend this wine, especially at this price point and this is a very good QPR wine. Dark ruby, well balanced, medium bodied, still plenty or tannins and structure left. Nose surprisingly bright with cherry and plum, primary flavors darker with some earth, dark cherry, stone fruit and tar. Looking forward to enjoying the remaining 3-4 bottles.

Translucent color toward the orange edge of the red spectrum. Nose of earth and oak. Not particularly tannic. Tart red fruit flavor that is a bit thin. The relatively modest alcohol content helped at the table with our lasagna. Pleasant enough wine but probably does not warrant a repeat purchase.

Wine Advocate # 175 - Feb 2008 - Viña Alberdi Reserva 2001 - Jay Miller - 90 - Drink 2010 - 2015 The portfolio begins with the 2001 Reserva Vina Alberdi. Medium crimson-colored, it has a fragrant perfume of cedar, tobacco, spice box, and red fruits. This is followed by an elegant wine with ample sweet fruit, excellent balance, and a pure finish. It will evolve for another 2-3 years and drink well through 2015. La Rioja Alta continues to be one of the benchmarks for traditionally produced Rioja. What the wines may lack in power, they make up for in finesse and complexity. The winery has just released its first “modern-styled” Rioja, called Marques de Haro, and it is a success.
This is a fantastic wine! Brick brown color. Strawberry, oak, blackberry on the nose. Dry and medium bodied, this wine delivers crisp acidity, medium tannins, oak, aged, bitter fruit, great wood. Almost Burgundian in flavor profile. Nicely aged but not going anywhere. 2009-2012. Def decant at least 45 min. Decanting this pays off.
