As others have mentioned, cork was in absolutely terrible condition even with a perfect storage history. After some cleaning and careful uncorking, pours out of the bottle a rich golden color. Not as dark as a I'd expect from a 32 year old white.
On the nose, rich butter with a hint of mushroom. Palate is similar. Not super sweet, but with any less sweetness the minerality and age would be a lot more noticeable. Shockingly, although the acidity is nearly gone, there is a ghostly presence of apple for the first hour of opening.
Nearly dead after 2 hours of opening. Oxidizes quickly. Drink now, this ain't getting any better.

Cork hideous and definitely showing it’s age but still pleasant to drink and paired well with Chinese takeout, much of it spicy. Not at all cloying and only moderately sweet. Still very good

This wine just keeps improving with age, and our most recent bottle was better after it had been opened for a couple of days. This suggests to me that there's lots more life in these, and I intend to hold my last bottle for at least another couple of years. As others have noted, lots of waxy lanolin mouthfeel, coupled with ripe apple and floral notes. Complex and satisfying, but lacking a certain linearity or definition to make it truly great.

Under the capsule, a typically nasty, totally-soaked cork... but the wine is delightful: medium burnished gold in color, with long, slow legs in the glass. Pungent petrol and musky tropical flowers on the nose. Slightly oily and viscous on the tongue, with honey, waxy apple, some citrus and pineapple. Slightly muddled flavors, but with a long, lingering finish. Picked this up a few years ago for a whopping $12 per bottle - no complaints.

Rich yellow color. Appears young. Nose shows sweet caramel apple amidst some nice hints of funk. Hazelnuts and sweet fruit on the palate with a wee touch of acid. Not nearly the acid spine as the bottle last year, at least I'm not perceiving the acid this time. Maybe reached the point of going nowhere good from here on out. Enjoyable, from a novelty standpoint now. Good, but that's it, really. Drink 'em now.

Yellow gold. The nose shows honeysuckle, pineapple and some petrol. Beautiful and complex. Off- dry on the palate with a mix of honeyed lemon and green apple notes. Medium bodied with high acidity. Very refreshing mouthfeel here. Good length with some pineapple and tart white fruit lingering about.

The wine has a lush and ripe mouthfeel with great poise and notes of pear, honey and some stemminess. With more time, the acidity integrates more properly and some of that Vouvray funk/astringency settles. More botrytized notes emerged later on the night. A very nice wine to start things off.

Really nice wine, I would have pegged it for a good spatlese/auslese with some age on it. Nice deep honey gold color. Ripe pineapple and a touch of petrol in the nose, fruity and steely at once, with a backbone of "funk." Lush mouthfeel, rich citrus, great depth and balance of sweet to acidity, bright lasting flavors of pineapple and lemon.

Still a rather vibrant yellow color. Fleshy and soft palate with sweet fruit and cool minerality. Apricot and hazelnut flavor, but a spine here, too, that keeps the botrytis in line. Very nice indeed.

We've had several bottles of this wine in the last year and a half, and this was the first without a gross and filthy cork. It was also the first that let us down. This particular bottle had no character -- no petrol, no tea, no grass, no lemon peel. It was rather sweet and very one-dimensional. After something like 10 bottles of this wine, we finally found one that just didn't age nicely. Ah well. For this price, we're willing to take one on the chin. Hopefully, the next bottle (we've still got a few in the cellar) will have the icky cork and the wonderful flavor. :)

Paid 10 GBP for this and was a bit sceptical about an 18 year old Vouvray but this really is outstanding. Golden straw colour, almost like a Sauternes. Nose is buttery, smoke, melon and burnt sugar and also with slight odours of spices. Taste is well balanced - a nice little bit of acidity that just balances off well against the sweetness. I doubt if this wine has much more to give in terms of its development - the sweetness/acidity is just right about now. This wine gets ticks in all the right boxes - well balanced, not overpowering, aging well and still with a wonderfully complex taste. If you were tasting this blind you could easily mistake it for a sauternes, and a good one at that. For 10 pounds I dont think I have had a better bottle of wine.

Greenblanket is somewhat conflicted about this wine. The bottle I opened seemed as fresh as a daisy with lots of nice Vouvray characteristics - honey, a bit of lanolin, minerals, flowers, citrus acidity, fall fruits - the whole deal. But somehow it leaves me just a bit flat even though the price is right and it's pretty cool to find Vouvray with this much age at a price that's attainable by an average guy like me. For this Teletubby it just doesn't achieve the harmonious balance that I seek in these wines. No more for me and I really don't know if I am passing on a Garagiste type fire sale or a great opportunity.

Color: the yellow-gold-green of an excellent oolong tea Nose: a hint of beeswax, flowers, honey, and just a bit of an odd mildewy note (like a stack of old grass pilings in the back yard) that seems to go away after the wine opens up. Taste: sweet on the front of the tongue, moving on to wildflower honey, ripe apricots, some lemon peel, just a slight hint of pineapple. Finish is smooth and medium-dry. It’s not tart at all, but there is enough crispness to keep it from being a sweet wine. Very fresh in taste, even though the nose gives away the age. Jeff says this is all about summer fruit.

Cork was soaked all the way through. Lots of bottle stink upon opening plus what appeared to be a little spritz, which had me fearing refermentation. Initial tastes were quite off and suggested oxidation, but color was light and fresh so i double-decanted and let it sit for an hour. The wine freshened up nicely, showing a relatively muted nose and nice if unfocused demi-sec sweetness on the palate with savory bits and light honey. Now going on the 3rd hour and the wine is still improving by leaps and bounds, finally showing a classic chenin nose of wet wool, lemon-lime, sweat, wonderful riesling-like diesel, beeswax. More focused and structured on the palate now, and quite delicious. Good balance, although more acid would take this to the next level. If it seems off, give it some air!

Good aperitif. First whiff is bad, to me like wet hay, "funk" someone says, but this wasn't corked. A little petrol, "sweet, almost saccarine", unctuous, hints of honey a little almond or stone fruit, quince and pear.

The theme was Chenin Blanc and Northern Rhone. (Applewood): Shows some minerality and quince flavors and aromas, but unfortunately the wine is marred by an all too noticeable dirty barrel/funky note. There was much talk at the table about the quality of the site, but that it was being wasted by sloppy winemaking at that time, a fact that has kept the price of these old wines low at this time. Tasting the wine, one really gets a sense of that. Medium sweet with the plump mouthfeel of the vintage. B-.

Poured blind at a tasting with friends. Nobody guessed anywhere close to the age. Full, round and sweet, just very tasty.

Tasty, but corks are old and do not travel well.

Tight, waxy, medium-dry, bitters, needs time.

Cork was almost saturated. Beautiful hint of sweetness followed by a long finish. Lychee and honey on the palate. Great with spicy Asian food.
