The wine is not gone but just an example of a hard year. Not very good. Unripe tones on the nose, chemicals and fish (!?) Not very good palate too, not pleasant bitterness and acidity. Just a poor effort from a great Château.

Muted red fruit and super smooth mellow tannin. This wasn't a brilliant year, but demonstrates what is achievable by a decent winemaker. This won't improve but is delicious now, if slightly lacking complexity.

Decent enough mature claret, some cedar on the nose, fading fruit, won't improve from here. Reasonable effort from a difficult year, but doesn't shoot the lights out.

A deep but vibrant burgundy colour lightening at the rim. Some leathery notes intertwined with blackcurrant, roasted plum, a little graphite and a hint of menthol wafts out of the glass in quite a lovely way. Clear blackcurrant fruit in the mouth, little tannin left, and that's a little dry, but there's some acidity keeping it fresh and a medium long finish. Brought this for a good price and is a good mature classed growth which is drinking very well now, and maybe for another few years.

The deep red / burgundy color was announcing a rich and fruity wine still very powerful. No acidity though, and having decanted it a couple of hours, it was starting to really open on the nose. Open a second btl later on, and clearly it would have been better it we had decanted this one too but with time it quickly improved rapidly in the glass and open nicely. Surely will continue to age very well and improve for some years, unfortunately I have drank all I had, maybe time to look for some more :-)

Drank at Crown wine cellar to enjoy with a cuban cigar. It would have really benefited from being decanted earlier, but 90 minutes later, for the last glass, it had become very smooth, the acidity had gone and nice aromas of cherry and cedar wood were revealed. It is really good value and drinks very well now.

This bottle was considerably worse than the previous one. The fruit has definitely faded somewhat leaving behind a hot finish. I would really recommend drinking up if you still have some

Suprisingly good for an "off" vintage. Smooth, well integrated tannins, not much on the nose but overall a very acceptable bottle. Noticeably better than a 2001 Reserve de Leoville Barton but cost the same. It's as good as it's ever going to be.

Wine Education Service - Château Langoa Barton (LSE): Just opaque, not much age.
Still fruity on the nose, with animal notes, pleasant and inviting.
Delicious, soft tannins, cooked fruit, on the cusp.

Wine Education Service - Château Langoa Barton Troisième Cru Classé: Ripe baked fruit, youthful for an eighteen year old wine, a quite lovely fragrance.
Tannin dominated fruit, but balanced, smooth drinking well.

Wine Education Service Chateau Langoa Barton Vertical (Imperial College, London): Tawny rim. Looking old. Baked plum fruit aromas. Some pencil shavings. Savoury. Smooth palate, still possesses sufficient depth of fruit and a reasonable length to make this rather enjoyable. Could quite happily drink this on its own.
