Some spice and kirsch notes on bouquet. More of the same on the palate, with well integrated and fine tannins. Acidity a bit high and a touch of alcohol mars the balance slightly. Last of these and I have enjoyed all of them. Great value.
This is not a blockbuster CdP but a rather Burgundian in style wine. Color is medium garnet, quite transparent, nose is very fresh, expressive and complex. Initially it offers plummy fruit together with aromas of violets, fresh figs and garrigue. As it spents time in the glass it becomes more leathery. Palate is medium bodied, with firm tannins, medium acidity and slightly noticeable alcohol. Fruit is darker here but abundant and fresh. Nice finish. Could keep but this one is for the medium term, not long aging. Fairly priced at 19euros.
Popped and poured. Expansive bouquet of dark compote and a tinge of alcohol. Sweet, round entry. Enveloping warmth on the midpalate with cherries and sous bois to the fore and a medium length final. This is very enjoyable stuff - accessible, moderately complex and quite well balanced. Alcohol is perceptible and throws out the balance a little but this is great value.
I think this has at least another 5 years ahead of it.
Decanted 2 hours. Consistent with previous note. This is a generous, balanced CdP. Lashes of dark fruit on the nose and palate, touch of heat on the long final that does mar the balance somewhat, but this is intense and brooding while being light on its feet. Refreshing and great QpR.
Decanted 1 hr, served at 17C. Deep crimson. Rich bouquet of dark fruit, faint whiff of game. Brisk attack with a round, inviting slightly sweet profile and supple tannins holding a deep mid-palate together. Lots of fruit on show here - acidic tinged final with just a bit of heat. Very nice balance.
Garrigue, blood, iron, Grenache red fruit profile. Somewhat thin on the mid-palate with average acidity, medium-short finish that approached medium with air. Relatively good value for the region and vintage, but will not buy again.
Great nose if red licorice, raspberry, sour cherry, plum and little bacon. Beautiful wine. Great fruit, ironically black licorice on tongue with spices. A little hot but long finish. Probably should have waited couple years.
a bit modern IMO, i mean, sweet fruit, seems a bit heavy, but delicious nonetheless with briary peppery red fruits on nose with deep, sweet broad red fruit in the mouth. perhaps a bit generic in some regards but tasty and fresh.
maybe my bottle was defective.. Ruby red, with violet rim; crystalline and consistent. Intense nose, complex, but low quality: earthy, humus and... dung..at the beginning, then some fruit coming out, but very faible. Dry, alcoholic (14,5%) and medium rounded; Good acidity and tannins, medium minerals. Good balance and body : 7; Intense, persistent and fine. Good entry, powerfull and alcoholic, then fruity, spicy (black pepper). Good taste, but nose from disturbing to ordinary
I finally couldn't resist opening a bottle, knowing 2007 is a generous year that is already inviting. I popped and poured and the wine started at about 89 pts. Good Rhone, rather accesible but not the wine that swept me away when I first tasted it. And then, after 3 hours it happened. It started to explode in the glass, it gained depth and weight and was as inviting as a young CdP can be. Excellent!
More 2007 Southern Rhones (Various Locations, SF Bay Area): Least saturated wine of the day. Some light brett and lavender on the nose. Lighter weight with late sappy anise appearing. Savory black cherry fruit without any undue sweetness or heat. Fades quickly on the finish. Overall, quite enjoyable.
Fascinating aromas of raspberry, black cherry, leather, sage, barnyard, burnt firewood. A floral note that develops on the nose after decanting takes the aromas into what can only be described as hauntingly elusive. The palate is much more rustic with more earth, tea leaf, and tar with a bitter raspberry finish. medium-light bodied but plenty of tannin and acidity that will round out over time. I have one more that should be ready in a couple of years. Can't wait.
On the nose flowers and red berries. On the palate this wine was singing after an 8 hour "Audoze" red berries with some earth elements and more flowers. Balanced acidity, round tannin, and a nice 20 second finish. Simply delicious and excellent QPR, living up to the hype of the 2007 vintage - I will buy many more. 91+ pts.
