Refined, elegant, classy, with rose hip syrup flavours (although not syrupy) and garrigue strawberries, together with herbs and spices. Very good indeed.

A big wine – certainly not as finessed as higher end offerings but suitably complex and tasty nonetheless! This bottle is in a great drinking window at the moment, showcasing both full fruit and ample tertiary characteristics. Immediately bold on the nose with ripe raspberry/strawberry, stewed fruit, and vanilla, the wine quickly settled down into a better balance that included forest, iron, and barnyard/mushroom notes. Integration of palate and structure continued through the evening, with further development of red/black cherry, plum, slate/graphite, and leather; tannins and acidity were in excellent harmony with the rest of the wine. Oak (vanilla, cedar, charred wood) did appear throughout, but in a much subtler and unified fashion than the first few sips would have implied – sweet and savoury sundried tomatoes lingered on the finish. The bottle was a treat to drink from start to finish, and though not as deep and beguiling as some, still lived up to expectations and offered no shortage of intrigue/enjoyment. At $76, you’re definitely getting your money’s worth!

Red and black berries, spices, cedar wood, leather and maybe hint of ripe fruits on the nose. Bouquet is quite complex with decent intensity. Palate has lively acidity and tannins are plenty, but already rounded. It took while to wine to open and after that fruit showed up with nice and balanced density. Decent length. Overall was nice wine at the peak.

(Rhône tasting, Genius in Gastronomy) The nose is of mild intensity offering small stone fruits, some oak with a bit of leather too. The palate has more density though, high fruit tones of plum, balancing acidity, a bit animal scents there as well, tannins are there but (a bit) drying and some spicy notes. Overall it is a nice wine but it does appear to be disjoint at certain points.

Guigal Brief Masterclass (Cellier Wine Loft, Athens, Greece.): Garnet. Evolved nose of leather, raw meat, blackberries, cherry jam, olive and sweet spice. Full-bodied with velvety tannins, sweet, ripe fruit and balancing acidity. Med-long aftertaste. At peak.

Garnet with a tawny rim. Evolved meaty nose with cinnamon, black fruit, olives and evident oak. Hints of Brett? Spicy and leathery on palate with slightly astrigent tannins, loosing a bit in persistence of fruit and mid-palate concentration. Delicious at this point.

Nose full of herbs, sweet cherries and blackcurrant, some smoke ham and vanilla. Quite big in the mouth, gentle, well balanced tannins and right acidity. Lovely drinking.

Casual Drink 2 (Maiu Restaurant - Damansara Perdana): Alcohol :: 13% Barnyard, roasted herb, blackcurrant and smoke meat. Very bright profile, good transparency to the sweet dark fruits coated that is rich and quite powerful, medium weight palate with a touch of roasted herb and bitter tannin at the end, powerful finish too, Not bad but perhaps lack a little bit of the mid palate concentration, that's why I guessed this was a 2004. Buy - No.

Still somewhat closed, but starting to show mature aromas. Tannins are soft and smooth. This was surprisingly complex and nicely balanced Syrah. Not very muscular. Quite elegant in fact. A few more years in cellar will make this even better.
