Deep garnet in color with slight bricking edges. Nose of crushed dark berries, leather, and a hint of brett. Tastes of dark cherries, blackberries, tobacco, and hint of earth. Well integrated fruit and acidity. Has a slight sweetness, rich, and resolved tannins. Tasted better in cooler side. Probably just past it best drinking window. Drink now And over next three.

Capable and elegant, if somewhat unremarkable. Is that fair when a wine is really good, just somewhat shy of hitting wow? Hits a whole bunch of strong notes, nice smooth dark fruit, tannins in balance, great weight and silky texture. Liked everything about it ... just not going gaga for it.

Enjoyed it more than the previous bottle drank a couple of years ago. It mellowed out and became more elegant. Served with lamb shanks and the strong flavours in wine went with the food really well.

Very rich and concentrated, and overall in balance. The alcohol content is quite high (15.5% on the bottle) - we served it a bit cooler than we would normally serve reds and didn't decant. The wine has a certain sweetness on the palate, but it's not overdone.

Dark, almost opaque bluish red. Blue fruits, black cherry, chalk. Medium minus tannins and acidity. Not very complex but a nice vine that drinks well now - no rush to drink up though.

Pleasant with abundant terroir and lovely Grenache kirsch. End palate is a bit on thin side, but the overall impression is positive. Compared to previous tastings, the wine is much more open and integrated. There is a perfect balance between oak, acidity, tannins and fruit. This is a beautiful example of a more standard level CndP which continues to deliver after 7-8 years. I cannot say how it will evolve, but why wait and see? The wine is rather spectacular tonight too! (score is 91+)

This was quite good, barnyard nose, very meaty, with blood notes, hints of plums, raspberry, truffles, plenty of life left, in fact based on this bottle at least 5 maybe 10 years of life left easily. I evidently enjoyed this CDP better than most previous tasters.

Bricking garnet red with a nose of cooked red fruit, garrigue, olives, and tertiary licorice and spice. A grower on the palate as air adds character to this hot Rhône red: cherries and raspberry pie, thyme, nutmeg, and heather. I usually hate anything over 14.5% but this is balanced and evolved enough to offset the alcohol. A nice effort!

Was skeptical about this one due to a failed cork that allowed a small amount of wine to pool in the cap. Very pleasantly surprised though: Very complex nose that started with cassis and cherry, and evolved into something with more green and earthy notes as it opened up. Very balanced, medium/long finish, has a strength and complexity that will stand up well with lots of different foods. Drinking very nicely right now and seems like it will hold on for several more years.

decanted for 35 minutes. Young and full of red fruit, spice. In general we drunk it about 3yrs too early and unless u liek ur wine with lots of fruit and spice (see young cote rotie) this will not excite. Shame really. 88 at the moment.

Definitely much better on day 2! Needs time to open up. Full of black currant and cassis. I detected more of the alcohol (15.5%) this time. Tasted and smelled slightly medicinal.

A truly nice food companion with lots of dark fruit, sun dried flowers and the herbal tone so often found in the wines from southern Rhône. Tonight the La Bernardine paired extremely well with food and to be honest showed a more mature and deep palate compared to the other two bottles I have tested.

A nice effort from Chapoutier, drinking perfectly tonight. Not a big powerful Châteauneuf but a lovely experience. Some heat in the end-palate reducing the experience slightly. Recommended.

Medium body; very smooth. A lilttle too light on the nose. Some faint scents of loam and ok but took a while to open up the smell. Got better after a couple hours. Firm tannis; will probably get better in time. Nice balance but not complex. A few reviews have noted a lack of finish which I would agree with.

Pleasant with a load of terrior and Grenache kirsch. Not comparable to the Barbe Rac it is still a lovely effort. End palate is a bit thin, but the overall impression is positive. (Day 2: Now we are talking! The wine is much more outspoken and open. Perfect balance between oak and fruit. Nice acidity. End-palate lasts much longer and actually accentuates the other components of the wine very nicely. A bit heat decreasing the score a bit though.) Highly recommended. (score is 91-93 on day 2; score was 91 on day 1)

2007 Chapoutier Chateauneuf-du-Pape Rouge, Coldwater Café; Tipp City, OH. $65/750 ml. 15.5 pabv. Restaurant has controlled-condition storage for all its wines; fairly unusual in this neck of the Ohio woods. Very sweet. fpcised fruit, underlain by malt, a hinnt of funk, and pecans, and dusted with violet flowers. With air the topnotes flutter between mint and anise, returning to a clear violet impression.

WSET Intermediate L5: WSET 2. Clear medium-deep garnet. Light to medium nose straight from the bottos (needs decanting to open up). Red fruits, jam, and sweet spice. On the palate off-dry with medium acidity, revealing strawberries, red cherries, dried fruit even. Full-bodied, low acidity, and very low tannins with chewy texture. Medium finish. Decant at least 60 min. Value/money = 7.5

Herbs, loam and smoke, very soft, much softer than I expected, with almost no tannic weight showing through. Believe it or not the acidity is a touch higher than the tannin. I guess you should drink this now and right now. And it smells beautiful so why not? Overall it seems a bit market-oriented, maybe even a touch four square, but at $44 or so it works out, although a good Gigondas at this price would intrigue me more.

Decanter Fine Wine Encounter; 11/13/2010-11/14/2010 (Landmark Hotel, London): (Decanter Fine Wine Encounter) I was very troubled about this one, I have a feeling that I rated it a bit low maybe because I had hgh expectations, without any doubt I'll try it again in the future and probably rate it higher. I thought the color would much thicker than the light red I saw in the gass, the nose was a bit closed of course, the palate was really good with roundness, butter, very fruity, sweet spices like nutmeg but a shortish aftertaste.

NOSE: juicy strawberry; some spiciness. TASTE: medium-full bodied; round tannins; 15.5% alc. not noticeable; rich fruits; tannin a touch drying; medium-long finish; a bit fat; nice spice; I could go for some more acid; medium-long finish.

First impression: closed nose, very tight and difficult to get aroma from the wine. Not the best glass for a wine like this (Riedel Overture red wine glass). Later on it reveals sweet red strawberries, sweet bruised red and black fruits. Soft floral notes and sweet tobacco. On the palate: not very expressive today (probably not decated Riedel Overtures are not helping). Warming alcohol, feel a little heat in the chest. This wine is has good structure and is good quality but is too young to drink today. If drinking young I suggest a good decanting and big bowled stemware.
