  • no rating as this was ruined in some way (not corked)...flat and flaccid, tasted a bit sour as well. Both bottles I purchased from this vendor were off.

  • La Ronde's note is spot-on for my btl as well. On the nose: caramel and pear, honey with a touch of toast. On the palate: ok acidity, apricot, marmelade, caramel. Finish is a touch short, but an excellent example from the vintage imo.

  • This was not an academic exercise. Deep gold with almost amber tinge, nose like pear tarts, toasted. Full bodied and feeling like it's higher in alcohol than the label states (13%). The signature waxiness has evolved into a caramel quality, but caramel without sweetness. Dried stone fruits. So good. Drink or hold for maybe another couple, three years.

  • Interesting wine - deep golden. I'm not sure if it's too old or in a weird spot. Not unenjoyable, but more academic than a pleasure. At least to me.

  • Great experience to drink this 2006 version of Ex Voto Blanc versus the 2010 ex voto blanc. The 2010 truly is a legendary wine, while the 2006 is a very good and typical hermitage blanc. Great Ex Voto personality, rich in flavour, with the famous petrol. Better day 2 and even better day 3. fully in the drinking window and a pleasure to have over multiple days.

I would say the Ex Voto Blanc in top vintages is superior to the great wines of J.L. Chave Blanc and Chapoutier

  • Tuesday Night Double Blind $50+ (Bin 75 Alpharetta, GA): More golden color; aged nose, pie crust, premox, sherry, nutty, oak, dense and weighty; '04 Verget Batard?

  • Deep yellow-orange wine with an extreme rich bouquet of ripe pear, peach and nutty impressions, signs of an oxidative influence (?) , long finish.

  • A serie of superb Old World wines (Amsterdam): A deep golden, but lively, colour with also a 'deep' taste, lovely nutty, mokka, cocoa, blossomed with aeration showing bitters and a compensating ripeness/sweetness and a very tasty finish; so powerful that the wine could not be very subtle, but I did not care.

  • Might have been past it’s prime, however this was my first “aged” white wine, so I have no baseline to compare as to what aged whites should taste like. It was bought from the store (SAQ) by me and stored in a cellar so I know it was handled properly.

Nose: lots of honey, and some flower.
Eyes: beautiful gold colour, almost looked like an aged Sauternes.
Palate: fruit seemed completely gone. Notes of honey as the nose suggested was very present. Lots of minerals as secondary. Had a slight wet asphalt taste. The taste would last for a long time in the mouth.

Overall very good. I was expecting more of a wow factor considering the price tag and the reputation. However this might be because of my limited experience in aged whites, or because it was simply on its decline.

  • Very healthy bottle bought at an auction recently. Leather, hazelnut, lemon zest, floral notes. Big, meaty, broad shouldered wine. Long complex and changing finish with lots of flavour and aromas.

  • Dark yellow color. Notes of clove, some saline and a touch of honeysuckle. In the mouth, large-scaled, but good underlying acidity. This wine didn't do it for me. It was pleasant, just not what I was expecting based on the notes and pedigree.

  • Similar to my note on the 05 (although not tried at the same time), SO'd for a few hrs, deep gold, thick, nutty fruit, long finish; delicious, unique, ready to drink

  • Amber color. Rich and profound; not just a wine, an important wine experience. Baked red apple skin, peaches, grilled lemon and toasted hazelnut are backed up by strands of peanut brittle and an herb component in the long finish I couldn't quite put a name to, maybe bay leaf. Wow.

  • Reductive for Rhone white and enjoyable.

  • Consistent notes. Tasted beside the 2007 vintage of the same wine. I found the 2006 to have brighter acidity and better balance. The 2007 was a tad flabby in the mid-palate.

  • This is a white wine that's quite different in style in comparison to other whites. Golden in color, rich and viscous when you swell the glass. The bouquet initially is filled with apricot, green apple and lemon zest, it would make you think that this might be a sweet white instead. But that's the deceiving part, the most interesting aspect of this wine, when the wine enters your palate - bang! rich juice packed with ample amount of refreshing acidiy, absolutely no sweet notes as the nose suggested prior. Wonderful structure and balance, fruity note and wine's characters will keep your imagination on-going for minutes after the finish. More amazingly, the wine sat in the decanter, no chilling, and still going strong hours into the dinner. The nose keeps evolving and added slight savoury note and fresh melon. This white seems to be one of those rare giants that can stand the course of a full dinner and can pair brilliantly with all dishes.

  • What an incredible experience. Beautiful golden colour, with thick viscosity. On the nose, complex aromas of apricots, marzipan, varnish. On the palate, beautiful bitter-sweet bright fruit with layers of complexity, and beautiful balance. Drinking very well, will easily go 10 years.

  • WOW! What a spectacular white wine. Golden color with such richness of fruit with a slightly sweet edge. This is contrasted by acidity and some slightly bitter flavors that give this wine such complexity and depth. It finishes with lovely smooth sweetness and goes on and on.

Utifrån 2010:an blev vinet bara succesivt sämre ju äldre årgång vi provade.

  • Guigal Brief Masterclass (Cellier Wine Loft, Athens, Greece.): Dark gold. Expressive, but continuously evolving nose with candied apricot, marzipan, sweet oak, intense pine trees honey that became dominant after aeration and hints of oxidation. Full-bodied, thick and oily textured with huge extract but nicely balanced by sufficient acidity to avoid being flabby or cloying. Endless aftertaste. A characterful love-it-or-hate-it wine.

  • Lemon-gold with complex nose changing over time revealing honey, quince, marzipan, a lot of oak and some oxidative hints. Massive on palate with soft acidity, low tannins and persistent finish. A wine that makes you think with great ageing potential.

  • White wine Guigal Masterclass (Stockholm): Golden yellow colour. Nose with ripe yellow fruit, orange and orange peel, some damp straw, some mineral, and some oak. The palate is very full bodied, oily, noticeably spicy, medium acidity, baked apples, noticeable minerality with menthol. Young, but somewhat developed. 93(+) p
Could possibly enter "the tunnel", i.e. become closed, in a couple of years time, although I'm far from sure that it will go through such a phase.
