Ripe purple color. The nose exudes roasted figs and plum cake tossed together with violets, coffee, toffee, milk and dark chocolate bars. On the palate, I get a smooth, slightly chewy mouthfeel with moderating acidity. Ripe but nuanced flavors of chocolate-covered raisins, fig paste, sweet plum sauce, even some candied orange peel. Notes of sweet coffee, toffee, and violets add a nice kick, and there’s even some nuanced earth tones. That undeniably fun, juicy, ripe, and pleasant ruby style.

Retail $29. From Graham's website: "made primarily of ... Touriga Franca, ...Touriga Nacional, ... Tinta Roriz and ... Tinta Barroca. [C]omponents of Tinta Amarela, Tinta Cão, Souzão and Tinta Francisca." I tasted this last year and I come away with many of the same impressions: a tasty Ruby that is certainly lighter than many of its brethren. Still, this remains true to its long heritage. Excellent.
Deep purple color. Aromas of rich figs and plum cake, mixed with coffee, toffee, milk chocolate, and dried violets, accented by some pleasant earthy tones. The palate shows suave tannins and a chewy feel, sweet but moderated by the acidity. The flavors of sweet plums, raisin cake, fig paste, even some candied orange peel. Sports a lot of pleasantly sweet coffee and dried flowers, nuanced earth and minerals. Fun and value-driven intro Port, but complex and very well made, per usual from Graham’s.

I'm fairly new in partaking of ports so my 90 points is a bit subjective. I felt the sweetness and the qualities of the grapes that were imparted to the wine were well balanced. It tasted great paired with ginger snaps! :-)

Dinner with Steve & Barbara (Their House): From a bottle opened several months earlier. A dark dense ruby color. Lots of dark red and black fruits on the nose. These follow on to the medium to plus bodied palate along with spice, plum, and a streak of chocolate on the finish. While not having the sophistication or complexity of a Vintage Port, it was quite enjoyable and a near perfect match for the homemade dark chocolate cake that it accompanied.

The Grande Finale of the Port Advent Calendar was the Six Grapes Reserve from Graham’s, to me the least enticing of the Graham’s Quartet. Pitch dark red, almost oily & fully concentrated in appearance. Nose is packed with ripe, sweet-touched blue & black fruit - jammy plums, blueberries, dark cherries, hints of cassis, figs & raisins, and a tad coffee. Palate is incredibly rich in a jammy-style, flavours as per nose with added dark chocolate, too opulent / less fresh for my style, finishing on a warm & spicy note!

Portuguese fortified wine from Douro Valley: Touriga Franca, Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz Tinta Barroca, Tinta Amarela, Tinta Cão, Souzão and Tinta Francisca. 20 % alcohol. Aged for 1 - 2 years in wood barrels or vats.
Black/ ruby red color.
Warm and round aromas of nutmeg, blackberries, blueberries, licorice, tobacco and vanilla. Powerful and intense flavors of blackberries, blueberries, vanilla, nutmeg and licorice.
Sweet. Light body. Medium acidity. Chewy tannins. Good balance. Okay structure. Good complexity.
Medium finish with blackberries and nutmeg.
A delicious but rather simple Port. 86/100

Retail $27. 33.3% Tinta Roriz, 33.3% Touriga Nacional, 33.3% Touriga Franca. This is Graham's flagship reserve porto and while the "best" casks every year go into the vintage port, the second best barrels go into the Six Grapes. As far as I can recall, this is my first time around the block with this Ruby Port, which is not meant to be aged but rather consumed right away. A lovely reddish brown with a purple hue, the nose is characterized by ripe cherry, plum, and mocha. The palate is, surprisingly, rather light on its feet--not a heavy brooding port by any means. Plenty of fruit, sweet (but not cloying), a tad hot initially (but eventually mellows), this is quite a tasty port, particularly for the price.
Deep ruby color, notes of vanilla, toasted oak, stewed plums, dark fruits, sweet but not overly so, full bodied, light acidity, medium tannins, very well balanced, long finish

By the glass at the BA Lounge, Glasgow. No clue when this was opened but frankly makes little difference as this wine is indestructible. Rich , juicy, ripe, nutty and punchy. Touch sharp and aggressive at times but this has enough sugar to make one forget all its flaws. Not a quality port but still won’t fail you.

Light purple color. A warm nose of sweet blueberries and blackberry jam, with some vanilla and coffee grounds, warm earth. Full and ripe with chewy tannins and medium-low acidity. Plummy and sweet with boysenberry and coffee grounds. A fun, entry-level ruby Port.

I opened this wine yesterday to use a few dollops in my Short Rib sauce. I ended the evening sipping this nectar and making very basic notes. For $24, this is a delicious Port that I will be buying again.
Opaque- period. Off-dry with cooked blackberry, sweet prunes, stewed blueberry, rich tannins, high alcohol that is well hidden, medium acidity, long finish, full bodied, very dry finish. Delicious. 92 points and 5 stars.

Port Primer: Opaque dark ruby color with ripe black cherry cobbler, plum sauce, cedar, vanilla and dark chocolate aromas. On the palate, it's between medium and full-bodied and moderately fresh with velvety, sweet tannins. It shows luscious black fruit cobbler (black cherry, blackberry), ripe plum, vanilla and dark chocolate flavors with a hint of baking spice with a warm very satisfying finish. 19.5% abvSRP - $27
It's blend of equal amounts of Tinta Roriz, Touriga Nacional, and Touriga Franca from two or three years vintages, with an an average of five to six years old when it is lightly filtered and bottled.

From a 50mL bottle purchased at Graham’s lodge in Villa Nova de Gaia. Very dark crimson-ruby-black red. Almost the colour of a young vintage port. On the nose, aromas of dark berries, spices and pepper. Good length and intensity. So far, my best ruby or reserve port, though still not quite a vintage. Head and shoulders above Graham’s Fine Ruby. Has fresh crunchy dark fruit, which I really like. 89

Rich and sweet, but not cloying. The alcohol makes itself known. Vanilla and fig newtons, mint and tobacco, spice cake. I'm not usually a fan of ruby port, but this was pretty good. Gimme a cigar and some dark chocolate.

A sweet wine potpourri of flavors. Not well produced but difficult to dislike sweet wine. I read 19.5% alchohol. Heat right from the start with my first whif I get alchohol and sweet methane like gas. In mouth the wine delights to start with sweet prunes, plum, and mulberry. The mid palette has drying notes and an unbalanced reaction both tannicly and acidicly.

Deep ruby red colour. Pronounced nose with dark plums, blackberry, dark cherry, dark chocolate, raisins, prune, licorice and cedar. Pronounced taste of raisins, prune, fig, dark plums, dark cherry, red cherry, blackcurrant, licorice, minerals and cedar. Long and sweet finish. High acidity. Medium tannins. Full body. A very good ruby port that feels a bit different from Graham’s other wines. Goes well with dark chocolate or chocolate based desserts.

13th Cellier Wine Fair (Hilton Athenaum Hotel): Beautiful rich perfume showing ripe red fruit, the alcohol stands a bit taller with some herbal notes. There is an alcohol heat in the palate too, the red fruit is clean and fresh, the herbal notes again, the oak presence is minimum, pure, well balanced sweetness, med body and finish.

The standard bearer for the brand. The second best wine goes into this this, supposedly making it the best reserve there is. Earthy and bunch of funkiness. Six grapes is apparently a brand in and of itself. 10% goes into the vintage, 40% goes into LBV (for everyone else), and here 40% goes into this. The six grapes is a barrel stamp meaning it can go into only two things - vintage or this. It's not an entry level, in other words.

Nothing has changed since my note from five years ago when I wrote: "It's just fun. It's sweet and full of fruit. Smooth and easy to drink. It's not complicated or sophisticated so it's not going to score 90+ but it won't disappoint either." A solid QPR. Feel a bit better this time around we're raising the score to a solid 89.

Deep purple colour, and amazingly complex aroma. Full of blackberries, bramble, cherry, liquorice, cinnamon, cloves, five spice and mostly just black aromas. Medium-dry on the sweetness and medium acidity. Medium tannins, but medium + body and intensity. As well as medium + finish. Very good and drink now, because it is delicious!

Just kind of exactly what I want from a ruby Port. Fresh, forward fruit. Sweet but not sugary or syrupy. There is some nice notes in the background that might be barrel or might be from having six different varieties in here. Dunno. It's just good. Great value.

MNB: Fortified Wines: (blind) Opaque ruby-purple, staining the glass. Medium aromatics of ripe black cherry, more black fruited than the first, slight coffee (oak), and some ethyl acetate (VA). Sweet - 10-15g/L RS. 20% alcohol (actually 19%), medium plus tannins and medium plus acid. More structured than the first wine. Some signs of oak - coffee and caramel - on the finish.
Laterals: - Ruby Port - could be - LBV - would show more signs of age and oxidation - Vintage port - could be, but I'd expect more grip.
Final: Ruby port, higher quality.

Note: I use a scale on which 85 represents a very good wine.
Decent NV port. Drank it over a few days. Held up well. I see that some CTers complained of the wine being disjointed. My bottle was not. Not particularly rich or deep, but not at all disjointed.

Very dark crimson-ruby-black red. Almost the colour of a young vintage port. On the nose, aromas of dark berries, spices and pepper. Good length and intensity. So far, my best ruby or reserve port, though still not quite a vintage. Has a certain bite and ruggedness which makes me prefer it to the smoother 2011 Graham's LBV, though it isn't remotely the vintage port. Good port, perhaps containing some of the great 2011 grapes... 89

Compared with a 5ml bottle of Fine Ruby, this is much deeper in color and intensity of aroma.... The difference is really dramatic for just a few $ more. Deep ruby with visibly more body/viscosity than the fine ruby. Nose of stewed raspberries and blackberries, with a real pronounced barnyard quality (wet hay, earth) that I wasn't expecting and could be a fault. Nice weight and length on the palate which confirmed the nose. Medium sweet. Definitely more complexity and value for the money than the Fine Ruby, but still nothing to write home about.

Bright plum colored. Nose shows elements of roasted fig, plum cake, raisins and smoke with some anise cookies, coconut, vanilla and loamy and rocky elements thrown in. Full with dusty tannins but seems approachable. Plum cake, sweet cocoa and red licorice, creamy vanilla and mocha notes. Not as dark or dense as a vintage Port but still some nice rocky and mineral elements. Finishes with underlying notes of anise, pepper and spice. Seems ready to drink now and very approachable but still well-structured.

Muted nose and telltale signs of TCA on the palate. But it is port after all, so I did the Saran Wrap trick and it was drinkable but mediocre at best. First time I've come across a corked fortified wine. The irony is this has a standard stopper like a liquor bottle so I doubt that was the source.

From Graham's five principal vineyards: Malvedos, Tua, Gales, Vila Velha and Quinta dos Malhadas. Saturated purple ruby red; rich but lifted nose, sweet fruit (plums, sticky black cherries) and warm spices (cinnamon, clove), good depth; attractive juicy palate, typical Graham sweetness balanced by ripe acidity and ripe tannins; complete finish, good length, no alcoholic heat. An immediately approachable port, very good QPR.

This is a tawny port. Not dark but see-through. It has the typical aroma and flavour of a tawny port. The flavour is rich and full. But this is an inferior product to vintage port. Not my style. $8 for a split. I would not buy this again. Did not pair well with a superb Pierre Robert soft, ripened french appellation cheese warmed to room temperature.

An old standby. Best when it's been open a few hours, or a day. Smells like fresh and dried berries, carob/chocolate, and touches of minty herbs and hay. Fresh and lively on the palate, with good acidity and freshness, as well as a bit of savory depth. Tasty and well balanced. Given the price and availability, I'm very glad this stuff exists.

It can't be argued that, for the price, this is a decent port - but I found it somewhat monotone - a safe port - a bit gooey and sweet - a slightly high, hot edge at the finish, which is quite short. For a few euros more better LBVs can be found.

I have become a big port fan, not as much the tawny port which are more like a brandy and lighter in color. This port is dark red, great dark fruit, meant to drank at the end of the night and a small glass is plenty, a true sipping desert wine. A bottle once opened is good for a month in the frig.

Very pretty garnet red. Nice aromas of predominantly black cherry with a little plum. The little bit of alcohol with the cherry flavors made me think of cherry cough syrup but in a good way. Very pleasant aroma of tobacco, and I know this may sound crazy but, fermenting apples (like in a farmer's market during the Fall). Also a little bit of alcohol, but not enough to be offensive. Priced at or above several LBVs, this port is completely competitive with them. Quite simply the best NV ruby port I have tasted, this wine has a tremendous nose of rich plum reduction and black raspberries, and it delivers those on the palate, as well, along with some blueberry concentrate and a hints of black cherry. This port is very smooth and easily contains the fortifying alcohol. It has firm structure, and a very long finish. A small glass can last a couple hours, if you want it to. Consistent style from year-to-year, this is a go-to port for me.

This was just sensational for the money. I agree wholeheartedly with the previous taster: A go-to weekday Port that even over-delivers on nuance, fruit weight, structure and harmony. No real alcoholic burn, very velvety tannin, but currently the structure hides behind a veil of rich, plummy fruit. There's definitely more to this wine than just 'plum', but there's really no value added in reducing this wine to its constituent parts; just drink it, enjoy it for what it is, and then head to the store for your next bottle...because you can afford to, and it's just that good. BTW, bottled without fining or filtration. God bless the Symingtons.

Terrific value here. Combination of vintage and Tawny Port characteristics. Showed complex nose initially with a very Tawny like palate. A few days later in the fridge showed some caramel notes. Grapey characters, on the primary side with a bit of heat. Seems more fleshy and back to the vintage Port qualities after nearly couple weeks in the fridge. A good partner for some Stilton. A great bargain at $14 for Port fans.

I love this port! It has great character and it's affordable at just over $20/bottle! At 19.5% alcohol ... its full and tannic structure emulates that of a more pricey, age-worthy vintage wine. Dark purple in color, its aroma is mostly sweet black fruit, plums and prunes. It has a tart acidity, alcoholic warmth and smooth feel, yet substantial tannins come together on the palate in a dessert wine style. There's not a lot of complexity, but good balance. Made from six Port-grape varieties, hence the name: Touriga Nacional, Touriga Francesa, Tinta Roriz, Tinta Barroca, Tinta Amarela and Tintao Cão. Cheers!

Very nice, as always. Deep dark purple color. Plum nose. Smooth sweet palate with fruity blackberry, plum and almond flavors. Medium-length finish. Incredibly drinkable, not too hot. The consistency and availability of this label are just as good as the contents. Awesome QPR. While not particularly complex, this everyday ruby Port always delivers.

Dark in color, Showing some heat, but once you get past that you cant miss the Raisins, Raspberries, Plums, and slight chocolate. This is dense, sweet, and smooth. Finishes up nice. Good value for under $20. - JD90

Similar initial experience to Dale541, but it hasn't evolved at all. Can almost feel the sugar grit on my teeth, like a sugar spiked grape juice. Thick body, alcohol nose. Alcohol kicks in on the mid palate & goes down that way. Seems more like a brandy than a wine. Wouldn't get again.

I decided to open up a 1/2 bottle of Graham's NV "Six Grapes" porto that I had picked up somewhere. Opened it up on Sunday night and decanted.
Sunday - not very good. very grape juice with alcohol taste and not much body. drank a 1/2 glass and put the rest back into the bottle.
Monday - Better - fleshing out but still a bit harsh
Tuesday - better still. had a glass at the end of the evening and it was really pretty decent. Nothing like the Dow's but 300% better than when opened.
Wednesday - that is tonight, and I have about 1-1/2 glass left and am curious to see if this is still evolving in a positive manner.
Pretty cool to see a $9.00 bottle of wine improve over a 3-4 day period.

I've always enjoyed this Reserve Port, by far one of the best in its class. Yet it had been a while since the last time I have had it. Tonight that changed, and after not much port this month, this 1/2 bottle hit the spot. Very dark purple with dark boysenberry, blueberry, and plums on the nose. The palate is very silky, with a touch of heat that nicely balances out the mocha, blueberries, and a touch of cedar just showing up on the finish. While the tannins are soft they still have some grip to them in the medium length finish. This is such the solid QPR Port for anyone looking for a daily drinker. 87 points 09/17/08

Booze Monstrous 6 O'Clock tasting (Equinox, Singapore): This was a touch better than the Fine Ruby. Very dark, inky purple-red colour. Rather fresh nose, with a stemmy, green tone underlying dried raisin and savoury-sweet umami and hoi-sin notes. Fresh again on the palate, with the same rich dried fruitiness and some dark plummy tones. Shortish finish. Rather yummy in a simple, straightforward way.

Another rich fruity showing with hints of cocoa. A bit more intensity and length would really make this scream, as it is a bit soft... but not a bad little Tuesday night port.

Very impressive for the price. Lucsious cherry/raspberry liquor and chocolate. Rich and palate coating, with hints of almonds. A bit soft on structure, but a pure, clean, full bodied port that's packed with fruit with well integrated alcohol. A bit short on the finish.

Deep, dense flavors. Alcohol heat is present but mostly covered by the sweetness. This will pretty much overwhelm most foods except a dark chocolate dessert.

Nose of coffee and chocolate. Nice dark fruit on the palate. Good value and nice port. Nothing spectacular, but for the price it is very enjoyable. Sweet and relatively simple. Not overly hot, good balance. It lacks the depth and richness of a fine vintage port, but it also costs a fraction of the price. I prefer the more fruit forward style of Graham to the more austere Dow.

With the Graham's Six Grapes, I am back in more familiar territory. It's been a long time since I've had a bottle of this. A very dark red, nearly purple and opaque. The nose is pleasant with soft aromas of cherry, plum, chocolate, and a little alcohol. The palate is sweet with firm tannins and a little acidity. The finish is tannic, fruity, and medium length. Well structured. With all those tannins, this would probably be better in a couple years but why age a basic ruby? In my opinion, a very fine example of a ruby port. I should drink more of this when I need my port fix and don't want to open a Vintage Port. 50 + 5 + 10 + 15 + 7 = 87
Next Day: Inky dark color. Super ripe fruit. Red profile. Lots of fine grained tannin. Low acidity. Some heat on the finish. Thick and sweet. Good stuff. 87

For the value, this is a staple port in these parts. Doesn't give you the exotic aging qualities as in vintage ports, but it has worthy youthful experience to drink now, and needs little decanting.

Six Grapes is my favorite non-vintage port, and has been for many years. Their production quality is very consistent and very high for an NV. It is superior to most California Ports that I have tried, and usually less expensive. If you are looking for a good everyday port, this is it.

Sweet, spicy, "musky," like a typical Port, but with a fresher fruitiness than most; well-balanced and very smooth; not the richest or mellowest of Ports, but a good value for the price.

Almost maroon in color. Nose of plum and dried cherries with hints of liquorice. Also a distinct stewed fruit quality as if it was my mom prepareing Jam! Med weight with a nice richness and no alcohol presence, also the tannins seem soft but noticeable. Big fruit, almost candy like with cherry, strawberry, and a light smokiness. Very nice. Elevenses at Quinta do Bomfin (Douro): This is probably cellarable for a while and, as it is bottled unfiltered, can be expected to throw a crust. Lots of soft brambly fruit. Notably sweeter, less elegant, less austere than the Warrior.

Excellent.

Retail $27. 33.3% Tinta Roriz, 33.3% Touriga Nacional, 33.3% Touriga Franca.

Heat right from the start with my first whif I get alchohol and sweet methane like gas. In mouth the wine delights to start with sweet prunes, plum, and mulberry. The mid palette has drying notes and an unbalanced reaction both tannicly and acidicly.

So far, my best ruby or reserve port, though still not quite a vintage. A Few Ports: Deep purple color. Smells of fig paste, plum cake, molasses, brown sugar and raisins. Full and saucy but accessible tannins. Juicy, dark and rich with plum cake, roasted fig, blueberry jam. I get notes of earth, charcoal, dark chocolate and candied orange peel. Lots of flavor but immediately pleasurable and quite fresh.

First time I've come across a corked fortified wine. The irony is this has a standard stopper like a liquor bottle so I doubt that was the source.

It can't be argued that, for the price, this is a decent port - but I found it somewhat monotone - a safe port - a bit gooey and sweet - a slightly high, hot edge at the finish, which is quite short. For a few euros more better LBVs can be found.

All around nice ruby port and what I would expect. Big, sweet black fruit, plums. A bit too much tannins, but the acidity and alcohol really smooths it out. Overall, a nice value and easy to drink.

Such a consistent "go-to" bottle of port for the money. Deep puple color. Packed with blueberry pie filling, spice and floral notes. A bit soft and round on the palate with above average sweetness; quite approachable. No overt spirit. Medium finish. A bit more "grip" and this would be fantastic.

Mmmm, one of the other reviews commented on using this port as a reduction for lamb … would I ever like to get the recipe. Ok, back to reality. Not that much on the nose, but a fair amount of blueberries, oak, strawberries and tannins on the tongue. I don’t think I have ever had a bad port.

Cheers!

87 points

Next Day:
Inky dark color. Super ripe fruit. Red profile. Lots of fine grained tannin. Low acidity. Some heat on the finish. Thick and sweet. Good stuff. 87
