This was cheap and cheerful, but very good and we have loved this bottle for a few vintages - Dark, full bodied with a nose of blackfruit, plum, spice, cherry, pepper and vanilla, decent structure and balance, sweet on the palate with excellent length, nice! (88 Points).

a great dark inky purple color. on the nose there is lots and lots of dark cherry and blackberry and plum with some tobacco and chocolate and a vanilla oaky pepper spice. on the palate there is lots of dark cherry and blueberry, a noticeable tobacco earthiness and a little vanilla oak on the back end with a little heat. the finish is long and the tannins leave a great dry mouthfeel. this is a good wine especially for the price.

Interesting wine, no doubt about it. I get tar and butterscotch (brown sugar?) on the vibrant nose. On the palate, I get black fruit and some rose petals. There is a decent finish on this - more of a finish than you get on much pricier wines. I get some cranberries on the finish. Good stuff 2 years in a row

This wine is very pleasant and a wonderful surprise. For only $10 one gets a complex wine with lots of character of spice, oak, dark sweet fruit and smooth palate. Serves especially well after 1 year in the cellar. Think it will mature even more over the next 4-5 years. Great QPR.

Kramer recommended Castle Rock Petite Sirah 2007 as they got a great deal on 'secret' top end grapes from the Russian River Valley. I did buy on his recommendation and the Castle Rock was indeed a very good wine and value but I wondered if other wineries were doing the same so I tried the 2007 Bogle Petite Sirah. The Castle Rock, while quite good, was slightly edged out by the Bogle. Confirmed by the Dragon Lady, which, around my house, seals the deal. Buy both if you can still find them.

A simple Petite Sirah that offers notes of leather, a hint of black pepper, and just a touch of vanilla, but lacks much else on the nose. Flavors revolve around a central theme of ripe plum and boysenberry that is followed by a smokey decent finish.
Yet another good buy with a retail price in the $8-$9 range at my local supermarket. Went well with sausages and garlic fries. Should please most.

A really good petit syrah and what a value. Pop the cork and drink. Very nice acidity and dark fruit flavors that meld into a approachable tannins. If you're "every day" wines need to be in the under $10-$15 (or you'll go broke like I), then this is a good every dayer.

TN: 2007 Bogle Vineyards Petite Sirah (USA, California)
Clarksburg and Lodi fruit; appellation: California; harvest date: September 10 through October 24, 2007 Releasd: March 2009. Wine pH: 3.61 acidity: 0.57g/100ml. Alcohol: 13.5%. $12/750 ml at Meyer's in Troy, OH. 150,000 cases made.
This is a cork-finished wine with a heavy bottle that is sort of a Bordeaux-Burgundy hybrid, like that of Chateau Haut- Brion. Could have a greener package, I'd say. Not decanted, which I think is right for this wine.
It’s a very dark purplish brown colored, glass-coating sample, likely unfiltered given the somewhat muddy color.
Typical glossy, tarry nose with overtones of plum and thyme, which show a little vanilla toastiness. I can also detect hints of cocoa and strawberries and tobacco. Grows incomplexity with air, adding cherry and sweet anise hints over leather. Whether the crispness of the acidity is natural or an addition is unknown, but it’s not overdone. The fruit is gently sweet, with a nice touch of energy, and the tannins ripe and caressing; finish medium. A touch metallic, as this variety often is. Not bad at all at the price range, and a very pleasant drink, but lacks the explosiveness of style I’ve seen over the years from this variety; perhaps I expected this to be a little less suave and more rustic. Very ripe and low in acid, but comes together nicely. Still an excellent value.
86/100; now-2017.

PandP. Color medium red with some black hues, medium-full body. Nose is jammy confectionary mash of blackberries and blueberries, vanilla, and white pepper. Aromas transfer to taste in sweet fruit-forward style, with a little welcome earth and pepper in the mid. Low acid, per normal PS high tannins but they are round and soft, adding purposeful friendliness. Tasty fruit, low complexity, some alcohol showing. Performs at its price point of 12.

vanilla and oak hits you on the nose, with a little medicinal component. vanilla carries a little onto the palate, with lots of fruit and a certain meaty undertone. yes, the profile is simple, but it is a very smooth, tasty wine, under $8, and for that it is a great qpr.

Solid daily drinker for $8.99. A bit heavy handed on the oak, which imparts a lot of astringent wood tannin on the pop and pour. Opens up to reveal more fruit and softened tannins with time.

Very decent little every day drinker, a solid value and good QPR at just over $10 / bottle, definitely recommend this but only as a daily drinker not as a real special wine. Enjoyed with Kim over last couple of evenings and definitely better on the 2nd day, makes a case for decanting even very inexpensive reds. Inky purple, big, somewhat monolithic and single dimensional with initially some rough edges which were smoothed out the second evening (tonight). Nose of coca and dark fruit, primary flavors included dark stone fruit and blackberry.

violets, cherries, and fudge on the nose, good restraint on the palate, plum, spice cake, blackberry, chocolate, and dark cherries, very pleasant, doesn't try too hard to reach high complexity or enormous fruit flavors, excellently balanced, somewhat light and easy to drink, great weeknight wine, delicious with BBQ baby back ribs, great value

Deep purple in the glass this wine shows blackberry, spice and liquorice on the nose. The palate shows blueberry and white pepper with chewy tannins on the finish.

Following the jammy, complex '06, this vintage is somewhat of a let-down. A nose of blackberry cobbler sprinkled with toasted coconut is followed by flavors of fruit compote, baking spices and a hint of smoked meat. Medium-bodied and lighter than the '06, but still a solid and easy-drinking wine. I have to give it another try before recommending it (or not).

Color: Deep and dark. Nose: Expressive nose of black fruits and lots of spice. Taste: Big flavors of again black fruits, spice, and oak. Fuller bodied wine. Finish: Fairly long and reasonably complex finish of again fruits, spice and back end tannins. I had it in a glass for 2 hours and it held together nicely. A fantastic deal for the $8.00 I spent and honestly, this may be the best wine value out there. Pair with grilled or more robust foods. A consistently good wine.

good solid wine- nice nose of an odd plumb/parmegiano cheese- or is that my breath I keep smelling- anyway good fruit but not over done- just killer mid pallate of tobaco and oak- mouth drying tanins that are NOT bitter at all- would love a touch more vibrant fruit of the front end but it has nice acid and a long finish- will drink again

13.5% alcohol!! i kept reading on the boards that this wasn't such a bad wine, and when i saw it mentioned again this month in food and wine, i recalled having a bogle in the cellar, a gift to my wife from an employee. i didn't know if it was the PS, but sure enough...so we decided to give it a whirl tonight. not decanted. the color is hardly switchback ridge, and the nose is similar to a CDP blend. the tannins are quite sweet, and there is a slight confectionary profile on the finish. a bit of briary underbrush, pepper, violets, and kirsch. certainly, an interesting drink which can outdistance more of the competition than i'll bet the competition would care to admit or be confronted with. i was especially surprised by an alcohol under 14; that tells me that whoever is putting this together, they weren't going to automatically spoofilate it to gain acceptance. within the context of it's price, this is solid QPR, and delivers a pleasant experience. interesting.

Nose of wet stone, orange marmalade, acacia flower, blackberry, and oak. Palate is thin, watered down overall. Medium body, especially for a Petite Sirah. Dark berry character, short but has decent acidity on the finish. Gains weight with air.

Garnet/purple color. Attractive nose: blueberry, blackcurrant, cedar, leather, chocolate, and vanilla. Palate: rich juicy blackberry and ripe plum with accents of mocha, leather, tobacco, and a smack of peppercorn. Excellent focus with good acidity. Moderate/fine flinty tannins. Finishes a little chunky, but with solid length. Well made. Always a great value.

my first PS...decanted for 1/2 hr before the first glass, this is the 2nd glass 1+hrs in. Deep, dark ruddy purple. Smell more grape then berry, some booze. Taste is very good, rich, not sweet, very tannic, acidic, satisfying. I'm definitely impressed. Still, it's a bit rough around the edges, more noticeable on this second glass, that makes me think another year or two in the cellar would help, or a least a longer decant. Great value though for only $10.

no score, but very different than the 06. Not the crazy blueberry action that I loved. This is more earthy. Everyone enjoyed, and it is worth buying another bottle, but it is very different in comparison. I liked the '06 more.

Compared to the 2006 I was very unimpressed. Yes, I know this is a a<$10 wine, but the 2006 was amazingly good for the price and this one is just "ok". Give it a whirl as the value is still decent. I'll give it another try in 6 months or so - perhaps it needs some bottle age? I doubt it, though, the complexity is just not there...

Very good wine, and as expected for Bogle. Slightly big style, but not so much that I didn't enjoy it -- holding back a bit on the opening sweetness would make this a great wine for me. Dark color, nice nose, good savory flavor over the mid palate, a little bit of dry finish that does not last particularly long.

Liked it much better after first opening. Lost a lot of flavor after a while. 2nd. day very different, seems the flavors I liked were gone. Still not bad at all for $9.

vanilla and oak hits you on the nose, with a little medicinal component. vanilla carries a little onto the palate, with lots of fruit and a certain meaty undertone. yes, the profile is simple, but it is a very smooth, tasty wine, under $8, and for that it is a great qpr.

Solid daily drinker for $8.99. A bit heavy handed on the oak, which imparts a lot of astringent wood tannin on the pop and pour. Opens up to reveal more fruit and softened tannins with time.

I call this my "Old Reliable" wine because every bottle I open tastes great and pairs well with the meal choice, especially a nice steak or almost any beef! I just can't get enought of this wine.

Inexpensive every day value. Mild vanilla and spice on nose and attack. Good fruit, but somewhat alcoholic on finish. Still nice in this price range.

What's to say that hasn't already been said... ample ripe fruit, not unpleasant to drink at all... nothing fancy though, super simple but obviously a solid value.

violets, cherries, and fudge on the nose, good restraint on the palate, plum, spice cake, blackberry, chocolate, and dark cherries, very pleasant, doesn't try too hard to reach high complexity or enormous fruit flavors, excellently balanced, somewhat light and easy to drink, great weeknight wine, delicious with BBQ baby back ribs, great value

Cotton candy, minerals, Smokey plums, Marion berry, tobacco leaf, brown sugar. I always dig the earthy flavors in this but he cotton candy was a bit much in this vintage. But again for 9bucks it was super good with bbq'd babyback ribs.

A: Deep purple dark and dense.
N: Summer berries, cedar and some oak. Yummy
T: Tart yet sweet big fruits, mostly blue black berries.
F: Ends a bit green and woody. Almost cloying but not quite there.
Overall: Super sized wine, was not expecting this to be as tasty as it was.
V: 5/5

Cloudy, deep purple color. Sour cherries and plums, some vanilla and a bit dirty on the nose. Nice acid, OK fruit. Some subtle hints of vanilla and spice. Not as good as the 2006.

A good QPR at $10-$12 retail it went well with some bison burgers at Ted Montana's Grill. Not much on the nose, some fruit, enough tannin, minimal finish. A satisfying every day drinker if you're looking for one.
