A friend brought this to share after we finished brewing my first harvest ale on 8/25/18. It had a wonderful deep, rich bouquet of plum, blackberry, blueberry, licorice, smoked meat, toast and spice aromas. The palate was rich, ripe and layered with flavors of plum, blackberry, blueberry, licorice, toast and spice...drinking beautifully. 93+

My last bottle of 6, and it was oh so good. Enjoyed with beef tenderloin medallions sprinkled with cracked pepper and sea salt. The wine showed beautifully, with aromas of tire rubber, black pepper spice, tart plum skin, bacon grease and black cherry fruit. The palate revealed a full bodied wine with moderate alcohol (13.8%), with black cherry pie flavors mixed with plum skin and a background spice. The acidity keeps this big wine lively and fresh, while the softened yet very present tannins lend structure into the long and black-fruited finish. Drinking beautifully still, and will likely continue to do so for another 3+ years, but why wait? It is at an apogee and has nowhere to go but down. Delicious.

Taken into Campo Fina restaurant in Healdsburg. No formal TN, but the wine was quite good, dark fruit and well balanced acidity, will drink well through 2018 or so.

Probably should have decanted or opened it earlier in the day. The first pours were quite closed in the first hour or so with dinner. But several hours later, while finishing the bottle and taking our time with the wine, it really opened up. Gamey meat, pepper, olive, some dark fruit. Medium to full bodied and delicious.

Popped and poured. One sniff of the nose on this wine and I started to get excited that i'd stumbled upon one of those transcendent moments. The aromas coming off of the glass were complex and exciting with notes of bacon fat, coffee, olives, chutney and an ethereal combination of a multitude of spices. I really could have spent hours just revisiting the smell. The palate came in the "very good" category, but given the promise from the nose felt like a touch of a let down. Flavors of blackberry, fire roasted tomatoes and coriander. Smooth texture on the mouth feel with resolved tannin and balanced acidity. Finish lingered for 15-20 seconds. Let's call it a double off the wall, but was so close to leaving the yard! Would purchase again.

Luscious nose of raw meat, brambles, lavender, blackberry, classic Boushey funk. Palate is nimble with savory granite, olive tapenade, medium body. Deceptively elegent. This wine is in a great place right now.

Tasted blind at dinner party. Friends each brought a bottle to pour blind for the group. Had 5 wines through the nite. Got group vote as well as personal. This wine got group vote #1, and my personal vote #2 of the night (surprisingly, behind 2007 The Prisoner). That's why we taste them blind, though. This RA Syrah always pulls thru for me as incredible value for my wine dollars. Beautifully interwoven soil-and-fruit driven aromas give way to lush and solid mouthfeel, perfectly balanced acidity, solid mid palate, lingering finish. It's all there in spades.

Decanted for only about 30 minutes before drinking but this needs at least 2-3 hours. Is a bit disjointed right now with the alcohol dominating the palate. If I has more I would hold for at least a year.

Popped & poured, consumed over three hours. No formal tasting note today. This wine is a real joy, everyone at the table really liked it. Big and meaty, beautifully restrained fruit, layers of complexity including minerality and moist soil notes, fresh acidity, admirable balance, just all-around great effort.

PnP from cellar before dinner this evening. The wine is clear, and is deep ruby in color, with a hint of purple, showing fast dropping tears that stain the sides of the glass. On the nose, the wine is in good condition, showing developing aromas of wet soil, coffee grounds, ripe plums, brown sugar, charcoal and blackberries. On the palate, this is of course a dry wine, showing off full body and med(+) alcohol (listed 13.8% abv), with medium level, firm yet approachable tannins, ushering in med intensity flavors including deep black cherry, blackberry, charred wood flavors, a peppery spice, and espresso. The wine displays very nice balance, with ample med level acidity, giving great freshness and vibrancy to this WA Syrah. The finish is med length, and offers espresso and charcoal with the dark fruit flavors, and lasts 30+ secs. This is a high quality wine which is drinking quite well now, but will continue to develop and improve over the next 5-7 years. A brilliant, restrained Syrah showing elegance and well-bridled power. Marvelous QPR.

Washington Wine Trip; 6/15/2012-6/19/2012: One of the nicer Syrahs on the recent Washington wine trip. Not so cloying and jammy as so many are making today. More elegant, some tart black fruit, with a gorgeously long smokey, spicy finish and a super wftm.

Dark purple color with an opaque core. The nose is saturated with smokey black and blue fruits, meat and funky earth undertones. The palate is very bright with great acid showing espresso laced tart fruit, cocoa, tar and pepper. Wound up tight and youthful right now, this is complex, deliberate, powerful and yet restrained. Ending with a beautifully long finish.

Decanted 30 minutes. Great black fruit and pepper, once it opened up. Can taste the Horse Heaven Hills in this wine...so tasty! I'd give this a good couple hours to really open up. First glass we had after the 30 min decant was a bit closed, but we left if in the decanter for a couple hours while running some errands, and it really opened up nicely over that time. Drink now with 1-2 hours of air, or cellar for 2-5 years.

Day 2 in Woodinville (Woodinville, WA): Compared to the other wines being poured in their tasting room, this was in a league of its own and deserves recognition as one of the more unique Washington syrahs. The nose is driven by soil, toast, and a dense meatiness that's comparable to Northern Rhone syrah in its depth and complexity. The palate had blood, sour cherry, crushed rocks and herbs seamlessly blended together. Its mouthfeel was pretty lush and bold - so that's a bit different than many Northern Rhone syrahs, but this is such a unique wine that really made me pay attention.

Double decanted/aerated through funnel. Served at just above cellar temp. Total crowd pleaser that earned more than one "wow" from people that really like wine but aren't geeks about it. Plums, chocolate, smoke, leather, tobacco, and a back-end of grilled meat. Lengthy finish and I can still taste it today, even after two brushings, mouthwash rinse, and coffee! Didn't get as much of the oak as the other notes mention; perhaps it's integrated, or it has faded into the smoke and leather tastes. So glad I stocked up!

Slow o'd around 5 hrs. Excellent Syrah aromatics out of the gate, pairing the tell tale smoky black berry fruit with fresh cut lilacs some jerky notes and then just the faint suggestion of new oak. Very primary on the palate, with the yet to take shape fruit almost completely dominated by its Red Mountain tannic structure, fierce and very masculine. Yet, a certain elegance and focus is maintained, allowing plenty of enjoyment for current consumption. I should note, I did detect a little heat on the first few sips, but that went away after an hour in the glass. This should have a very bright future, and I couldn't help thinking that I was drinking a Betz La Cote Rousse, at 60% of the price that is.
