Over the hill, but surprisingly still pretty good on PnP and for the first 45 minutes, where it shows nice, characteristic mature CS qualities. As time marches on, though, this rapidly fades and shows its age. Drink 'em if you've got 'em.
I've had a love affair with this 2000 Justin Cab. ever since it was released. While the 2000 was quite tannic and just a little off balance when it was young the years have shown how mesmerizing the transition wine can make over the years. I drank a bottle of this every year sine I purchased it in early 2000 and the wine has continued to gotten better, although it seems to have hit its peak this year and last. The bouquet is dried roses, plums and wet bark. This Justin simply makes you come back for more and more. Drink over the next 2 years.

Drank with excellent pasta dishes at Cafe Italia in Grapevine, TX. Fruitier than most California cabernets; rasberries, blackberries on the nose. A bit hot on the palate at first, though this subsided. Still, substantial tannins and oak, rasberries on palate. A solid California cab, especially from Central Coast. A bit pricey for what you get ($25), but decent nonetheless.

plum, cola, dark fruit, wonderful balance. Ready to drink but has enough ripe fruit to hang on for a few more years. Man I wish I had bought more of this. QPR A-

Blind Night (Giuseppe's, Phoenix): Spices, violets, blackcurrants, minerals and earth. The mid palate is rather closed or short. Fruit seems faded. Has an innocuous finish. My guess was a Cabernet Sauvignon blend from the Central Coast. I'm actually pleasantly surprised that this wine is still alive. Drink up now, it is not going to get any better. Brought by Josh.

Light nose, roasted peppers, rhubarb and red fruit on the palate, medium body and finish. Similar to other notes; no flaws, just not too exciting either.

A good Paso Robles cab, with some of the expected cherry flavors, but also some bitterness to recommend it. Better than the J. Lohr from the same region, but not necessarily a great value in its price range. I might try newer better vintages if I can find a bargain.

A quaffable CS. Starts out a bit reduced, plummy and flat tasting. After about 1.5 hours, it opens up nicely. The tangy acids come out to give this wine shape. The fruit sweetens and turns more red than black. There is now an element of cassis as well. This will never blow you away, but may satisfy in the right moment.

Medium body and color with long thin legs. Mildly fruity nose of cherries and some subtle cinnamon spice. Cherries continued in the mouth but a tart, “puckering” finish, made me wish I were having this wine with a meal rather than by itself. I was reminded of cherry flavored pixie sticks. The wine did smooth out after about two hours and added some raspberries to the mix. Unfortunately, the spice that I had noticed in the beginning had disappeared.
I kept trying to get excited about the wine since I had seen a few positive TNs already posted on the board, but I could never get over the memory of that unpleasant tartness. My score -- a weak 84.
Tasted again after 48 hours vacuvined in the fridge. After the wine warmed up, it was much better than it had been two days before. No more tartness and nice fresh fruit. While still not great, it made a pleasant casual wine with dinner -- give it an 86.

($23) 4% Merlot. 70% American oak, 27% new oak - not sure which percentage includes the new. Vanilla nose. Chocolate. Soft and drinking very well now. Tannins surface some in the finish.

This entry level Justin Cab has aged well and certainly has improved with cellar aging. Shorter finish and light in mid palate.
