98 Pts Outstanding, near perfect Pinot Noir! Beautiful full red color, unsullied by aging, gorgeous nose, of subtle black cherry morphing to strawberry and sharp but appealing rhubarb, teak, old leather, with hint of rose petals, an astonishing sophisticated finish that demanded, "more!" Bravo, Calera! This wine is being underrated, I promise you!

This bottle belied the critics' drinking window--it was still going strong with transparent red without obvious browning and plenty going on in the glass. A proper pinot noir--elegant, restrained, and delicious.

Very pronounced raspberry and spicy leather on the nose. Taste is round and full, but still backed by acids to remind you this is Pinot. Clear and present from start to finish. Very good with food. Acids will be tamed by a few more years in the bottle, but you can't go wrong now.

Opened a half bottle on my birthday. Deep cherry fruit with a nice bit of earthiness to balance it out. Not incredibly complex, but delicious. This went very well with chicken breasts stuffed with feta and prosciutto.

Sweeter fruits on the nose than the de Villiers; slight plastic thing again here. On the palate, better balanced; has a slightly extracted feel but the sweetness of the fruit really makes up for it. 91+

Beautiful wine, with a stunning nose of cherries and floral qualities. Just a great expression, elegant and lovely. This is surprisingly supple right now, but I'd wait five years before popping if I had just one.

Central Coast Pinot Noir (Waterford Wines Milwaukee): ferments on the stems. nose of the sous-bois. toasted brown rice. livelier acid than the Mount Eden 06 Estate. green notes on the palate. not really so fruit driven. Red raspberry fruit comes off on the finish.

13.5% alcohol. Terrific nose that just kept gaining with air. Black cherry, loads of spice and minerals, earth, and a lingering note of blackberry. In the mouth, explosive fruit bursts across the palate, with the mineral-laden spice cutting a linear swath on your tongue. The life and verve behind this wine is terrific. Long finish. A-

Better than prune-like 1999, but not particularly elegant either.

Fairly dark red. Savory aromas. Fruit pretty well faded in this bottle. Good acidity. Medium body. Short finish.

Complex fruit and spice. Calera pinot seems to age very well.

Notes of sour cherry, cola, white pepper, herbs du provence, in a mid-bodied package. Will last longer but good now.
