The greatest 1er cru I have tasted. Without doubt, this is Grand Cru quality. I was served this blind and called Richebourg. Clear, medium ruby. Fruit and flroal aromas, especially strawberries and cherries. Medium sweet palate. Long finish. And utter delight. With air, some nuts and wood. Layered and complex. Balanced. Ready but should still improve. Shared by SW

Dinner at Scaramouch. Does it get better for 1er Cru? If it does I have not had it. Perfectly balanced dark fruit, almost floral and earthy at the same time. Seamless palate with long finish. Time to drink up.
Acker 2019/06 (Hong Kong): 01654/21055. Very DRC style, floral, earthy and almost herbal. Vintage weight is quite good. Consistent palate with a yoghurt finish. 93

1999 DRC Horizontal. No need to look down on this poor stepchild of the lineup as it showed better than Echezeaux in my view. Cherries and flowers on a cool aromatic riff. Really pure, if slightly light. (6723/21055)

NDG: 9/1/19 dinner with Magnums of 9 to celebrate the start of 2019 (Imperial Treasure Teochew, Ion): Enjoyable. Quite a bit better than the last time I had it actually. The nose had a lifted melange of red cherries, fragrant spice, a dash of herb, a bit of mint, all drifting out of the glass in a pretty bouquet. The palate still felt a touch thinner than either the 1999 Meo NSG Murgers or the Clos des Lambrays on the same flight, but it was delicious in its own right, with fresh, round flavours of red cherries, wild berries, and then spice, earth and just a chew of fine tannins moving into a long finish. Really nice. It does not pretend to be a Grand Cru, but it was really a solid, delicious drink.

It's always fun to be drinking DRC, and this bottle was no exception. For those that subscribe to Vinous, Neal Martin's 2018 note is an exact description of this bottle. An intriguing nose, soft and sexy on the palate, and a non-Vosne spice note.

Giving very nice Vosne spice and oak on the nose, however not so energetic on the palate. As were drinking La Tache, RSV, and Roumier Bonne Mares in the next glasses, this just couldn't run with the others.

2 oz pour. No decant. I felt this was shut down and didn't show as well it was is brooding in there. Lots of tightly wound earthy blue fruits infused with a touch of smoky all spice. Tannic. Structured. I wish i could have sit with this for 2 hours. But was very glad to try this.

1996 & 1999 Vosne Grand Cru Dinner (Holland Park): Served blind, this stood out as the DRC from miles away with its stemmy character on the nose, with stalky aromas of wilting flowers, sour cherries and hints of rubber, toast and earth. For some reason, the bouquet here reminded me tremendously of Nicolas Potel RSV bottlings from the early 2000s, which are rumoured to have been sourced from declassified DRC barrels. The palate was very pleasant. Fresh and lively, with chewy acidity and tannins forming a nice backdrop to sweet red-fruited cherries and berries, and then a little floral hint at the finish. A bit on the thinner side compared to the other wines on its flight – clearly the 1er Cru amidst the Grand Crus – but this had a decent enough depth to it was well. Probably close to its peak drinking window, this was a pretty nice wine without quite knocking anyone’s socks off – not something I would run out to buy at its price I don’t think.

Great Wine Dinner with Friends (goosefoot - Chicago IL): Very enticing baking spice to start with red cherry aromas in a manner I considered fun and forward. A fantastic wine to sit down and follow over a few hours with dinner. At first it's about very rich, intensely ripe red berried fruit tinged with floral and stemmy notes, and a tinge of oak. With more air the fruit takes a step back, and more exotic sweeter and spicier notes develop, while it becomes more silky and polished on the palate. I'm surprised by the degree of extract and power on the palate here, but it still shows a lot of grace and finesse, with a very long, expansive finish.

HDH Auction Notes (Tru - Chicago, IL): A lot to like here, but, hey...it's a 1999! The fruit was REALLY firm. The palate was lithe, but not showing all that much. After some time in the decanter, the fruits began to flesh out a bit more a showed some gorgeous red fruit and floral notes. Yum.

Very Fine, but I struggle to see that the new found price tag of $400-500/bt makes any sense here. Just lacks the precision and drive that you hope for at that price point. I couldn't find much of the classic DRC notes I look for in bottling like La Tache (wild strawberries, etc). I'd suggest Rousseau's CSJ or Mugnier's Amoureuses are probably a better bet if you want a 'luxe' 1er from a great maker. The occasion however was lovely: the now mrs ubercuvee said "yes"....

Amazingly profound nose: dark berry fruit, a touch of leather, musky floral and shrooms. My first impression was that there was a touch to much oak, but with air this changed considerably and the palate proved as complex, with focused dark fruit and hints of funk and floral all supported by bright acidity. This wine could go longer but why wait?

Burgundy Masterclass with Robert Joseph (AWC Wine Academy, Marylebone): Served blind (we knew it was from DRC) we were invited to guess the decade. I thought the 2000s for this was youthful looking and vigorous. Then the vintage, 95, 97, 99. Leafy, so surely the 97? Even knowing it was 99 I found it hard to detect the richness I'd expect. And then was it GE, La T, E, or V 1er Cru. This time I was right. Now this is a very nice Vosne, quite exotic and spicy, but not special.

Pretty dark red in color, nose of dark red fruit, licorice, quite spicy and a bit minty. Palate is quite full in fact borderline over extracted, very ripe and quite raisiny. Slightly burly and lacking in transparency.mGood pinot but not a great wine especially for the fantastic DRC 99 lineup, certainly not worth the current market price. If have more bottles of this will certainly hold on to the, for a few years more to revisit.

Deep garnet colour (restaurant was a little dark so hard to be more precise). Nose showed floral elements, little baking spice and minerals, some red fruit though it was fairly muted. Palate was somehow ethereal but expansive like great burgundies are with plenty of fresh, bright cherry, minerals, some baking spice and a little bit of earth. Well structured though the tannins are all resolved, definitely in its prime drinking window but still has the power to stick around for some time. Good well, balanced acidity and long finish that really encouraged you to savour each sip. The only disappointment was when the bottle was finished!
Ate along side grilled Tunisian octopus appetizer and mushroom ravioli in brown butter main.

A brooding, deep wine that needed considerable time to coax something out of it. When it came out of the shell, it was quite excellent. A highly structured wine with many layers, intense fruit, but still tightly wound. Give this wine at least a few more years to soften up.

Served vs. a 1999 Rousseau 'Clos St. Jacques' at Craft. I assume we were just too early with this bottle. It's just not hitting the heights right now. More earthy than the Rousseau, absolutely more closed. There's power and substance here. A couple of friends who are not regular burgundy drinkers really liked this, as, again, it was earthy and (in their words) 'strong'. I think they liked that there was some tannin. Anyway, store these away for another 5 years...

The Petrus Excuse (Eleven Madison Park): Served with Organic Poularde with Cherry Lane Farm Asparagus and Black Truffles. New World nose of confectionary cherry, but a completely different creature to taste. The raspberry fruit is still very primary but mellow and supple in mouthfeel. Remains very fruit-forward and is a beautiful "pinot noir" wine but much less of a "Vosne-Romanee."

Soft nose, very closed and muted with some earth and dark cherries. Slight spiciness, good fruit, a bit tough tannins, but very flat and monochromatic. Good finish, but streaks of citrus. Very little revealed here, but certainly balanced and nothing bad that needs integrating. Closed, I would say.

Initially very pretty notes of sweet black cherry, nutmeg/allspice, and mushroom on the nose. Quite young and hard on the palate but hugely structured with less stem tannins than DRC sometimes has. Excellent persistence on the palate.
Fills out well with time, gaining a sappy, silkiness, especially on the nose. Lots of potential here. ****-/5

Gorgeous perfumed nose of ripe cherries, cinnamon, flowers and gentle spices- palate large scaled big cherry, bitter chocolate, cassis, some green tobacco, very dense and fleshy mouthfeel. This was very impressive with a great backbone of acidity and ripe tannins, and the finish was very long. For my taste, ready to go.
