Big masculine nose of dark fruit, coffee, cassis, more open than I expected. Dark purple, full-bodied, dense, mildly tannic, flavors were slow to open but were deep and very long on the finish. This was earthy, blackberry, anise, some pipe tobacco. This is a gorgeous wine. I decanted it for an hour and drank it over the following hour. It would have benefited from 2 more hours of air, and I'll wait a few more years before trying another.
