Great clean color for its age. Lots of acidity and early scent of oxidation. That burned off and we were left tasting a great classic wine. Wonderful and developed over the entire evening. Great wines only come in great btls and th S was a great representation.

Gold color. Very fat and creamy. Apple, Butter, honey, and cake on the nose. The palate started to get sweeter with more time in the glass due to the ripeness. The wine had quite a bit of weight and intensity. I liked it.

One of many bottles consumed at a 60th birthday celebration. This was superb with excellent minerality and balance as well as the higher acidity I associate with Vine Hill as compared to Kistler's other bottlings. Cellared since release; drinking beautifully at age 11.

Part of a gift from a charity auction, making it possible to try several vintages of different sites this year. Light gold color. Aromas of green apple, lemon, clove and vanilla. Has some mint, minerals and wet stone on the palate and manages a little raciness. Perhaps a little too oaky for me but well balanced by fruit. Nice long finish. This comes across as refined for a big Chardonnay and is drinking very well at a decade.

Nine years old and going strong. I brought this bottle for wackage just to see if I should dump or keep my four other bottles. Really didn't expect it to be such a wonderful bottle. A beautiful clear semi-dark straw. A minuscule bit of funk on the nose but not noticable at all in the mouth. Huge in the mouth with caramel, orange peel and dark spices. I couldn't detect any oak at all. Everyone loved it. A perfect pairing for roasted brussel sprouts, octopus and those wonderful potatos that they have at Evvia.

Color greenish yellow and a bit cloudy. Very ripe exotic nose. Equally ripe in the mouth but there was still enough acidity keep everything in balance. Drinking very well now for a buttery, ripe Californian char. Maybe it will hold a few more years but I don't see too much upside in waiting.

This was one of two whites that was drunk at a wine dinner. Most of the people were wine novices and actually preferred a 2007 chardonnay that was one-third the cost. Overall, I liked the wine but probably won't be buying any more. This was my third experience with Kistler this year, and the previous two bottles were madeirized. This wine was thankfully not defective, but it does make me wonder on its ageability. It showed a deeper shade of yellow that suggests some age. Nose was of fresh cut pineapple and buttered popcorn. Pineapple, honey, oakey flavors on the palate. Medium- to full-bodied wine.

Opened and served immediately. Yellow color in the glass, clear hue throughout. Nose of creme, nutmeg, parrafin and a mix of yellow fruits. Flavors of pears, apples, creme and a bit of orange on the lingering palate. Medium acidity, medium to full body. Drink over the shorter to maybe medium term. My last bottle.

Very nice golden straw color. Nose of caramel popcorn, butter & lemongrass. Pallet of butterscotch, limestone. Quite a firm acidic backbone, but it needs it to offset the other components. Definitely a "big" chard, with lots of mouth pucker / tannic. Almost has a mouthfeel of a young CA Cab with lots of tannin. Needs some food to smooth it out, but a very interesting and fun wine to drink.

This Kistler was drinking like a youngster. The palate was full of fresh, vibrant citrus and hints of green fruit flavors. Full body mouth feel without any heaviness was accompanied with a touch of classic Kistler oiliness. The wine had amazing acidity and paired great with salad. Too easy to drink and it went very fast.

SLightly ethereal, slightly penetrating nose. Explosive mouth of rich orange fruit and honey structure structure structure. Seems like less citrus than I remember. Beautiful golden straw color. Nose of lemongrass, caramel popcorn, butter and honey, subtley sweet Pallet - Wow! Wonderful flavors of lemongrass, meadow, caramel, vanilla, butterscotch, limestone, mineral, and stone. It’s very lemony and the caramel popcorn, honey and butter flavors on the nose come through on the palette. It’s a little bit too acidic without food – tangy on the palette, makes you pucker! Like lemon sour. Very long palette. This is a beautiful wine that is drinking perfectly now but can last for a bit still, given the level of acidity of the wine. Probably best to drink in the next two years.

Shows more voice and more grip than either the 2001 Hudson or the 2001 Kistler. Very nice mouth of very slightly tart citrus, orange and white fruit, and nuts, with very nice balance even as the wine is so full. Flamboyant nose of citrus and chalky orange fruit. Most excellent length of slightly bitter, lingering, orange fruit and citrus rind. Not at all subtle, but still quite excellent.

Tasted at University Club wine tasting along with other BIG wines and it more than held its own. 1997 grand cru chablis was dwarfed by this monster. Nose screams citrus blossums. Still huge fruit - grapefruit, apricot, honeysuckle - up front, balanced by a caramel butterscotch finish. Drinking fabulously now, but could still cellar for some time.

This is one best Kistler pinots I've consumed in some time. Tasted blind this wine was picked as a Burgundy by several tasters. This wine seems to be at it's prime now and I will consume my last bottle over the next year. The wood is not completely intergrated showing the benefit of ageing Kistler chards. Love it.

Drinking fabulously right now. My first tasting of the 2001 Vine Hill, and it sure didn’t disappoint. Distinct lemon zest and citrus from the start. This wine was hitting on all cylinders from cork pull and continued for hours. Nice acidity and a fat rounded profile in the mouth. Unlike many other Kistler’s that I’ve had, I didn’t see it continue to improve much after an hour or two. I’ve had great luck with cellaring these wines over the long term and will try another bottle in a year or so, still, it’s a great chard right now.

My 4th or 5th bottle over the last year or so. A really nice Kistler. Some nice lemon and butterscotch. I'd drink over the next year or two as these bottles don't seem to hold long-term. I just haven't had the same luck trying to give the Kister chards more than 4-5 years, while the Peter Michael chards seem to hold longer. All my remaining bottles will vanish, this summer.

After many, many Kistler bottles over the years, I finally had one that really bowled me over! All of their wines are extremely well-crafted but I'd never had a Chard from them that knocked me over the way a Marcassin, Peter Michael or Kongsgaard does. This was outstanding...beautiful gold color, really complex nose that kept shifting, and a distinct butterscotch/caramel element that really impressed me. Long, well-balanced finish. Outstanding.

Outstanding bottle of wine. I've had a few Kistler Chards over the years, and this one did not leave me disappointed. It was very hard to keep from drinking this stuff so I could see it evolve over time. Pineapples, dough, some butterscotch and later some baked bread. Finely balanced and an excellent finish. I love this wine and I am thankful I still have one left. 94 pts.

Aged color and nose but with nice brown spices and ripe pineapple notes. Quite creamy with good flavors of brown spices with a slightly madeirized edge. Very good with linguini with white clam sauce. Drink now as this is almost over the hill.

Bobby and I agree on this wine. I would say it is approaching a peak today and will drink well for another one to three years.

was concerned this warmer vintage would be closer to the end and potentially lack acidity...wrong on both accounts. Wine is evolving into an excellent wine with great acidity, complexity. Believe it will still improve and look forward to next couple over the coming years

Love it.

Light gold in color. Out of the bottle this was quite disjointed. With ten minutes of air, much better. Great white fruit and light vanillla oak nose. Medium weight palate and balanced palate. Quite nice.

Wonderful nose of citrus, minerals, and wet stones. Full bodied on the palate, with a 45 second finish. This wine is really hitting its stride right now.

A very nice wine. A nose with some funk and feet quickly blew off to reveal some great tropical fruits and faint flowers along with some delicious breadiness. We drank this way too fast, but I saved a final sip for as long as I could and it was still improving. 92pts

powerhouse chardonnay, another citrus laden with apricot fruit bomb that Kistler is famous for. Not fading yet but hard to imagine it getting any better.

Fantastic bottle. Mineral, citrus, full bodied feel. Almost as good as the 99 at its peak!

94 pts.

Citrus, lemon oil with a nutty characteristic to it, butterscotch on the finish. Smooth all the way through, very balanced, great finish.
