This may have renewed my interested in Rhone varieties. After Les Grand Bois a few weeks ago, I thought the love may be gone. This had wonderful bright fruits. Lavender for days. Just a hint of creaminess. Tobacco. Dusty cocoa. Full bodied but balanced. Wish I had more.

Very toasty peppery nose with some dark berry. Lively acidity on the palate, stays quite fresh, with toast and vanilla, and mocha. Some heat on the back end, spicy with mocha, earth, and creamy blackberry flavors. not as impressive as it was at the winery. "Roasted charcoal" character I was so fascinated with in my last note is simply toast today. Good, not great. Still, Novy might make the best sub $30 Syrah out there.

A little funk to start things off on the nose. Loads of black fruits, chocolate, tobacco, oak and a meatiness on the nose. Very complex nose. Full bodied. Retained some fresh acidity. Some smoke. Fresh berries. A tiny little hint of herbs.

Trip to Napa/Sonoma; 11/7/2009-11/14/2009 (Napa/Sonoma): Mocha earthy nose. Currants and plum on the palate with a fantastic roasted charcoal character. Lengthy finish of blue fruits. Fine tannins. Very impressive.

From the Dry Creek Valley. Floral. Herbs and spice. A little tomatoe on the finish. Really nice.
